I work about 50-60 hours a week. Missed an appointment for prescription refill (work), got a temporary 20-day refill put together for it. Once again, had to miss the next phone call due to work. When I tried to schedule another temporary, they said there's 10 days until I'm due because my ***30 day*** prescription has not run out yet. Here's a question: if my "30 day" prescription is correct (they mislabeled, I've been empty as of yesterday)... then why do I have an appointment scheduled with one of your psychiatrists for my refill?Sure, I was too busy to make the appointment. No lies there. But, why does half of your department know it's time for my refill and the other half is on Mars?

We were referred here from Brookline, and at first, I had high hopes the office was clean and seemed professional. But unfortunately, we ended up with a truly awful therapist. She was like one of those mean old-school teachers harsh, cold, and completely lacking empathy. While I was trying to explain our situation, she scolded and pressured my anxious 9-year-old child right in front of me. Instead of helping him feel safe, she made him feel worse. My child quietly cried as we left the building, and told me he never wanted to go back.Because of this experience, he never received the trauma treatment he needed, and now he refuses to see any therapist at all. This woman didn t just fail to help she made things worse. No child should have to go through that.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are designed for clients who are medically stable and not at an elevated risk of relapse, including those who have already completed inpatient care. Outpatient programs typically advance clients' established treatment plans, offering continuing addiction counseling and recovery education. Clients who enter outpatient care immediately following detox may also receive medical and mental health assessments and personalized treatment plans. Most outpatient rehabs provide multiple levels of care to align with clients' unique needs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab offers robust, hands-on care in a highly structured and supportive environment. The facility provides housing, meals, and round-the-clock supervision, allowing clients to focus exclusively on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves intensive addiction counseling based on CBT, DBT, RBT, motivational interviewing, or other psychotherapeutic approaches. Many inpatient treatment centers also offer life skills training and/or complementary therapies, including meditation, mindfulness, and nutrition counseling.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Due to various health issues that substance abuse causes, 24-hour clinical care in Massachusetts is often a necessary part of treatment. Individuals may be suffering from infections, illness, or organ damage. Having 24-hour care available ensures that these physical problems are treated along with the psychological effects of addiction. Once individuals complete detox and are medically stable, this intensive level of supervision ends, and the next phase of treatment can begin.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Medically supervised detox is the process of removing addictive substances from your body and managing the withdrawal symptoms in a medically supervised environment. Typically, this is the first step in the recovery process and lasts an average of 5-7 days, though the length can vary depending on your individual needs. Once your system is cleared of alcohol and drugs, you'll likely transition to an inpatient treatment program for the next phase of your recovery.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

During cognitive behavioral therapy in Massachusetts, clients work with a trained counselor to identify negative thinking patterns and change them. This change in thinking has been shown to lead to changes in behavior to treat substance use and mental health disorders effectively.

If you are experiencing intense, negative emotions, dialectical behavior therapy can help you learn how to regulate painful emotions and manage the interpersonal situations that generate them. This method is often used during substance use treatment in Massachusetts to help you develop better coping skills and avoid relapse.

Group therapy is a safe space for participants to share their stories and experiences within a confidential and judgment free environment. You have the opportunity to openly discuss your difficulties and create a network of community support that can extend long after group therapy sessions end.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Four principles are key to motivational interviewing in Massachusetts. First, the therapist offers empathy for the client's feelings and experiences. Second, they encourage the client to believe in themselves and their ability to change. Third, the therapist refrains from imposing their own viewpoints. Lastly, the therapist helps the client identify discrepancies in their circumstances and future goals.

Trauma therapy addresses the psychological impact of experiencing a traumatic event. You can also experience mental and emotional injury after witnessing a trauma. By identifying what triggers those responses and developing effective coping mechanisms, you can rebuild a sense of safety and trust in your environment.

Couples therapy in Massachusetts is a short term therapy designed to equip you both with the skills you need to address conflicts and challenges in your relationship. During sessions, your counselor may meet with you individually and together.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

The life skills you'll learn in rehab range from financial management to practicing healthy self care. They help you learn how to solve problems and make decisions, as well as develop healthy interpersonal relationships – all of which are key to successful recovery.

There is a strong link between nutrition and addiction. That's why drug rehab in Massachusetts includes nutrition therapy to teach you healthy eating habits that support addiction recovery. You'll learn what foods your body needs for healing and long term health.

Recreational therapy helps you as you recover from drug and alcohol addiction in Massachusetts by giving you structured activities to improve your physical and mental health. By participating in sports, creative arts, or nature activities, you have a positive outlet for emotions and stress that may have otherwise triggered alcohol or drug use. This helps to foster a healthy sober lifestyle.

If you find it difficult to put thoughts and feelings into words, creative arts therapy in Massachusetts might be a good treatment method for you. Through art, music, and other expressive activities, this therapy allows you to explore and convey thoughts and emotions in a safe, creative space.

Billing or medical assistance suck at answering the phone. My psychiatrist basically ghosted me for the better part of a year. And sure I could be on top of it but… I was not doing well.. my previous psychiatrist (not with Dana Behavioral) would reach out to see if I was doing okay. She never let me ghost her. Too bad she relocated. This place gets 2 stars because I actually like my therapist.

I'm sure if you're not dealing with anything big they could handle it but they are absolutely useless. If you have complex needs and if you have a panic attack, they will try to lock you in a hospital regardless of whether or not you are a danger to yourself because they don't want to deal with you

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

I changed my insurance told them, they called me to schedule appointment, I presumed they accept my insurance but still wanted a confirmation, they kept ignoring me every time I asked about my insurance, turned out they didn’t accept my insurance and I only got to know that after my bill was over a thousand dollars.sadly because I liked my doctor but thankfully I found a great practice where they actually hear you out. Be very careful with this place

Five stars for our psychiatric nurse practitioner, Sharon Curtin. She has been wonderful from day one and has prescribed with insight and care and helped our child become himself again. Loss of star for the company policy - it is difficult to communicate with the provider between visits due to the company changing policy and providers no longer having a direct extension. Also, there is zero grace if you miss an appointment. Even though we had made every single appointment for a year and a half, we were billed $100 for the first (unintentional) no-show. It's the written policy, but some grace would be appreciated with a track record of reliability. The staff that manages refills and medication questions is great. They are responsive and communicative. Overall, recommend, especially Sharon. Just make sure you don't miss your appointment ever, and ask all your questions when you're with your provider.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi Amanda - thank you for the feedback and we will take your thoughts into consideration! We appreciate you taking the time to let us know and we will pass your kind words along to Sharon.

- Dana Behavioral Health

I’ve been working with a licensed therapist and prescriber for a few years now, my experience with Dana Group has been smooth and responsive. The receptionists are very kind and approachable, whenever I go into the office, it’s clean, confidential and easily accessible. My therapist and I are a good fit and I can communicate with her easily. I don’t have any negatives to be honest, they are lenient with the cancellation policy as well, there a little bit a reasonable grace.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi, Diana. We really appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review, thank you so much!!
