Dr. Joe Raviv, of Endeavor Health, is a dangerous physician that performs unneeded operations on patients for additional insurance money. I visited him in 2014, and all I needed was endoscopic sinus surgery (where the surgeon widens the sinus passages to create better drainage). However, when I was sedated, he threw in an unnecessary septoplasty that severely narrowed the right side of my nasal airway. For people reading this, I have included x-ray images of the inside of my nose, before and after my surgery with him (IMAGES ARE ON HIS YELP PROFILE. I CAN'T POST THEM HERE). As you can see from these images, my nasal airway was equally open on both sides, before surgery, and the septoplasty didn't need to be done. By performing it, he cut off airflow on the right side of my nose. He performed this unnecessary surgery to collect that additional insurance money. Furthermore, when I later contacted him, and told him that my breathing was worse, and I suspected it was a problem with my septum, he told me that he wouldn't be able to perform the revision septoplasty (make the septum way it was before). Therefore, not only is he greedy, by performing unnecessary surgeries, but he is incompetent, for not being able to fix his mistakes. This unnecessary surgery has caused me to suffer for 11 years. Since I can't really breathe out of my nose, I don't sleep well at night. I am then exhausted all day, not able to function well, and there is nothing that can be done to fix it. I have lost friends, and jobs over the years, and I am not able to pursue some of the career goals that I wanted to when I was younger. The only reason I can't sue him is that my statute of limitations for medical malpractice has expired. In addition, he is also a coward. As soon as I started talking about my negative experience online, instead of apologizing or trying to remedy the situation, Raviv hired a lawyer (who now, ironically, works as the head of Northshore Legal affairs). This lawyer sent me a cookie cutter "Cease and Desist", informing me that I would be "sued" if I didn't stop talking about my experience. That was 7 years ago, and I haven't stopped anything. When that didn't work, he went to the Northbrook Police Department, hoping they would scare me into not sharing my story. That was now 5 years ago. Well guess what, I am not going to stop talking. I am going to keep spreading the word until everyone connected to Northshore knows about this. This doctor absolutely devastated my life, and the hospital did nothing about it. Please share this information with other people in the Chicagoland area.

If I could give 0 stars I 100% would. This place killed my dad, didn’t try anything to help him. They gave him a blood thinner which was in his files not to give to him but they did anyway and he bled out and they didn’t do nothing to stop the bleeding, they sat there and let my dad bled out to death. This is the worst hospital ever. My dad had kidney cancer which is a very slow moving cancer and it spread in 2 weeks because this hospital did nothing for him. I swear I wouldn’t even take a hamster here this is how bad of a hospital they are. They don’t care bout their patients at all, they would rather sit there and watch you in pain, instead of trying to help you. THEY DID NOTHING FOR MY DAD!!! THIS HOSPITAL IS THE WORST, PLEASE DONT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES HERE

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Individual, couples, family and group psychotherapy is provided by psychologists and licensed clinical social workers. Traditional reasons for seeking therapy/counseling, include, but are not limited to, treatment of depression, anxiety and/or other psychiatric disorders, the desire to change self-defeating patterns of behavior, gain self-knowledge and acceptance, or utilize support to problem-solve an individual's daily living issues.

Inpatient mental health services are available for individuals over age 12. Adult services are centered at Evanston Hospital, while services for adolescents and young adults (ages 12-24) are centered at Highland Park Hospital. Inpatient care is reserved for individuals in crisis whose safety requires a highly structured environment. Both inpatient programs provide comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services.

Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Evanston Hospital is a time-limited, structured psychotherapy program designed to meet the needs of patients who are in need of intensive skill building to better cope with mental illness. The program offers structured treatment when conventional outpatient therapy is not sufficient to stabilize an individual’s symptoms. The program helps participants transition through strengthening abilities to identify triggers, utilize coping skills, communicate effectively, and manage stress.

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Couples counseling provides couples with the skills they need to improve their communication, resolve differences, and enhance closeness and intimacy. It also identifies behaviors and attitudes partners frequently do not recognize as problematic and offers alternative ways of relating, which serve to further deepen their sense of connection.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. The Family Program includes private and multi-family sessions, to support family members throughout the treatment and recovery process.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
