This review is for Alexa for parent reunification counseling.[tl:dr choose another therapist for better chance at reunification therapy success]Background:My goal for these sessions with Alexa was to allow my son to talk about his resentment towards me in a constructive manner, to try to off load as much psychological weight from him before college as possible. His mother had showed no interest in discussing the problem, refusing to even call a family therapist at my expense, and indeed to be nurturing and using the child's resentment as a tool for further gatekeeping and enmeshment. Thus I was left no recourse but court ordered reunification therapy.Unfortunately, I found Alexa to be biased in her report to the court, and borderline manipulative in our sessions. For example: she wrote "Paul lives in a 1bd apartment with his girlfriend" intimating I had not prepared a proper home for my son when a more accurate description would contain any variations of the following...Paul moved to Seattle as soon as possible after the pandemic to be as close to his son as possible and is living in a temporary apartment < 10min walk from his sons house. This allows easy visitation without necessitating overnight stays to begin the process. Paul is in a stable long term relationship with a partner that supports his efforts to reconnect with his son and has no inclination to insert herself into the process. In the report, she also suggested that I was unaware of the development needs of a 15yo because I questioned what changed in the relationship with my son from three years previous. Alexa suggested the difference was my ignorance of childhood development, that i did not understand his changing needs. She left out that the major change was due to a final cessation of the on again/off again romantic relationship between me and the boy's mother. The ending of that relationship sparked increased gatekeeping and a change in the boy's demeanor, which Alexa did not acknowledge.Additionally, she treated me like a witness being cross examined. Did you move to Seattle only for you son? -YesWhat about your job? They prefer you in Boston? -YesDo you have friends here? -No, my friends are at my old homeSo given all that, if you cant see your son, will you move away? -Maybe, my social life was better there. My career better in Boston. In the report she stated I would move away if reunification was not successful. I felt she was trying to steer me to this answer.Reunification therapy is risky to begin with, and outcomes not guaranteed, but to better your chance of repairing a relationship with your child, I recommend not using Alexa.

I cannot speak highly enough about CWS! I ve been with CWS off and on for over 10 years, as circumstances have arisen where I need temporary or longer term support. I ve experienced transformative therapy in my relationship w myself, my children and even work related situations. My daughter at age 16 was helped tremendously. The clinicians are vetted by Toni, the owner, highly ethical and competent. I highly recommend them! Susan

Accepted Insurance

Avalon Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Effective drug rehab in Washington integrates care for the whole person, offering comprehensive solutions to addiction. Treatment methods address mental, physical, and relational aspects of substance abuse.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Unhelpful Response email didn't even include a signature which is greatly unprofessional- as if they are ashamed to be associated with this business..

It's taken me a while to get to the. point to write this review and I was really conflicted between giving a two star or a three star. This review is specifically for the counselor I saw Katie Unterreiner, since I didn't get a chance to interact with anyone else. there. My appointments started out great. I was coming from a bad experience with a previous therapist and been recommended to Katie. She was friendly and helped me narrow down symptoms that I was feeling. Things started to go more downhill when my appointments started to start late and end early. I brushed it off because I was finally get some help that i really needed and honestly didn't like conflict. Then she started canceling my appointments and making me reschedule weeks after the initial appointment. This happened multiple times. The final thing was when I had an appointment scheduled that she cancelled right when my partner lost their job. She wanted to reschedule my appointment to the next month since we were already halfway through the current month. When I informed her that we would lose our insurance at the end of the current month she just told me to get in touch "once I had the whole insurance thing figured out." She also said that she would check back in with me the next month (she didn't thankfully). Super happy that I was able to find a much much much better therapist, I just wanted to share my experience for anyone who may be considering going here (especially if you have abandonment issues 🙃)

I've been hesitant to leave a review, because I don't think it's fair to review all for my experiences with two counselors here. But I also feel it's best to be honest so improvement can, hopefully, happen. After moving to Seattle with a heavy medical diagnosis, I came here for support. My first counselor was okay. She listened and that is what I needed. But I didn't feel supported and that was very evident when I realized she was no longer practicing here and didn't make an effort to communicate this to me. No one did. My second attempt to find support here was far more upsetting. I had called in after losing 2 people I was very close to, to suicide and death. I was devastated. I called to make an appt explaining the difficult time I was having. I was happy that I was able to get in quickly, but at my appt, the counselor was running late, left to get food and coffee, and ate during the first 25 minutes of my appt. Nothing like being in crisis/grief and having your therapist put more attention into a muffin than in what is happening with their client. I received no logical support here from her. She kept mentioning referrals to her nutritionist friends she went to school with. Hey, I'm all for better health- but there's a time and place for that suggestion and it's not during a crisis-based appointment. I ended up getting back to work late, which added to my stress, and received no help for what I was experiencing or support for my grief. I gave 2 stars because the person making the appointments has always been really helpful and nice. She's the best part of this business.

If you need real help DO NOT GO HERE! I reported Toni Napoli's mal-practice to the State But got No Help because the situation automatically becomes a he-said, she-said situation unless it's a crime. I assure you, if you are a man or parent, YOU WILL NOT BE GIVEN FAIR CONSIDERATION UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY AGREE TO "THEIR" GODLESS VIEWS OF LIFE--i.e. "There is no truth."
