About Western Pennsylvania Adult and Teen Challenge

Western PA Adult & Teen Challenge in Cheswick, Pennsylvania provides drug rehab services for adult men. Support extends to veterans, seniors, survivors of sexual abuse, and individuals involved in the criminal justice system (excluding DUI/DWI).

Medicaid and various private health insurance plans are accepted. Self-pay is also an option with sliding scale fees available based on income and other factors.

Residential Treatment Services for Men Along The Allegheny River

Residential care is available here in the form of either short or long-term programming, depending on your needs. The facility provides a calm, intimate setting for recovery, with a low client-to-staff ratio for more hands-on, personalized care.

Residents can enjoy meals in a full-service dining hall, as well as keep fit and care for their bodies in the center’s gym and weight room. Treatment is faith-based and incorporates Bible study and spiritual formation opportunities. There’s also a brand new, beautiful chapel on-site where residents can find peace and engage in daily prayer and private worship practices.

Outpatient Drug Rehab and Spiritual Support Services

For more flexible care, clients can also engage in the center’s outpatient programs with therapeutic methods used including motivational interviewing (MI), the Matrix Model, relapse prevention and 12-step facilitation.

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is also offered using FDA-approved medicines like oral and injectable naltrexone, as well as various other medications for psychiatric disorders.

Similarly to the inpatient program, faith-based recovery informs the overall approach here. They integrate Bible study and community service into programming alongside holistic care that encourages clients to address not only their psychological and sociological needs, but their physical and spiritual needs.

I went to this facility about 10 years ago. I do not believe in the ideology of teen challenge. As a Christian, pursuing Christ is a personal decision that everyone has to make for themselves. I do not believe forcing someone to sit through 4-6 hours a day of bible doctrine classes is going to benefit an individual that does not want to be there at all. Teen challenge would argue no one is being forced to be there but for the majority of people there its court mandated so its prision or teen challenge. I agree that God can heal anything including addiction but this facility does nothing to treat the underlying issues of addiction on a scientific level AT ALL. I was miserable the majority of the time I spent here until I transferred to a Veterans facility. It is human nature to reject anything that it is being force fed down your throat regardless of what those views are. I remeber specific times where staff would listen outside your door at night for any "inappropriate language" , that would result in you have to write hours upon hours of bible verses the next day. Also, I disagreed with a majority of the doctrine interpretations that were being tought by staff to other members that were receiving treatment. The main issue I had was a calvanistic approach to Christianity that I do not believe is sound doctrine. If you are looking at treatment for addiction as a Christian I would highly recommend getting support from your local church or pastor, not teen challenge.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

A medical detox is the safest way to wean your body off drugs and/or alcohol in an inpatient setting. When detoxing from addictive substances, the physical and psychological side effects of withdrawal can cause mood swings, anxiety, nausea, or flu-like symptoms. In medically assisted detox, a team of medical professionals are on hand 24/7 to help alleviate potential withdrawal symptoms, administer medications to alleviate withdrawal symptoms, and ultimately keep you safe and comfortable throughout this process.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients engaged in intensive outpatient programs (IOP) live and work in their home community while receiving frequent, high-level care. These programs offer personalized care designed to evolve with the clients' changing needs. Many intensive outpatient rehabs require a minimum of nine hours of treatment per week, but high-risk clients and those in early recovery may receive up to 20 hours of care weekly. IOP services generally include addiction counseling, recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as massage.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient rehabs specialize in providing comprehensive care for clients who choose to remain in their homes and communities during treatment. Their services may include transitional support for clients stepping down from intensive inpatient programming. Ambulatory medical detox may be provided for clients at low risk for withdrawal complications. Many programs include evening, night, and weekend services to accommodate clients who are working professionals or caregivers. Addiction counseling and life skills training are common treatment modalities.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Alcoholism is a syndrome of dependent alcohol use. Also called alcohol use disorder (AUD), the symptoms include craving alcohol, not being able to stop drinking, and feeling anxious or irritable when not drinking. For many people, alcohol rehab in Pennsylvania is a beneficial treatment. Programs offer many levels of care, including medical and behavioral therapies.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in Pennsylvania can be helpful to individuals who are experiencing substance use disorder and various mental health conditions. It helps you identify damaging thought and behavior patterns and replace them with healthy ones.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Pennsylvania is an evidence based technique that involves group therapy, individual therapy, and phone coaching. Group sessions focus on learning behavioral skills. Individual therapy gives you the opportunity to apply what you're learning to your personal situations. Phone coaching allows you to call your therapist during the week for help with challenging situations.

This should not appear in google searches for doctors, hospitals nor mental health care.

Response from the owner
Good evening. Our facility is not listed on our google my business profile as a doctor, hospital or mental healthcare facility, instead we are simply listed as a drug rehabilitation and drug treatment facility, as we are a state licensed treatment facility. If you have any further questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact us. Thanks.

When I went to teen challenge, I fought it all the way at first. When I arrived I was greeted with the nicest , caring, staff that made me feel welcome, warm and comfortable. During my stay at TC I learned alot about myself and how to deal with life head on. I was able to learn about God and work on my relationship with God. Everyone at TC between the staff and the clients have touched my life in away I just can't explain I would reccomend teen challenge to anyone who is struggling and is ready to surrender. None of us r alone in this journey. God bless you and I wish y'all the best...🙏 # GOD US GREAT!!!!👣

Response from the owner
Thank you Jace! God is great!

Adult and Teen Challenge is a great program with strong discipline and is long term faith based. I would recommend this program to anyone struggling with addiction. There are many 30,60,90 programs out there and they are a great stepping stones but really believe long term helps the student find the root to the issues that may cause their struggles. I love the fact that they have a restoration program for those who need to come back if still struggling. The newest addition to the program of the 50 year history of Adult and Teen Challenge is a Detox and 30 day program which are greatly needed with the national opioid problems. The Hope of the Adult and Teen Challenge program is that those in the 30 day program will decide to stay for the long term a Faith based program.

Teen Challenge is a great and powerful ministry where lives are changed for the better!!! It's a place full of love and compassion with a staff that cares deeply for its clients. Teen Challenge offers a personal level of care that you just don't get in other rehabs. If you're struggling with addiction and need to be in a safe, understanding, and helpful environment, this just might be the place for you!!!

Teen Challenge has been a huge part of my life over the past 15 years and has been a blessing and instrument God has used in my sobriety and my still being alive. It has helped me also with my journey with Christ and my understanding of Him and how to develop more character like Him. I am deeply grateful to the Ministry and all the men God has brought into my life over these years and the great opportunities Teen Challenge has opened for me. I would like to also thank Pastor David Lewis for his steadfast love for all the men that come through this program and what he has done as a Brother-in-Christ for me. God Bless.

Teen Challenge has been instrumental in changing my son's life and many others that have struggled for years with addiction. The most important element to me personally is that he was taught the life saving gospel of Jesus Christ. I grew up knowing of Teen Challenge and am grateful that it was a life changer in my child's life. I can happily say that I now work for them and can see God move in the lives of many. The staff has genuine concern of helping these men walk in freedom. It's a place where compassion and love is shown instead of judgement.

Response from the owner
Thank you Sheryl! I'm so happy to hear your son is doing well :)

This program has forever changed my life. This is a place that teaches you the truth from God’s word and relates it all back to recovery from drug addiction. I have gained so many different skills here to cope with negative emotions, and with my own personal struggles. I would strongly recommend this program to anyone struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.

Response from the owner
Thank you Michael! What a beautiful experience.
