About Enlightened Recovery Michigan

Enlightened Recovery is an addiction and mental health treatment network. The organization has four locations, including a facility in Kalamazoo, Michigan. You can access medically supervised detox, residential rehab and alumni programs for adults. They accept insurance from most providers and offer self pay options.

Integrating Sustainable Living Into Recovery

One of the unique aspects I noticed about them was their emphasis on sustainable living practices. They reuse and repurpose as much as possible. What they can’t reuse, they recycle.

You can enjoy a community garden and share fresh vegetables and fruits. They compost grass clippings, recycled paper and leaves to use in the garden. You’ll learn how to plant a garden and adopt healthier eating habits that enhance your journey.

Embracing Diverse Identities

I love that they embrace those with diverse identities and are LGBTQIA friendly. Enlightened Recovery provides inclusive and culturally competent care. You can enjoy a gender affirming environment where all interactions are empathetic and respectful.

Clients have reported feeling genuinely cared for and supported by the staff here. Their compassionate team respects your identity by using affirming documentation and language. You’ll be in a safe space where you don’t need to worry about re-traumatization or shame.

Assisting First Responders

I also think it’s wonderful that they offer a targeted track for first responders. Police, firefighters, paramedics and other first responders face challenging conditions every day. From unpredictable schedules to traumatic events, first responders can experience depression, anxiety and chronic stress that leads to substance use.

You can access empathetic, holistic care that caters to the culture and common experiences of people in these positions. Like all clients in their care, you’ll be in a comfortable environment with warm and inviting therapy spaces.

If I could give it less than one I definitely would. My husband needed help and finally agreed to go. He was doing great did all the classes everyday which they’re the same classes on repeat. It says private rooms absolutely not. They moved him to residential which he begged them to stay in detox where he was thriving. He was open that he needed mental health support and they as they said dropped the ball. I had contacted Peyton his therapist on Friday which he returned my call on Monday he was on vacation I believe. I addressed to him that my husband wasn’t sleeping. He said he’d address it. Never talked to him on Monday. He couldn’t sleep and repeatedly told anyone who would listen he can’t sleep. Didn’t sleep for maybe 5 days. He left worse than he was before he went in. He literally left in the middle of the night. Walking 20 miles til he got an uber. By the grace of God nothing happened to him which they just said they dropped the ball. It’s a human being wanting help and willing to do the work. Peyton when he finally returned my call on Monday I stressed to him that he’s not sleeping and wants to leave just to sleep. Peyton reassured me all hands on deck when these things happen. That’s the furthest thing from the truth. He suggested I go to outpatient therapy. When would I have time to do that when I’m working full time 2 jobs so my husband could get help. That was baffling. They have a support zoom which is once a week for one hour for the family members and the therapist is in New Jersey. He wasn’t ordered by the court to go he went in willing to get help and now he’s so jaded from the experience he’s isolated himself ever since he left. I can’t even describe how I’m feeling. The pain this has caused my family is beyond measure. If your not court ordered to go there please don’t.

Accepted Insurance

Enlightened Recovery Michigan works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Clients in inpatient rehab reside at the treatment facility while engaging in intensive daily treatment. Inpatient care is primarily designed for clients leaving detox, those in early recovery, and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Clients participate in intensive addiction counseling, which may include group and family therapy as well as one-on-one sessions. Recovery-focused life skills training is also often prioritized. Many inpatient rehabs offer evidence-based complementary therapies, such as yoga, meditation, art therapy, and animal therapy.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients receiving care in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) typically have completed inpatient treatment, but some choose to enroll in IOP immediately following detox. Intensive outpatient rehabs offer high-level support for clients in early recovery and those at an increased risk of relapse. Most programs provide between nine and 20 hours of treatment per week, with services ranging from addiction counseling to recovery education to medication assisted treatment (MAT). Holistic therapies, such as acupuncture, are common.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

During a medically supervised detox, addictive substances are removed from your body while under the 24/7 supervision of medical professionals in an inpatient environment. This is the safest way to wean your body off of addictive substances, since quitting alcohol or certain drugs (like opioids or benzodiazepines) can be dangerous if done on your own. The program typically lasts around 5-7 days, but is highly individualized depending on your needs.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Clients receiving care at an outpatient rehab remain in their own homes and attend treatment as often as daily, depending on the level of need. Outpatient care generally consists of psychotherapy, addiction education, life skills training, and community reintegration support. Many outpatient treatment centers provide step-down care, including partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), sober living, and standard outpatient services. Some outpatient rehabs also offer ambulatory medical detox and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

While many people know it as "day treatment", a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers treatment during the day and allows you to live at home. PHP treatment typically requires a commitment of at least 20 hours of treatment every week, with a program duration that spans approximately 90 days. While commuting is necessary, some programs offer telehealth options. PHP treatment plans usually include relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy.

Treatments

Alcoholism is characterized by the excessive or compulsive use of alcohol, which does not stop despite negative consequences. This compulsive use leads to psychological and physical dependence. To break this dependence, alcohol rehab in Michigan is necessary. Treatment is available from a range of services, including residential programs, outpatient treatment, AA, medical detox, and evidence-based counseling. Support systems are also a crucial part of long-term recovery.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Michigan's dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs provide specialized treatment for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Levels of care include outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization options. Using a combination of evidence-based therapies, trauma-informed care, group therapy, and psychoeducation, clinicians can help you address the underlying cause of your addiction, treat both disorders, and promote overall mental health and well-being. You'll also develop a support network and enhance your coping skills.

Inpatient addiction treatment includes mental health services designed to help you succeed in recovery or avoid relapse. Standard treatments include individual and group therapy sessions, relapse prevention education, and coping skills training. One of the main goals of therapy in rehab is to help you improve your mental health, eliminate patterns of unhealthy thinking that tend to drive or support self-destructive behaviors, and replace unhealthy patterns with healthy and rational thought patterns.

mental-health iconMental Health And Substance Abuse
opium iconOpioid Addiction

In Michigan, specialized substance abuse treatment programs are available for individuals struggling with drug and alcohol use. These programs utilize evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing. Treatment options usually include outpatient, inpatient, and residential programs, offering individuals a comprehensive approach to recovery. Through a combination of therapy, counseling, and support, treatment can help individuals regain control of their lives and achieve long-term sobriety.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
postpartum-program thumbnail image

Postpartum Program

The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Michigan helps participants view challenges more clearly so they can respond to them in healthy ways. During a limited number of structured sessions, clients learn about and practice these changes to effectively address substance use and mental health disorders.

Addiction often involves intense situations and emotions. Dialectical behavior therapy helps you understand and regulate your emotions and better manage the situations that evoke those feelings. You'll receive mindfulness training and stress management training to cope more effectively with difficult emotions.

Group therapy sessions in Michigan allow you to share responsibility with your peers in a group setting. This fosters a collective commitment to achieve sobriety and learn coping skills that are essential to improving your relationships and reducing your stress levels.

Personalized therapy sessions for drug addiction emphasize understanding your background and behavioral triggers for substance use. Your therapist will collaborate with you to create an effective coping strategy and address underlying issues that clear the way for lasting change.

Substance abuse negatively affects your nutrition. Some drugs affect your metabolism, while others affect how your body absorbs nutrients. Others suppress your appetite. To restore balance to your systems, nutrition therapy provides a healthy meal plan and training for how to eat the right foods to support addiction recovery.

During trauma therapy in Michigan, you are guided through traumatic memories within a safe and supportive environment. Your therapist then provides you with tools to process traumatic events and reduce the symptoms that occur when you're exposed to a trigger. This improves your overall mental health and ability to function in the community.

My experience at Enlighten Recovery was truly life-changing. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel supported and capable—they helped me believe that I could do this. With their guidance, I was able to confront deep traumas and fears, and begin the difficult but rewarding process of healing. The techs were incredible—compassionate, attentive, and always treated me like a human being, not just a client. That meant everything. The food was both healthy and delicious, which made a big difference in how I felt physically and emotionally. I even lost 17 pounds during my time here, thanks to regular workouts and a focus on centering myself. Enlighten Recovery gave me the tools, support, and environment I needed to truly start healing. I’m walking away stronger, lighter, and more hopeful than I’ve felt in a long time.

Response from the owner
LaDonna, your story of strength and transformation truly moves us. We're honored to have supported you in this chapter of healing. Whether someone is seeking alcohol detox in Pompano Beach or full recovery in Kalamazoo, hope is real—and possible. Thank you for inspiring others.

I was able to safely detox at this facility. It was clean and surprisingly comfortable. The staff (throughout the building) are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Leah with her calm demeanor and kind eyes showed compassion without pity. She REALLY let me know that I was safe without even saying the words. Shelby. I will ALWAYS remember Shelby. Meet her for yourself. Her kindness, love and humor will remind you WHY you are there. Sam..what an amazing individual! She is going to do great things and I cant wait to see what she sets out to accomplish. Noah. They don't deserve Noah. He breaks his back making sure everyone has what they need. Infact, all the techs do! This facility and staff are top notch. Dear corporate of enlightened recovery...communication is lack luster. I left AMA due to basic human desire. An establishment that provides the service of wellness is not supporting their employees of the same service. Continous short staffing leaves them often without meals and/or breaks. Their shifts are long and I imagine emotionally taxing. Demostrate the behaviors you want your clients to have. Wellness. For those I met there, I love you all and will think of you often. I will be cheering you on (thanks Sam). I'm celebrating another day of being sober.

Response from the owner
Julie, your words beautifully capture the heart of Enlightened Recovery. We’re honored to have been a safe space during detox. Thank you for recognizing the staff’s dedication—your insight means a lot.

I have been to 4 different treatment facilities and Enlightened Recovery was the best recovery experience I ever had. They focus on a more wholistic approach to recovery. With groups like TaiChi, Yoga, Reiki, and Yaloms group, I was introduced to a variety of different types of therapy. The facility is equipped with a gym and courtyard where you can lift weights and play basketball. The meals were amazing. I was served shrimp, salmon, chicken, steak and ribs with as many servings as you need to feel fulfilled. They even provided wholesome snacks in between! A full medical staff was provided which included therapist, psychiatrist, medical doctor, and nurses. Being able to use my phone to navigate the outside world was a big help. And last but not least the frequent smoke breaks really helped with transitioning from active addiction to recovery. Fun activities like Karaoke and games like Pictionary and 2 truths and a lie are integrated into the schedule to keep things from getting monotonous. The program is very relaxed. Of course you are encouraged to go to every group but only required to go to 2. The program offers structure while allowing you to create a program that works for you personally. They even help with transitioning back into the world when you leave. I genuinely enjoyed my experience at Enlightened Recovery and encourage anyone in need of help and considering going to treatment...to choose Enlightened Recovery.

Response from the owner
Yvonne, thank you for sharing such a powerful reflection on your recovery journey. We’re so glad our holistic recovery approach and structured freedom helped you heal. Stay strong—you inspire others!

Enlightened Recovery Michigan is a breath of fresh air in the state of Michigan. There are not many options for detox & residential treatment facilities which are beautiful, safe & well-staffed by world-class healthcare professionals. Thankfully, Enlightened Recovery works with most private insurance companies as well as Medicaid which allows maximum access to treatment for Michigan residents. The staff, food, facilities, clinical program and schedule left me feeling well cared for & supported from start to finish. Very impressed with this new & growing facility and how they are inevitably going to be one of the go-to treatment centers in the Midwest.

Response from the owner
Bill, your feedback is a breath of fresh air! We’re proud to provide accessible detox and residential treatment in Michigan with top-tier care. Your words truly affirm our mission—thank you.

Facilities and some staff, fantastic. The day to day techs are amazing. The nurses do a great job. However, the lack of communication is unacceptable. I was there for 5 days and only saw the doctor and counselor on the last day because I was leaving. After day three of realizing this treatment was not for me, I asked to leave. Two days later when I needed to leave for a medical reason, they gave me a very hard time about obtaining my belongings before I left. I understand it is their job to do what they can to keep people from relapsing, after explaining to multiple people that this method doesn’t work for me they still gave me a very hard time about leaving. With the lack of counsel or evaluation after 5 days made me question what they viewed as important. Now I’m waiting for paperwork because I keep getting sent to voicemail. Regardless, the lack of communication has caused me many issues, my job in particular. I learned more sitting in my room alone than I did from sitting through each session. Do not listen to the intake person on the phone. In detox, you will not have your phone until you talk to a counselor (again, 5 days and I spoke to no one). After it’s once per day. As well as not having outside access except when they allow. I only worked with one counselor as I was leaving, I believe his name was Payton. He didn’t even tell me I was signing AMA documents when I left. He just said “I just need to ask you some questions”. Unfortunately, it seems like a great place, but you will have a lot of hardship afterwards in this facility.

Response from the owner
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re grateful for your kind words about our facility, nursing team, and day-to-day staff — they work hard to provide compassionate care to every individual.

We’re very sorry to hear that you felt communication during your stay fell short. While federal privacy laws prevent us from discussing any individual's care, including medical or clinical timelines, we take all feedback seriously and continuously strive to improve how we support and engage with those in our care.

Our specific protocols related to cell phone policy, personal possessions and communication with outside entities related to your long-term recovery (employers, medical professionals, etc.) are in place intentionally with one primary purpose in mind: supporting each patient’s short & long-term recovery.

We understand how important communication and clarity are during such a vulnerable time, and we regret that you left feeling frustrated. Please know that your concerns are being reviewed by our leadership team to help us strengthen our process and ensure every client feels heard, supported, and fully informed.

We sincerely wish you health and healing in your recovery journey.

Warm regards,
