About Heritage Valley Sewickley

Heritage Valley Sewickley is located on Blackburn Road in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. Nestled among beautiful, wooded hills and trails, along the Ohio River, Sewickley provides a calming, natural backdrop for compassionate care for treatment and healing from addiction and behavioral health issues.

Additional Resources for Wellness

Behavioral health services are offered to adult men and women as well as seniors, experiencing substance use disorders or co-occurring mental health disorders in a hospital-setting that provides extensive care. Sewickley is part of Heritage Valley Health System, a larger health network, offering opportunities to continue care at other Heritage Valley locations, when needed.

This also provides you with opportunities to continue through their outpatient after care support programs. Should a relapse occur, they have emergency stabilization services on standby and can assist with lab work and a pharmacy onsite.

Emphasis on Self-Worth and Your Goal of Recovery

I find it encouraging to know that self-worth is vital to their integrated approach. They aim for you to leave their treatment programs with the mindset of knowing that there is more to life than mental health treatment, and that you can indeed live a healthy lifestyle after your treatment and recovery.

This mindset will help in motivating you to continue treatment and assist in your transition to return to your routines and personal commitments. This can include enhancing your sleep to cope with stress and assistance with speech therapy and neurological needs.

Ideal Natural Backdrop for Healing and Wellness

The facility is located near the Ohio River and among many historic landmarks and noteworthy sites, including a humbling monument that honors the brave Tuskegee Airmen. It’s also close to Sewickley’s historic downtown district, War Memorial Park, Mary Roberts Rinehart Nature Park and nearby community resources to provide opportunities for reflection, healing and additional treatment resources, should you require them.

It's like the blind leading the blind there, they pawn everything off on the next shift which causes confusion and everybody tells you a different answer to the same question. It took 35 minutes for a someone to get to my dad's room to put a pan under him for him to take a no.2,he should of had a drain out in his mid section B4 leaving the hospital , now it's too late for he is at home in hospice care, a nurse took off a bandage said she'll be right back to put a new one on, a day later still not done. One physical therapist looks like he should be in a walker himself. The one nurse Carly looked like a bowling ball. My dad took 2 water pills for a year, the hospital only gave him one, they don't follow directions, they do what they want and my dad left the hospital in worse shape than when he got there and then got phenmomia there cause they let him lay all day in bed because they only show up to collect a paycheck and NOT care, people you chose the wrong profession, now he is in hospice with only days to live, lawsuit is on its way...

Went in there 7 days after being in there the first time because they said come back if symptoms didn't get any better. Doctor was in my room for about 30 seconds and barely explained anything to me. Just seemed like they wanted to hurry up and get me out of there this time. Should have went to Wexford.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Well, I got in and out fast and got a disc of a scan they did, which is what I went there for primarily (as long as the disc has what it's supposed to have on it), so that was all good. However, I'm still in a good bit of pain just taking a deep breath and moving around, feels like an elephant sat on my chest 3 weeks after the injury, still feeling and hearing *popping* noises in my ribs when I twist certain ways.. lol weird..no idea why (just to name a few bothersome things); and so I have to be honest and say that I didn't feel as though the doctor (and I don't know who else) really took me seriously or thought I was in as much pain and discomfort as I was, and still am. I will at least say that the male nurse that was there was very kind. That's about it. Not much of anything was done to help with my symptoms, or any real answers as to why it's bothering me as much as it is. Sadly, I've begun to get used to that when it comes to the healthcare system. Oh well. I'm hoping over time, I truly do heal and I don't continue to feel like my whole torso got out of alignment or somethin. Smdh. I'd say speak up, be your own advocate, bla bla bla, but that's gotten me nowhere good. Good luck to the rest of you out there!

I had a very embarrassing experience after being sent to the Emergency Room by my physical therapist. The Doctor was very kind and explained the tests found nothing to be concerned about. I probably had a virus and placed me on antibiotics. That was at approximately 3 o’clock. I had to wait until approximately nine to be taken home by ambulance because the hospital has a contact with a certain ambulance service. I have a medical condition and a weight problem and can’t walk and need the ambulance to get into my house. To make a long story short, when it came time to travel with the ambulance I was left with out any clothes from the waist down.,due to the fact that I wore a external catheter during my stay of approximately 10 hours.I was rushed out of the emergency room with out being fully dressed, I even asked where were my pajama bottoms. The male nurse sent in to assist in my transfer said that my pajama bottoms were tucked under my head like a pillow. I guess the embarrassing part was that when I arrived at my home, I was asked to leave the stretcher and transferred to a chair to transfer me into my house and at that point, I informed the ambulance attendance that I had no bottoms on. I was left without my bottoms on to stand in my front yard, in front of my neighbors, my family and curious on lookers to see why they were two ambulances in my front yard. I don’t know who to blame. What is the hospital emergency staff To blame or the ambulance attendance who picked me up at the hospital and help me transfer to the stretcher that took me to the ambulance that took me home.

Went to the er for abdominal issues. The Doctor didn’t even examine me except press on my abdomen while I was sitting in a chair. I was never given a gown and there was blood on the floor and on the bed rail. I told the nurse and He cleaned it up with a Sanicloth. Not long after that he gave me a Iv. I can’t be certain Hw changes His gloves or washed his hands. I have to have a procedure at this plan on Sep. I’m only going b cause I lack transportation. I’m am so scared.

UPDATE: ..I went back 2 days later because my problem wasn't resolved the first time I went...I have normal blood pressure & it had spiked super high twice..The Saturday afternoon Emergency Room Crew couldn't have been more professional & kind & I believe we may have resolved my problem..Thank You! First Visit: I had a heart test at the ER the young woman who did it was cold and uncaring. She left a the sticky pads on me, never told me I was finished. I asked that the IV or blood work be done for my hands because it's always difficult to find my veins I had to go to the bathroom for urine test and it was a little difficult to wash my hands, I went to the desk and asked for hand sanitizer they all looked at me cross-eyed and was told but you're the one that wanted the iv in your hands so at that point I said to her I see I'm being punished for that now. The doctor was nice enough but was in there for a short period of time started to tell me things she got a phone call left and never came back I had to ask a Nurse if I was done. I never really got the full report of what was going on with me. I was born in that hospital and what I experienced yesterday was a nightmare, the the two young men who brought me to the hospital in an ambulance were very kind and compassionate. too bad some of the Nursing staff at Sewickley Valley we're not. I had to wait for my ride in the emergency waiting room the woman behind the desk there and the other nurse were lovely. Sewickley valley needs to pick up its care at the hospital and start treating its patients with more professional care
