Absolutely terrible place, although there are few staff that did help.. majority don t. There was poop on the shower the entire time I was there and I mentioned multiple times to staff that it needed to be cleaned, beds are hard as a rock and so are the chairs, food was terrible, I lost so much weight in there that when I came out I looked malnourished. They were trying to put me on medication that I didn t need. Talking to the therapist was pointless. Even one patient genuinely needed and asked for therapist and were told no and there will be a time he comes for group, and never did.. I only seen the therapist for group once the entire time I was there. They don t supply you with soap. You get locked in a day room all day and not allowed to go to your room, no going outside unless it was to smoke (enough time for one cigarette) you can t even see out the windows. Not to mention they try to scare you into thinking you ll never get out even with signing a AMA this place is all about money and insurance. Kourtney (a nurse) and Mrs. B really helped me tremendously and actually has a good heart. Without them idk what I would have done. They don t deserve to work at a place as terrible as Riverveiw

If I could leave negative stars I would. Their website looks amazing then when patients get in they get locked in the day room. 29 patients when my husband was there and not even 19 chairs. Bathroom hadn't been cleaned the forstv6 days he was there and he knows bc he put a small piece of toilet paper on the floor by the toilet and it never moved. The only therapy they got was talking to each other while literally locked up. My husband finally asked for a broom they gave him one and went back to talking and eating, you know what they do best. So every nite he called me and he started documenting everything that went on, I still have it. The police can't even get someone out that wants to be released they will hold you until insurance runs out. Here's the ticket, when he left they handed him another patients discharge papers. Yes I have a copy of those too and I got them to their original owner. I'm sure hipaa plays a part in there somewhere. They have a partnering facility down around atlanta so be careful if they transfer your loved one down there. I pray constantly for the victims and families that have suffered thru riverview mental health

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The length of stay at the detoxification program is determined according to the specific needs of the patient.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients enrolled in intensive outpatient programs (IOP) may receive up to 20 hours of outpatient treatment per week, but a minimum of nine hours is standard. The intensity and frequency of treatment declines gradually as clients become more stable and prepare to transition to standard outpatient programs. Intensive outpatient treatments generally encompass a variety of modalities, including individual, group, and family therapy, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

I had a great experience at Riverview. The staff was kind and helpful. The doctor was excellent and helped get my medication right. They probably saved my life.

They do not counsel their patients. They treat them like prisoners, they try to isolate them from their families. They told my son that I called them and told them I could not make it to see him but they turned me around when I made it there.

I sent here a year ago and the staff was nice the rooms were clean daily we were allowed to do fun activities and were rewarded boys and girls were mixed in the same unit which caused some problems with SAO (sexually acting out) and I came back and was released yesterday and this most recent experience was okay at best the staff had some problems with attitude which understandable but some staff didn't do the jobs at all like Tyler some staff even allowed children to hit their Vapes I was informed Justice let a child hit hers Dr Stanley was hard to get in touch with as was my counselor Bridget but overall this stay really helped

Beth J. Has yet to get back with me about how my loved one’s location and privacy was compromised, it’s been well over 2 weeks now. I’ve reached out over 5 times and I still haven’t gotten a call back. I deserve answers.

I understand very clearly that patients have to have people on their books but when you have someone with a lot of health problems in your care and their child calls just to ask if they need to bring you any medication and you treat them like trash over the phone... If I would have known how horrible of a place this is I would have never let my mother go there! Believe me when I say I will be getting her out of there ASAP. You will be hearing from our family attorney because the way you're treating your patients clearly is indicative by the way you treat their family members. I will not stand by and allow my type 1 diabetic chronic kidney disease ridden mother be left to rot in some facility where I know clearly you do not care! Sadly your receptionist has better bedside manners than even the supervisor I spoke with who could truthfully act as if she cared less. I don't know what the black woman in charge of unit one's name is but you really should replace her because that attitude is just horrendous!

Riverview is efficient for needing an emergency stay but indescribably disgusting. Whatever the maintenance gets paid, it’s too much. I mean that. Doctors are very helpful and I’m on the right meds for the first time, so kudos. DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE. Multiple times a day an alarm sounded indicating the kids were fighting each other. Do not send your kid here. It is not a safe hospital for children.

My girlfriend got sent here and I haven't been able to get ahold of her for DAYS. After almost a week being there she has not seen or talked to any psychiatrist, she is not getting her meds, and worst of all the staff just make things worse. They do not care about the patients there. Honestly horrible place I wish she was never sent there if it was going to be this bad with no help for her she would've never gone. Why are good people being sent here? This place is NOT for bettering your mental health.

This facility is terrible. Not only do they endanger patients, as is made evident by multiple other reviews, but they endanger the well being of their staff on a continual basis. Send your loved one here if you want them to come out worse, work here if you like getting sent to the emergency room multiple times a year.

Terrible place. 2/10 stars. Loved nurse Alex and Zack due to their groups. Kortne & Candi were very sweet and helpful especially during discharge. The care team was VERY iffy but Tati, Bobby, Cierra, Nisha & Amaris were very great to me. Food was great. Didn’t help me at all mentally and had to mask emotions just to get out of that place because of how it is. Some of the staff definitely needs to be reviewed expeditiously! If the individuals I named weren’t there I would’ve definitely not made it out of that place SOMEWHAT sane. Also the beds and bathroom were terrible. Hard bed and the shower flooded making me feel dirty. Walls need to be cleaned real bad. Idk just don’t go here unless you literally have no other option. Xoxo
