The staff here are rude, lazy, and don't do their jobs right. They give me several injections without sterilizing and without a court order or reason. Oh and you can file with the new York state department of health if you were mistreated/neglected make sure to get the staff names and date if you can and you usually have to file within 180 days of the incident. An utter disgrace to mental health care. Disgusting dirty conditions not suitable for a human being. Lack of any patient care whatsoever. We were lucky if we got a rubber mattress to sleep on and a blanket. Not a place to go to get better because you always come out worse. As well, we were lucky enough to find a deck of cards to pass the time of day. A bunch of hypocrites who withheld proper nutrition medical care, access to exercise facilities and lack of fresh air and sunlight for three months. Not even a single piece of artwork on the wall. Additionally, no connection to what s happening in the outside world as there were no newspapers and only one television to share between all the patients on the floor. Unlike all the medical floors that received all the nice gifts from Russell Salvatore an others with large bank accounts. Also no access to legal representation whatsoever. Ridiculed and discriminated because of my handicap and sexual orientation And denied access to the proper tools to assist with my handicap. The only highlight of my three months today was the occasional time I was allowed to go Use the exercise facilities, get some fresh air and listen to some music I enjoyed. Never a good nights sleep due to games that the staff would play and patients that were really mentally ill screaming at all hours of the night. I was very lucky to even have a rubber mattress and a blanket as many nights I had to sleep on the floor? This place should be closed forever.Super Mike you are awesome, intelligent, very talented and a kind and caring person. I m thankful for the conversations we shared. And I fully understand what you did and I hope you re doing well. Through no fault to your own you have unfortunately acquired a terrible disease that could be the chemical or crossing circuits in your brain. You have no control of it and wish it would go away. Hopefully someday soon medical research will find a cureRussell it s time you pay up for your sins because I won t accept the answer no. You and other wealthy individuals that were there for all the other floors of this public hospital except for those of CPEP. floors. IT S TIME TO GET YOUR CHECKBOOKS OUT BECAUSE I HAVE LEGAL ACCESS TO ALL THE FILES, VIDEOS AND AUDIOS OF MY TERRIBLE THREE MONTHS STAYAs well as the Amherst police, in my case, you made a huge mistake in thinking that a minor domestic dispute required a visit by 3 Psychiatrist staff member And they also made a huge mistake. And both agencies need to train their staff better. As well as the ambulance company who almost dropped me on the floor. All three of your agencies should open your checking books as well. I m not thinking about only myself, but every patient that clearly did not belonged. And I have the documentation to back that up as well as documentation of all the witnesses to the terrible conditions we had to live with during the unnecessary and dark days w all endured. Once again to be perfectly clear to I am not really looking for myself for every patient that deserves much better. Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. This three- to four-week outpatient program enables patients to receive treatment five days a week for six hours each day and is designed for people experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms which impair functioning at home or at work.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients who enroll in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) are typically either in early recovery or are experiencing a crisis that increases their relapse risk. These programs promote clients' sustained sobriety through robust support, including multiple, extended care sessions per week. Intensive outpatient treatment often encompasses an array of services, including psychotherapy, recovery education, and evidence-based holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and meditation. Many outpatient rehabs also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients in rehab aftercare programs receive a customized portfolio of services designed to promote their sustained sobriety. These clients have completed high-level treatment, are typically exiting detox and/or intensive inpatient care and are reintegrating into their home, workplace, and community. Rehab aftercare services address addiction disease as a chronic condition requiring continuing care. Clients typically work with case managers and recovery teams to access necessary resources, such as peer coaching and 12 step program induction support.
12-step icon12-Step
Participants in 12 step programs maintain access to community-based peer support, which is the programs' primary treatment modality. 12 step recovery combines personal growth with paper coaching. Participants regularly attend group meetings, which are free, anonymous, open to the public, and available multiple times per day in most communities. They are also mentored by self-selected sponsors who guide them through the steps of recovery. Age and gender specific and other specialized formats are common.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in New York occurs when family members and friends lovingly confront someone with a substance use disorder. The goal of this confrontation is to motivate the person to seek treatment. Loved ones point out how the person's destructive behavior is affecting them in hopes that they will agree to get help. Most inpatient rehab facilities offer intervention services that can help families walk through this process step by step.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
The partial hospitalization program (PHP) level of care offers short-term, intensive rehab for individuals with acute symptoms that require focused management but don't require 24/7 care. PHP treatment provides structured programming (i.e. individual and group therapy) and allows you to return home in the evening. PHP treatment typically meets weekly for a minimum of 20 hours with the duration typically averaging 90 days. While PHP treatment cost can vary, it is often covered by most providers.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
For many different stages and therapies offered during addiction treatment, it's essential to offer 24-hour clinical care in New York. often involves medication treatment for drug or alcohol detox. The withdrawal symptoms experienced during detox can be dangerous, but having medical experts on-site around the clock means someone is always there to step in and provide emergency medical care when and if it is ever needed.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in New York is a short term therapeutic method used to treat substance use and mental health disorders. CBT typically lasts from five to 20 sessions, based on the individual's needs.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Introduced in 1983, motivational interviewing is a method to help clients commit to change. It's based on the philosophy that change is hard, and clients must explore their own options and come to their own conclusions rather than receive warnings or advice from the therapist.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

You can participate in couples therapy to focus on a specific problem in your relationship or for general strengthening of the relationship. This therapy aims to help you improve communication, address conflict, and grow in affection for one another.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

As you recover from addiction, eating the right foods will help you heal and build your health for long term sobriety. Nutrition therapy teaches you about the nutrition your body needs and how to eat the right foods to support your recovery.

In addiction treatment, recreational therapy focuses on engaging you in healthy activities to help reduce your cravings and improve your mental well being. You might engage in activities like cooking classes, hiking, group sports, or swimming as a constructive outlet for stress and emotions that help your recovery.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

They were very unprofessional and rude to me when I was ready to leave they held me for more time just to keep charging. The doctor that treated me had an obnoxious and condescending attitude. The whole time I was there, I felt intimidated and uncomfortable.

They way doctors treat the patients with mental health problems is despicable, and the environment is not welcoming at all. Doctors don't make the effort to make you feel stable and staff is rude. They didn't help at all it was a nightmare.

Unprofessional. Staff will laugh at you and be very matter of fact. A lot are immature and rude, and are in the wrong field. Both inpatient and outpatient care is lacking empathy big time. Only go to be stabilized if you’re having self harming thoughts and move on. They will impede your growth. The only exception is the IOP and Partial hospitalization program. Go, do the work, and move on.

The amount of times you were threatened to get a shot or go into the "closet" was way too much honestly and there were kids who weren't seen by a phycologist within 24 hours. Also the staff in my opinion was lazy and rude to the patients, and it only got a 1 star cause the chicken tenders and fries were the BEST.

This place is terrible. This is my third experience and the WORST. IF you are a family that LOVES and CARES this is NOT the PLACE for MENTALLY ILL. I want a FACILITY that HELPS with the PATIENTS BEST INTREST. ECMC medicates and THROWS THEM INTO SOCIETY HOPING to see that PATIENT BACK in a few weeks. I'm looking for a PERMANENT SOLUTION to MY SONS PSYCOSIS. THIS IS NOT the PLACE. Staff is SO RUDE ON FLOOR 4 ZONE 2. I HOPE THEY NEVER HAVE loved one that needs HELP CAUSE THEY REALLY DONT CARE ITS JUST A JOB FOR MOST. I WORK at the VA and I am one of those that REALLY CARE. MOST COLLECT a paycheck.

Outpatient clinic: Staff is very aggressive, angry and belittling to mental health patients. I felt almost harassed by the Dr. and nurses for even requiring minimal treatment. I felt like it was my fault I have severe anxiety and need medicine for it. Are non-psychiatry related patients forced to jump through hoop after hoop just to receive a 6 dollar medication? Because this place is disgusting for mental health support seekers. I must say my experience with the 4th floor unit was completely the opposite. The techs, nurses, doctors and staff members are caring, amazing angels on Earth who perform miracles everyday.
