If you're reading this review, you might be considering intervention for yourself or a loved one. You might be crying, hurting, screaming into the void; it's terrifying to look at where one might go to be cared for at a time that feels overwhelming, isolating, and dark. You're giving up autonomy to strangers who claim they will help you in a time of need -- this is a major decision. No one wants to check into the ER for a troubled mind. No one wants to reduce their humanity in a highly controlled environment just to keep themselves safe. No one wants to lose access to their phone, their family and friends, the things that make them feel connected to the world at large. And really, no one wants to eat hospital food three times a day. But if you're reading this review it's because there may be no other option but to do these things as you white-knuckle your way through a personal hell on Earth. I myself hit a breaking point recently and did not know where to go; I had been white-knuckling my own inner hell on Earth for weeks and finally imploded, then exploded. After two previous outpatient stays at other facilities across Michigan, multiple psychiatrists and psychologists and therapists, I committed to checking myself into Trinity just to try. Just to see. Just to find the light, if there could be some. And I did find some: The staff here is incredibly kind, helpful, and they never appear inconvenienced. I was given access to multiple different medical specialists and doctors who could discuss the nuanced angles of my struggles. The social workers listened with care. The nurses were good-humored and patient. The recreational therapists were joyful, always smiling. And the food, it turns out, was not all that bad (just make sure you get double portions of everything). I read books and looked out the window, and spoke with others who understood how I was feeling. I was able to rest. I was able to cry. I was able to feel my inner world fully and without judgement. I was anxious to leave when I regained my strength, as anyone would feel, and I felt I needed to leave a review as there were only a few by the time I Googled this facility; as I'm sure you're aware, mental health service providers suffer reviews that can be hard to trust or are designed to scare you based on a unique experience. All I can say is that I put my trust in Trinity and I left with my dignity intact. That is more than what can be said about a lot of places. I leave this review in the hopes that if you or a loved one needs intensive care, please call and give this place a try. The light is here if you need it. I came in to get labs done (blood drawn). This would be a 5 star, however the women at the front desk on floor B, was not a kind woman to any of us. But, lets get to the positives.. Right before you go to Elevator B to go get labs done, the women at the food court were sooo helpful & absolutely delightful. (Mary Ann & Klaudetta they work at Joes Java) they get 10☆s in my opinion. One reason I can't stand this hospital is typically how rude the nurses/any hospital staff is, and that they don't listen when I tell them about my veins, and 9 times out of 10 they believe I am "faking" my pain.. I have MS, Lupus & R.A. HOWEVER, the angel of a woman (Mariglena), not only listened when I expressed the best place to take my blood, she did it flawlessly & her kindness and overall bedside manner (although I was not in a bed) was also worth 10☆s. I may even come back to this hospital, for my labs, just because of them. My 8yr old son needed help urgently, I live nearby and was aware of them, but usually went to my pediatrician with my son's issues, I wish I could remember all there names. From the gentleman at the intake, the nurse, the Dr. And the social worker. All were very kind, all seemed very caring and sensitive to my son's needs, they did more in 3 hours than 2 years of therapy, high price psychiatrists, and multiple visits to an ER did ever. I had several issues and went for depression and anxiety. He helped me so much especially when dealing with coworkers that took advantage of my people pleasing self. He was also a great help to myself and husband when it came to dealing with our young kids… up through the teenage years. When I met him, I didn’t even have a tool box let alone tools for figuring out problems. I had absolutely no self-esteem and he really helped me by giving me the acronym ICCIMOBI= I can choose in my own best interest. That if I was having a hard to saying no that I could say I would think about it then, figure a way out of it. He also taught me to always have plan A, B & C.= A I ask my friend to meet up with me to go see a movie, B if they can’t go, I could ask someone else or go alone, and plan C choose something to do just for myself to make me happy like arts or reading. This is something I still use till this day 17 years later, and I teach it to others. I consider myself totally blessed to have had such a great therapist. The psychiatrists were wonderful as well. The office staff back then was Sheryl or Lee at the front desk, they were ALWAYS so kind and helpful, my messages always got thru promptly. I highly recommend Alan Griffith . I have witnessed others giving them a hard time and being difficult. Respect is a two-way street. Nicole Bryant is absolutely fabulous - I could not ask for a better therapist! Dr. Glitz and I discuss treatment options and we discuss her recommendations. She does run behind at times but I know that is because some clients need a bit more time than others and she is very thorough. I never feel rushed when I'm meeting with her. Note: Mental health providers in Michigan are understaffed and stretched thin. Delays and wait times are common with almost every provider nowadays. From my initial late night phone call with RN Jeanne who reassured me that I was correct in refusing to get stuck on suboxone for 7oh dependence to meeting with Laura and then all the great nursing/patient care staff (especially Pat, with RT) as well as Dr. Aharonov, this place is the real deal. I don’t think I would have been able to get off 7oh any other way. The morning after the procedure was no walk in the park (fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, insomnia); but not having to suffer thru the intense body aches and pains as well as other opiate withdrawal symptoms for 4-7 days at home was well worth the price of admission. If you can handle a bad hangover for a day plus a couple more days of diarrhea, you can handle this. They also give you meds to help ease whatever symptoms you have after. I can’t tell you how many times I had tried quitting at home unsuccessfully (even with comfort meds like gabapentin and clonidine); I knew I had to go somewhere where I could just “rip off the bandaid” and be done with the nightmare I was stuck in and flying to Michigan was one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time. I’m going on nearly a month now since I was there and you couldn’t pay me enough to ever touch 7oh again. I’m forever grateful for this place and the amazing staff that works there. Jail or the streets were your option so remember that these people are getting paid very little yet choose to work here because most of them do care but there are thinhs called HIPPA laws etc and so that takes a toll on certain aspects of how they have to structure thier program. Of course the beds are cramped and not king size but what else would you expect. They just put a lot of money into the outside. A basketball court and pickle ball.. they treat you well there. All the staff is amazing. Ryan and Lori are both awesome! George in the kitchen is the man! Just remember its not supposed to be a 5 star resort. I would recommend this place to anyone. The one thing I would complain about is I always seem to get seriously congested and sick but hey it is rehab. This is the place you want to be, if you want to recover. It's clean, classes are phenomenal, nurses, doctors, therapists, milieu techs, med techs, environmental services, everyone is great. Aftercare here is also wonderful. Update: they are wonderful until you need them again. I called yesterday, they were suppose to call back. I haven't been there for 3yrs. I needed help. Today no response. Tried calling back, no response. I had been seeing a therapist after she quit there. She only had terrible things to say about the place that they weren't up to updated treatments. I was not an attendee, simply a support person for a friend who decided to cut his stay short, but here is what I can say from being a person limited on the outside. 1.) The amount of ability they give to allow for the family member to contact their loved ones is great! I was astounded by the high allowances of connection they give to those who are admitted. It's a huge plus, which is shocking but greatly appreciated. 2.) Every person there was kind but committed. I got the vibe that they were there to do a job, and do it well, but without being rude. I could tell there was compassion here for the people they take in. 3.) They have rules that are relatively strict, as is true of most rehab facilities. 4.) They were clean, and offered as many amenities as they could given that insurance covers those who stay there. It does feel hospital-ey, but it is owned by a hospital, so no real major un-expectations there. MY ONLY COMPLAINT: the heat and A/C in the building seems to be lacking. It seems the facility is well worn, and could use a re-up. It gets hot in there in the summertime, and I can imagine it would be difficult for me to sleep there. Apart from that, I have zero complaints. I feel this team of people did the best they could given the circumstances, and I appreciate their dedication to their jobs. I had to call three times over two weeks, and leave a new voicemail each time for intake and still wasn't called back in the 24 hours their voicemail promises. In fact no one called me until I wrote an upset email to some random email form I found. They had no record I called (I had called the mainline and got transferred to the intake voicemail three times). Then I had a case manager who cancelled the day of our appointment and refuses to return my calls to reschedule two weeks later. Now I "met" with a psychiatrists on video call who scolds me when I try to explain my symptoms when he asked "how bad is your depression", so I start describing my symptoms and he cuts me off and says "WHAT WAS MY QUESTION?" because he meant 1-10 and has no interest in you actual symptoms or life context. This place is a hellhole and sinking. Not one person I talked to can tell me how I go about getting psychological testing for cognitive impairment?
