I worked at ETNBH for almost 2 years. Over that period of time, I watched the hospital grow. But growth doesn’t always mean improvement. The turnover is incredibly high, which often led to units being short-staffed, affecting the quality of care given to the patients. It seemed that pushing meds was the top priority, instead of developing an after-care plan with follow up. At times, when there weren’t enough beds available, a patient experiencing suicidal thoughts would be placed in a room with a patient in psychosis who was hearing voices or possibly hallucinating. Completely terrifying them, & defeating the purpose of their stay. The adolescent unit is typically complete chaos. There are never enough staff to properly supervise what goes on, & if the kids don’t end up hurting each other, they’re swapping Snapchat information so they can be friends after they are discharged. When it comes to the geriatric unit, it is so disorienting, the patients only seem to get worse. You can’t see out of windows on the units, & they never get to go outside due to constantly being short staffed. I know ETNBH has a mission to help people, but it’s definitely not working.

I have a parent in their care currently. The staff are unable to answer any questions and just give you the run around. Every question I've had, they have been unable to answer. Simple things like a diagnosis, a care plan, possibility of release or timing there of. Things that we need an answer about. Apparently there isn't a single person there that knows anything about the patients, their mental health concerns, or what is going to happen when they are released. Or if there is, they refuse to answer the phone or return phone calls. I have never seen a more poorly run facility with more useless and incompetent staff. The lack of communication is unprofessional and dangerous to their patients and their families. I intend to report them to the Tennessee Health Facilities Commission and the Tennessee Department of Health, and I suggest anyone else who has been unlucky enough to have a loved one placed there do so as well.

This hospital was the worst mental health treatment I've ever gotten. Every single bad review is accurate. The staff is truly, truly awful. We have little to no groups and no 1 on 1 counseling, there's also no schedule other than the meal times. Children have meltdowns in front of staff and they sit and watch. We beg and beg for our needs to be met but the the staff DOES NOT LISTEN. There is no compassion in this facility from staff. It also took them days to get my belongings, and I ended up leaving this facility without shoes, my Birkenstocks because they were given to another patent! Don't even bring your child any belongings because they will be lost or not given to them. If your child needs real treatment, I HIGHLY do NOT recommend this horrible place.

Accepted Insurance

East Tennessee Behavioral Health & Addiction Treatment works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehabs are designed principally for clients who require intensive supervision and support, including clients who have just completed detox, clients in early recovery, and clients at an elevated risk of relapse. Inpatient treatment helps clients stabilize following detox and prepares them to step-down into outpatient and/or community-based care. Clients reside at the facility for the duration of their program and engage in extensive addiction counseling and education. Many programs also offer evidence-based complementary therapies.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients in intensive outpatient programs (IOP) receive robust, personalized care to support their reintegration into their community. Clients stepping down from inpatient treatment frequently enroll in IOP before entering standard outpatient care or community-based recovery programs, such as AA. Intensive outpatient treatment generally involves between nine and 20 therapeutic hours weekly, with the frequency and duration of sessions decreasing as clients stabilize. IOP services commonly include counseling, recovery education, holistic therapies, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive outpatient option for those with moderate to severe addictions, allowing you to return home at the end of the day. It can be an alternative to hospitalization or used as a step-down option. PHP treatment requires a minimum of 20 hours of treatment per week for an average of 90 days. Depending on your needs, PHP treatment includes relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy services. PHP treatment is often covered by providers.

Treatments

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a treatable condition characterized by uncontrolled consumption of alcohol which continues despite negative consequences. Treatment options for alcohol addiction include inpatient or outpatient alcohol rehab in Tennessee. Therapeutic methods include group and individual therapy, medication, and holistic therapies. Aftercare is often provided through 12-step support groups, which offer ongoing accountability and encouragement.

When your day-to-day life is taken over by drug use, this is known as substance use disorder. If you abruptly stop using your drug of choice, you experience withdrawal symptoms. To overcome this cycle, professional drug rehab in Tennessee is usually needed.

mental-health iconMental Health And Substance Abuse
opium iconOpioid Addiction

Substance abuse treatment in Tennessee is available in addiction treatment centers, where experienced addiction professionals can treat both substance use disorders. Typically, clinicians use a range of evidence-based therapies such as a biopsychosocial assessment, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing to get a complete picture of your mental health, support systems, and motivation to change. Through an individualized treatment plan, you'll receive the support you need to achieve long-term sobriety through new skills and relapse prevention strategies.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Clinical Services

Men and women in Tennessee undergoing one on one individual therapy sessions focus on understanding their unique needs and challenges. They do this under the guidance of an experienced therapist who can help you identify and address addiction triggers as well as create personalized relapse prevention plans. This offers you a customized path to a successful recovery journey.

In Tennessee, group therapy sessions for drug and alcohol addiction typically involve skill development to help you learn communication techniques and relapse prevention strategies. These strategies support your transition into the community and help you maintain long term sobriety.

Family therapy uses a structured environment to address the complexities of addiction and the negative influences it has on the family unit. Therapists work with family members to develop effective coping and communication strategies that support their loved one's recovery while also focusing on the health and well being of each family member.

All negative reviews are true and correct ✅ Positive reviews are from employees, or friends of the “corporate” team. 💥 4/24/25💥 NY POST - “Leaders Mental Health Giant Promised Big Bonuses to Deal With Federal Investigations” Acadia Healthcare’s CEO was awarded 1.8million bonus to respond to “unprecedented governmental inquiries” into allegations of holding psychiatric patients against their will. 🎯

One of the worst experiences of my life has been dealing with everyone associated with this hospital. It is already hard in making the decision to admit your child but there is a reason this hospital is rated so low. I wasn't going to leave a review but after finding out my last bill was sent to collections after just receiving it two days ago needless to say I am a little upset. Every bill has been paid. Even when they put an emergency contact as the recipient of those bills and I called to update that mistake .By the way I am pretty sure that is a HIPPA violation. My daughter's belongings were given to another child. She had no shoes when I picked her up. My daughter was threatened by other girls and did not feel safe. The medications they gave her only made things worse. Her anxiety was worse while being in this facility. I know when things get bad and your child recognizes that they are not safe from themselves and a safe place is needed to handle this. Just do not let this be the place you choose. Keep going down the list in your search. Believe me I wish I had

This place was an awful experience I was denied treatment for nicotine withdrawal bc "it cannot be given to a person under 18" which is untrue. If I knew how to contact a patient advocate I would and I'm still trying to figure out how 0 Stars if I could

as a patient that was there 3 times, I’m very disappointed in the staff and communication of this facility, they treat the kids like prisoners, they falsely accuse patients of stuff they didn’t do, they lie, they manipulate, and as someone that has been there the lunch lady would cut me short food because she didn’t like me, and she would constantly be snarky and mean towards me and say I have to use “manners” even tho I was the only one using manners out of my group, lisa, the manager or whatever don’t know what her position is she doesn’t even work for the hospital, would call me names like a manipulator which I was already in distress and I was yelling and after I asked her about it she would continue to say she never called me that, yet I got info from my parents that she said I was manupilative, yes she never said I was manipulator to them but she did to my face then continued to say she didn’t and lie to me, this place is supposed to help kids yet they decide to be diliberately mean and name calling towards their patients their supposed to be getting treatment and care from the people that worked hard to get to the place they are, for it to seem like they given up on the job when they were accepted and working their, most of the techs were nice except for a few..some of the staff (female) were nicer to boys then they were to girls, would never come back again unless I needed serious help. Also they would punish the mass except for the few, once there was this girl that had a problem and people, everybody was making fun of them, they got mad at just me and another kid for it, yes I shouldn’t have made fun of them, but getting mad at just us was crazy. please never admit your kids here unless you want them to get worse, also they throw medicine at every situation cause they can’t do their jobs.

Extremely disappointed. I called to find out about the eating disorder treatment program advertised on the website only to be told that they offer no such treatment at all.

Entering an acute psychiatric hospital indicates that you or your loved one has tried everything else- exhausted all other options. As clients, we trust these agencies to provide care, apply their clinical expertise, and ensure there is proper support when the patient leaves. After two hospitalizations in 30 days, my loved one was discharged with two appointments: one was an intake with his therapist (who had just discharged him because she recommended IOP) and I was told the other was for IOP. After I made some calls (5), I found out that there was no IOP, no therapy, and no medication management. Worse, he is less stable than he was when he was admitted. Shortage of staff, hence incomplete aftercare, etc, is a real thing, but leaving families feeling alone, desperate, and unable to navigate this system is not an option. IF people know where to go for help, door after door is slammed and their kids or loved ones are denied by agencies for various reasons. The hopelessness continues. Acute psychiatric is the tip of the iceberg. After two attempts to die by suicide, my kid was discharged without professional support. Inexcusable and dangerous. Unfortunately, it feels like my kid was part of a revolving door and as long as a walk in appointment was printed on his discharge paper as a formality, ETBH's job was done.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Reading this is troubling, and we are grateful you brought it to our attention. Our goal is to be a place where compassionate care is delivered in an environment that promotes lasting healing, and it is important that we gather more information. Please reach out to us directly by emailing FeedBack@ETNBH.com.
