About Henry Ford Providence Southfield Hospital

Henry Ford Providence Southfield Hospital is a hospital that, in addition to medical care, also has a comprehensive behavioral health program that provides both inpatient and outpatient care in Southfield, Michigan. This facility’s behavioral health program specifically focuses on providing substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, and also provides select geriatric psychiatric services.

Southfield offers plenty of natural outlets that can be therapeutic for people undergoing SUD treatment. You can visit Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve which has plenty of walking paths. Comprehensive Addiction Services

Providence Hospital is a medical center so medical care tends to be the core focus. However, the behavioral health program provides both inpatient and outpatient care which includes addiction treatment. Diagnosis, stabilization and even helping you understand the triggers behind the disease of addiction are all core focal points here.

Outpatient Support

While participating in programs here, you can choose between the intensive outpatient program (IOP) or the standard outpatient program depending on the severity of your addiction. Additionally, there is a pharmacy on site, meaning that medication management can also be a component of your treatment plan if needed.

This facility takes a holistic approach to your care so you may work with a suite of providers including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, or even social workers. Your individualized plan is based on your intake assessment and will also prioritize an aftercare program complete with relapse prevention.

Providence Hospital accepts a variety of insurance plans along with Medicare and Medicaid. You can also speak with financial counselors for assistance with making payments or understanding insurance coverage. Payment assistance is available based on demonstrated need.

Update and reply to hospital. I have already talked to the head nurse who was in the room and they did nothing. Don't come on here acting like you care now. On June 4th, we now received another bill for "Critical Care E/M for the first 30-74 Minutes" for $1,722. You kidding me! This was your fault and because of your incompetent staff you are charging me! Wow, just wow. Stay away from this hell hole. If you have a choice, I would strongly recommend considering another hospital. My wife needed surgery on short notice, and this was the only hospital available through her doctor at the time. She was admitted to the 3rd floor from Elevator E. I do want to start with the positives. The OR staff were very good. Kristen and Cheyenne were especially amazing — compassionate, attentive, and professional. The food delivery staff were also very kind. Unfortunately, things significantly declined after she was transferred from surgery to her room. My wife was still waking up from anesthesia when she was brought upstairs. The staff member transporting her appeared unsure of her room assignment and left her waiting in the hallway for an extended period before finding assistance. Once in the room, she was expected to transfer herself from the surgical bed to the room bed while four nurses stood by. She had just come out of surgery and was in considerable pain. Shortly after, her condition worsened to the point that a rapid response team had to be called to stabilize her. What concerned me most was the lack of monitoring and responsiveness afterward. Her machines were going off due to very low blood pressure. She pressed the call button repeatedly for approximately 20 minutes with no response. I had briefly stepped away, and she had to call me so I could try to reach someone. Even after I contacted the unit, it still took about 10 more minutes for someone to casually walk in. After I called to escalate the issue, staff appeared frustrated and disconnected her monitoring equipment, telling her they would monitor vitals using a pad placed underneath her. We later learned from the night nurses that this pad is only used to detect movement — not to monitor vitals. Given that she had already required a rapid response team earlier, this was extremely alarming. The night nurses were excellent, but the following morning another issue occurred. A tech recorded very low vitals and said she would get the nurse. Nearly 50 minutes passed before anyone came, and I had to go ask for assistance again. There also seemed to be a general lack of urgency. Equipment alarms would sound for extended periods without response. At one point, her saline bag was empty and beeping for about 10 minutes until I opened the door and asked for help. While we encountered a couple of truly outstanding nurses, the overall experience reflected a troubling pattern of poor communication, lack of attentiveness, and minimal urgency during a critical post-surgical recovery period. I rarely leave negative reviews, but patient safety and proper monitoring should never feel like a battle. I hope the hospital takes this feedback seriously and works to improve care standards moving forward.

On Mother's Day 2026 my mom was in the hospital she suffered a mini stoke the night before she had her dinner and the following morning she ordered her breakfast at 7am only to find out that they didnt bring her anything I arrived at the hospital at 1:30pm and my mom said she hadn't had anything to eat I then contacted her nurse only for her to tell me she called the food supervisor and complained but nothing was done in the meantime I saw a server in the hallway and asked her if she knew when a tray of food might be coming the server completely ignored me and kept walking 30 minutes went by before the supervisor came up with her tray of food I explained the situation at hand and he apologized but nothing she ordered was on the tray just 4 chicken strips this was totally unacceptable! No one seemed to care my mother is 88 years old and I would think someone would have a little compassion! The food service was horrible I realize they may have been short staffed but people shouldn't be treated like that food service needs to do better at this hospital

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
