this place is basically a daycare, the only people with "success" leaving pathetic 5 star reviews obviously have very mild mental health issues, no trauma. if u feel so special being coddled by these fake doctors, you're favored for not even being ill to begin with and not being "difficult". pathetic. i'm traumatized from this place. not only did I have multiple negative experiences with staff, the treatment itself was absurdly lacking. the facility stinks, from the treatment I received from the "doctor", to the quite literal sense; it smells like a rodent cage. how are droning dull 1 hour "classes" in a poorly lit office space, referencing outdated/inaccurate material was supposed to heal my mental health...staff expected my depression/anxiety/ptsd symptoms to be fully cured in a few days time from this lackluster "treatment". all the while antagonizing and triggering me, picking at me. i was bullied by multiple doctors and employees for being "difficult to treat" aka i was not cured in two days. this environment essentially encourages patients to be deceptive about their true mental health status. they wanted me to lie and pretend i was ok, all the mean while charging thousands to my insurance.

Not a healthy or safe place for those who suffer from eating disorders or borderline personality disorder. My partner is currently there and her needs for her bpd have been completely ignored. They use threats like we will send you somewhere worse where they will shove tubes down your throat and make you eat. They intentionally traumatized her knowing it's a bpd trigger. They are unprofessional and under qualified to be licensed psychologists because they don't understand that mental health is not a cookie cutter one size fits all thing. Individuals with bpd need different approaches to treatment to not get triggered. The parts of the brain that involve controlling impulses, emotions, and avoiding triggers is smaller than normal which makes it that much harder to deal with. They don't listen at all as to the patients needs. We are currently in the process of getting a lawsuit against specific staff and the facility. They have psychologically and emotionally abused my partner. On top of all that, they were washing 2 of my partners hoodies, one of which was $80 and they somehow lost them. This facility is horrible and they need to be shutdown and so does Fairfax. Yes I put them in the same category. All of my partners friends will also be speaking up in behalf of my partner against this facility and it's staff. May karma gesture her hand towards all who treat their patients poorly and don't consider a patients triggers or their mental health care.

This place and the staff working here saves lives. As someone close to some who was admitted here, I will never be able to thank the staff enough for their care. The inpatient unit is clean and modern, the food was great, group therapies were helpful and educated. I highly recommend Overlake for anyone going through a hard time.

Accepted Insurance

Overlake Hospital Medical Center – Behavioral Medicine works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

When I was admitted I was on the brink of wanting to die. I was a mess, my marriage was falling apart, I was extremely depressed and my anxiety was over the top. Overlake saved my life and my family. They helped me get in the right meds and Learn SO much about myself. I have the tools, knowledge and skills I need to move forward and I feel so hopeful. Thank you for everything! This place was truly a blessing ❤️

Horrible place. Not autism or eating disorder friendly. You can’t have anything- so you can’t have things to cope (fidgets, headphones, etc). It’s also an old part of the hospital that hasn’t been remodeled. Not a high quality place. They don’t allow any exceptions or accommodations to their rules. Lots of the staff didn’t understand autism or ED‘s. They made me draw labs that I did two days before - an unnecessary payment for the same labs that I already received the results(all normal). Some staff are nice, while others are cold hearted- the way they talk to you does not make you feel cared for. You have to wear paper scrubs(itchy). My mom works in a hospital, and even she (without any problems I have) said she couldn’t wear them. They will give you rashes. They have more strict rules than any hospital I’ve ever been to. They said patients are not allowed phones because “their abuser could text them something triggering“. I am calling them out on their BS. If you need mental health help- this place is not for you. It was a waste of time. Don’t even try. Evergreen hospital is where I usually go- and it’s way better.

Overlake BHU was my very first experience of an inpatient psych unit. It’s like a hotel! The rooms are amazing, you get a nice window view of the outside, and the food is awesome 🩵 The groups are a lot. Always participate in them because they will load you with a lot of information about your feelings and emotions and coping skills to help. The staff, all of them are very nice people. I felt safe the entire time and to be honest, I got way too comfortable. The therapists are good people and would always try to help you at any times of crisis. You can also make phone calls whenever. Oh and, make sure to order food in advance (the food is nice!) I found the cases in Overlake to be much milder than other hospitals I have been in, so maybe they have a certain criteria.

Wish I could give no stars. A loved one came in seeking voluntary inpatient admission and was turned away because they “did not meet criteria.” Without being seen by a physician, the social worker decided that someone who is experiencing suicidal ideation, and is unable to properly care for themselves would be better served by waiting at home for a week and then starting a 6-8 week outpatient program. Ridiculous. Overlake and specifically the social worker, Daisy, will be responsible if something happens that could have been prevented had they received the appropriate care. Disgusting.
