About Meridian Behavioral Healthcare – Lake City Office

Known for its many springs, lakes, and rivers, Lake City, Florida features Meridian Behavioral Healthcare – Lake City Office. Since 1971, this community health center has served North Central Florida adults, youth, and families. From residential programs to aftercare, you can access comprehensive addiction and mental health treatment for any recovery stage.

Their Lake City location provides residential and outpatient treatment, including counseling, specialized opioid care, crisis stabilization, emergency screenings, and more. You’ll benefit from personalized care with your recovery goals at the forefront. You can recognize and change the behaviors contributing to substance abuse and gain essential coping skills for sustained recovery.

Empowering Recovery through Stable Employment

What stands out most to me is their supported employment services. They understand that finding employment while in recovery can come with some challenges. You can access guidance and assistance while in treatment to transition to work. That way, you’ll have a solid foundation and financial stability to benefit recovery.

Tailored Services to Get Back on Your Feet

I also think their homeless recovery services are fantastic. They welcome adults experiencing homelessness due to substance abuse or mental health conditions. Their dedicated team connects you to local resources to secure affordable housing. You’ll benefit from gaining the tools to support your recovery and find a permanent home.

One of my favorite things about this program is their community engagement outings. You can enhance interpersonal habits and connect with others in recovery through their trail walks, gardening classes, art workshops, volunteer opportunities, and more. I think this is a great way to explore new outlets for self expression and self care.

Specialized Aid for Our Heroes

Lastly, I think it’s great that they have supported services for Veterans and their families. This program assists Veterans and their loved ones who are homeless or experiencing housing insecurity. You can access referrals for legal services, education, employment, financial management resources, and more. They even offer temporary financial assistance to help you get back on your feet.

This place has changed since I last enrolled and I’m finally, getting help I need. The staff at Williams Matter and the Director are amazing. The food is great! The front desk staff are always professional and polite. Miss Rose my Peers specialist goes above and beyond for my care! The custodial and maintenance staff are the best. My nurse practitioner, Miss Josie and Austin also go above and beyond! I couldn’t be any happier and safe while I work on my mental health and sobriety. Thank you!

Tiffany and Anita with the mobile response team in Lake City are amazing and saved my life at home in a tough abusive situation. Meridian is judged too harshly. They are very professional and comforting and Meridian cares. I will always give meridian 5 stars, I would give 10 stars if I could.

Accepted Insurance

Please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Meridian Behavioral Healthcare – Lake City Office works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) involve frequent and robust therapeutic sessions for clients requiring high-level care. Clients may engage in a combination of medication assisted treatment (MAT), addiction counseling, recovery skills training, and holistic therapies for a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 hours per week. Intensive outpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery, those exiting detox or inpatient care, and those at an elevated relapse risk.

The first step of the recovery process involves the removal of all drugs and alcohol from your system while under 24/7 medical supervision. Known as a medically assisted detox, you are closely monitored by medical staff who can provide medications, if necessary, to help alleviate any potential withdrawal symptoms. Medical detox is usually followed by a period of inpatient addiction treatment.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I wouldn't recommend this place unless it's a last resort, to be honest. My thirteen year old son was admitted here a few weeks ago and I signed him out three days later as soon as I could. I gave two stars instead of one because the mood stabilizer he is on is helping a little besides side effects we have to discuss at med management. And the doctors and nurses update you on his treatment plan through phone calls. So I will give them credit for that. When I went to visit him, however, I was concerned. There was very little for the kids to do in there besides a chalk board and a few books and a TV that my son said he is rarely allowed to watch. He said he received therapy for five minutes in the morning in a group session. Well, than what is the point of being there? He also said he wasn't allowed to cry because anyone who did would be punished by being sent to their room. How are they supposed to get help if they can't even express emotions and cry? Isn't that the opposite of what this place is meant to do? He said that one kid got upset over a snack and was sedated for it. Come on, now. Don't you think that's going too far? These kids are there for help, not to be treated like a burden or sedated especially at an age where their minds are critically developing. I mean I get this isn't a field trip but it isn't prison, either. My child was placed on a med, unmonitored for its side effects during a full twenty four hour period despite throwing up several times on it with a prior gastric issue history. And they wanted to add another med without monitoring him on the first med. He said he was also told by a therapist to grow a backbone, which I feel is pretty rude coming from a therapist. I think this place needs more therapists with a better understanding of what these kids go through. My son was bullied beyond belief at school to the point of being suicidal. And if he had a hard time opening up maybe it's because he needs professionals who actually care and listen that he can trust and who put their years of training to practice and don't treat their job like just a paycheck, all while the rest of his world has let him down. Kids commit suicide every day because of bullying that they never deserved to have to endure, and if they had the right help and therapists they could actually build trust with, it could be prevented. If you could be a fly on the wall and go through what my son has every day at school, you would look at it through a different lens.

(Please take the time to read this) I don’t usually don’t do reviews unless someone asks for them but I really need to voice my concerns about this facility so no one won’t have to go through the same horrible experience I did and possibly get to the next step in having this facility shut down. Starting March 29th of this year I was sent to this facility to receive help by people who had the best intentions for me. My first day had started off rough, I was seen by a psychiatrist Dr. Warren(I don’t know if that’s how it’s spelled) or the so-called “doctor”. When she spoke to me she came across as rude and hostile along with twisting my narrative as if everything was my fault. I already felt bad as it was and she just added to the list of problems I was already having. During my second day, March 30th, there was a guy who kept getting close to me, crawled in my bed while my roommate was inside and even fell in my lap while I was watching tv. What did the lovely nurses do on my behalf? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. These nurses are some of the worst people I’ve ever seen. During that day I had asked for my phone to retrieve some phone numbers, the assistant came and had asked the nurse who was over the property. She had caught an attitude and said she didn’t have time for that while sitting doing nothing. And so I kept asking and asking until they finally got it after the few hours I was asking. They spoke to me as if I was being held hostage saying things like if I didn’t do so and so I wouldn’t be getting out and stay past my 72 hours. Third and last day, March 31st, I was sent to the “doctor” again and this time when we had our conversation again she stared menacingly at me for a while as if I was getting interrogated and said to my face that I think that this was all one big joke. Yeah that’s a wonderful thing to say to a suicidal patient. Then I witnessed one of the patients freaking out because they were withholding her seizure medication and they were doing nothing but complaining saying she was being over dramatic. The rest of the day was normal and I was finally released from that prison. Overall this place was terrible, worse than prison actually. The nurses will NOT take care of you. They stay on their phones, neglect their jobs, saying the rudest things behind the bubble they’re in not thinking we can hear them or think we’re too crazy and stupid to understand. The food was awful. I had contracted food poisoning and still having stomach problems which caused me to go to the doctor. Parents, please DO NOT send your child to this facility. The nurses will talk to them like dogs. I've heard them say some of the most awful things to them. Do NOT send your loved ones here, they will not receive the help they deserve with having not one therapy session and will feel worse than they already had. That psychiatrist needs her license revoked as she’s doing nothing but hurting mentally ill people. All the negative reviews you read about this place are NOT lying. I have witnessed it firsthand. This place has left me traumatized and I feel worse than I already did. If anyone over this facility reads this you will hear from my attorney soon because this treatment was unacceptable and no one should EVER have to go through that.

My 99 year old Aunt has a 35 year old grandson who was threatening to kill her. I called 911 and the police Baker Acted him. He was taken to Meridian He was extremely manic. I was called the next day from a Ms Rossin asking me what had happened. I told her all of the details of his threats to hurt me and kill his grandmother( whom he lived with) and she seemed very concerned and told me that they would start him on some medication but they needed me to sign a consent form to make him take the medication. I did sign and returned the form. The very next morning she called me a said that they were letting him out!!! After only 3 days!!! I was speechless!!! Well they let him out and he went straight to his grandmothers house and beat her up very bad!!! 99 years old!!! He was let out after I told them that this would happen!!! I am furious!!! Something needs to be done about this place

They say if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say nothing at all been here since the 28th, and this will be my last weekend there Monday,I often didn’t feel like I was treated with respect by the staff especially the new nurse Marvineisha, and Troy who was training her. I’ve been to other clinics, and never really had problems, but this clinic is very much so extra. I told them i’s been leaving shortly, and Dr Austin wants to take me down on my dose 5mg even though he knows the plan is for me to be signing paperwork to leave. I was told that benzo’s are very addictive by a Dr who prescribed methadone which can also be addicting and causes physical dependence, and I was about to leave the day I did intake but decided to stay and start to taper off my benzo’s. Anyways Monday when I there was a few drops left in my bottle from Sunday and I took the rest not thinking it would be an issue cause they take forever to do everything. Anyways the denied my dose for that day per policy so never do that because they won’t dose you. I felt like shit all day then the director Gabe called me because I put in s complaint gor the way I had been treated but it didn’t make a difference, and he said you can’t possibly withdraw from not having your medicine for 30 hrs. Although I’m sure some people have no problem, I personally didn’t vibe well with the staff except my counselor Valarie who has a big heart, and treated me with respect, and was was amazing. There are people who are failing for crack or benzo’s they said, and still have no problem dosing but they said they’ve been there 15 yrs so maybe it’s a pick snd choose situation. I’m not sure but I just know this clinic isn’t working fot me. I would also not recommend it to other people who need with addiction because they make it so complicated, but to each it’s own. I’m going to be leaving to do what’s in my best interest.
