Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Save yourself the trip. I thought I was doing the right thing by going to Trinity Health’s ER, keeping my care under one network, but it turned into a seven-hour nightmare I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I chose Trinity Health’s Emergency Room because my primary care doctor, OB-GYN, and my son’s pediatrician are all with Trinity. I wanted my visit to be consistent and connected with my medical records through MyChart. Even though the hospital’s online Google reviews were already low and mentioned long wait times of five to seven hours, I decided to give it a try anyway, trusting the name and the comfort of staying within the same system. Unfortunately, that was a mistake. I arrived at the ER around 10:30 a.m. on a Wednesday and didn’t leave until nearly 5:30 p.m. The wait time was outrageous, but what shocked me most was the setup once I finally got called back. After triage and registration, I was assigned a bed number, but when I walked through those doors, I couldn’t believe what I saw. The same patients I had just seen waiting in the lobby were now lined up in a hallway in beds, wheelchairs, and chairs, as if the hallway itself was their hospital room. There was no rooms, no curtains, no privacy, no discretion, and no comfort. You could see and hear everyone’s personal business, and they could hear yours. I was placed in a narrow hallway where I could see the patient in front of me and behind me, with staff trying to squeeze by and do their jobs. It was chaotic and unsafe. At one point, the Livonia Fire Department brought in a patient on a stretcher, and because of how cramped the space was, they actually hit my hospital bed while maneuvering the gurney. That’s how tight it was. People on stretchers, mobile X-ray machines, vitals carts, and nurses stations were all trying to fit in one narrow hallway. It was unbelievable and completely unacceptable for a major healthcare system like Trinity Health. It felt like unless your condition was life-threatening, you didn’t deserve a proper room. Patients were miserable and uncomfortable. Families had nowhere to sit or stand. It was disorganized, overcrowded, and beyond reason. Now, I want to be fair and mention the positives, because the staff themselves were not the issue. Every person I encountered was kind, professional, and patient, even though it was clear they were exhausted and overworked. I want to especially recognize Allison (RN), John (tech), and Nick (triage) for their compassion and effort. They genuinely cared about the patients and did their best with what little they had to work with. But overall, Trinity Health needs to do much better. The way this hospital operates its emergency room is unacceptable for a corporation of this size. The setup, the lack of privacy, and the overall experience were nothing short of disgraceful. To make matters worse, I know I will likely receive an expensive bill for the “care” I received, which will not reflect the poor quality of my experience. In a time when insurance costs are already sky-high, it’s frustrating and unfair to be charged premium prices for subpar conditions like this. I passed several hospitals on my way there, and I truly regret not stopping at one of them instead. I won’t be returning to this ER, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless it’s your only option.

Apparently all Trinity Health hospitals are trash. I came to this one thinking it would be different than St. Joe. I was sadly mistaken. Came in for a serious matter but all of the providers that were brought in to help me were extremely unprofessional and had no concerns for what was going on with me and made up their mind that their was nothing wrong with me since I didn't have insurance. I went in for the same exact issue back in July and was admitted then because I had insurance, now I do not and was treated very poorly. 24 hours later and I am in worse pain with worse symptoms than I had yesterday and my paperwork says to return if there is no improvement. Will NOT be returning to such a place that just writes you off because you do not have insurance. I filed a complaint with the state as well; for poor treatment and multiple HIPPA violations.

Awful with communication with family of elderly patients. Made a mental health situation with a 90 year old navy vet worse on his mental state. If you care about your loved one go somewhere else especially for mental health.

Came in ER because my BP was out of control and severely dehydrated. They took me right away and I was very pleased with all of the staff from the ER to all of the different departments that needed to do my testing. Everyone from check in to discharge, doctor, PA, RN, including the people who transported me treated me with great respect and kindness.

Easily the best ER I’ve ever been to. The staff was kind, quick, compassionate and thorough. My nurses, Lana and two other gentlemen that I cannot remember their names, has great bedside manner. Dr. Fisher was the most amazing provider I’ve ever worked with. She is personable and SITS with her patients. She even got me applesauce! I’m a nurse so these things mean a lot to me for the wellbeing of our patients through the nation. Thank you again. 10/10 recommend.

Had an appointment set up for diabetic classes for my parents. THEY chose the time. We were told they had to cancel unless WE would come in earlier. The Dr told us that we would be ableto do this class closer to home! But nope this person told us only at this campus. Not impressed with Trinity AT ALL

If you have a loved one DO NOT take them here. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Listen I get it, some people abuse the hospital system when they do not have an actual urgent matter but that does not give the hospital staff the right to take it out on someone who really does need treatment. If you want to know how you will be treated when entering this place, then close your eyes and picture this, you walk in and approach the employee at the front desk and you say, "Hello." Your immediately greeted with a lip smack, an eye roll, talked over, or just completely ignored. Now, that is just walking through the front doors. Oh it only gets worse once you get in and get a room. The attitudes continue and are grow worse by every one else you come into contact with. They make it very clear that you are a burden to them, that your trying to abuse the hospital system. On top of that expect no sense of urgency. Your concerns mean nothing and wont be heard. Your just treated like absolute garbage here. Avoid this place at all costs.
