This was one of the most unprofessional and upsetting experiences I’ve ever had. A nurse repeatedly spoke to me in a demeaning way, referring to me as “an alcoholic” and saying it was “her floor” and she could remove me at any time. When I waited for my medication, she became irritated, accused me of yelling, and continued to talk down to me despite me quietly reading in the TV room. Another nurse entered my room and tapping and slapping my leg without my consent, to wake me up, then misrepresented why I was upset. Overall, the environment felt unsafe and disrespectful, and I chose to leave for my own wellbeing. Also to add the nurse was on the phone talking about me early in the morning telling someone I was an alcoholic and this is her floors she can get me removed. I had to leave 7am in the morning without help to find treatment, it was unprofessional and degrading. hene she got on the phone to gossip about me it hurt me and she laughed. Karma will have its last laugh because she didn't have to get on the phone to gossip and photograph me. She told the other person look at her shirt. Just pure evil this place needs to be defunded and shut down. The nurse needs to lose her license for violating my rights while gossiping on the phone recording me.

I’ve been to many detoxes. This by far is the worst. It’s clear they r cutting corners everywhere to maintain their profits. Where do I begin? The TVs barely work. There is ONE remote for all the TVs and people are constantly looking for it, yelling “who got the remote” and when you actually find it, it’s cracked and held together by a rubber band. Some TVs aren’t even plugged into an output to a cable box. There is nothing in this place that would help anyone want to get sober. The food is terrible. The security measures are akin to a prison setting. Ure stuck on 1 floor with 6 breaks during the day where they escort u upstairs to a dining area where u can go out to a balcony to smoke. U can’t bring any food or beverages between the floors. So if u can’t hold the food down when Ure scheduled to eat, guess what, Ure not eating. There are 2 or 3 “snack breaks”. By snacks I mean either a baby size granola bar or a small bag of potato chips emptied into a paper plate for u. Or maybe a fruit cup. And u better eat it, otherwise, it’s going in the garbage. The main living quarters is 1 L shaped room with about 20 beds separated by curtains. For hydration there is a water cooler. U can make tea with sugar but that’s about as far as ur freedoms go. No self respecting person, who isn’t an inmate at a correctional facility can live like this, forget be reminded of what life is without substance abuse. I came on Wednesday and left of Friday. Before I left, 3 or 4 other people also AMAed. When I left, I’m pretty sure they had about 5 or 6 beds open up with people running out of this place like prison. I’m pretty sure the nurse said, “good” when I told her I’m leaving. They didn’t even have a plastic bag for me to put my clothes in. Like I said, they cut every corner they can. The nursing staff literally moves at a quarter pace of a regular human being. It’s like they enjoy making people wait for their meds, so they move at a snail’s pace. The only good people were Mike, the escort, and George downstairs who takes ur belongings. Everyone else sucks their teeth every time u ask them something or for something. A little bit of advice for the owners: if u don’t want ur place to have a revolving door of clients, try a little bit to make people remember that life without substance abuse is livable. When I left I literally felt suicidal because I’m convinced that I’ll never beat this disease and am looking towards a future of bouncing around between places like this for the rest of my life, until I die. I literally wanted to jump in front of a train on my way back home to Long Island. When I was outside I called Medicaid to try and schedule a ride but they told me the ride needs to be scheduled by the facility. These people could have helped me get home at least but they didn’t care to. On my way there, they sent an Uber to pick me up, because they thought they could make some money off my insurance. On the way back, they couldn’t care less what happened to me. Stay away from this place and let them go out of business like they know they r about to. Living in the United States in 2025 and making a $1000 a day off each client, ud think places like this would at least have crackers for malnourished people at the end of their rope. But no. Not even a laundry room. When I was there a homeless guy came in, in dirty clothes, smelling like he hasn’t showered in months. U would think these guys could have had a pair of sweat pants and a shirt to give him. Nope. One of the outgoing clients gave him her pants and someone gave him a shirt. Don’t places like this receive donations? Apparently not. I can see why. Terrible place. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna end my life after this experience. Hope someone falls on that smoking deck made of untreated wood and they end up with a law suit.

Id give them zero stars 🌟 if I could. This place is terrible. The place itself is ghetto and so is the staff. I had to beg them to give me MY OWN prescription medication multiple times while there and I wasnt the only one there that had to go through this. The food they give is days old; they give you tiny little towels that dont even cover your body; have ONE working TV remote(even though there's a bunch of other people there with you using the same remote - which leads to fighting over it.) The intake process is unprofessional and it becomes even worse with the staff. They are extremely rude and unprofessional. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. I was "escorted" off the property (I was going to leave regardless) but they felt it necessary to call the cops on me. The whole thing started because they wouldn't give me MY OWN meds that I brought in and wouldn't listen to me. Theyre extremely unprofessional and this is the WORST detox I've ever set foot in.

Accepted Insurance

Genesis Detox of Brooklyn works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient rehabs offer an intermediate level of care for clients who do not require the kind of intensive supervision and support an inpatient program typically provides. Many clients transition into outpatient care immediately after exiting inpatient treatment. Others enter outpatient programs upon completing detox. Some facilities offer ambulatory medical detox for clients who do not require hospitalization. Most outpatient rehabs offer a combination of services, including addiction counseling, life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Inpatient rehabs provide a space for clients to focus exclusively on their recovery while receiving intensive supervision and support. Inpatient treatment centers provide housing and food and most offer round-the-clock clinical care. Their primary treatment modalities typically consist of addiction counseling using various psychotherapeutic methods, including CBT, DBT, RBT, and motivational interviewing. Many rehabs also provide specialized services for clients with co-occurring addiction and mental illness. Recovery-focused life skills training and holistic therapies are other common services.

Medical detox involves weaning your body off of addictive substances in a medically supervised environment. If you've become dependent on alcohol and/or drugs, quitting on your own can be uncomfortable and even dangerous. In medically assisted detox, a team of licensed medical professionals will help manage potential withdrawal symptoms, ensuring that you're as safe and comfortable as possible. This process typically takes about 5-7 days, although the length will depend on your individual needs.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Family therapy helps individual members of the family unit navigate the complexities of addiction. Therapists provide you with the tools you need to improve communication skills and conflict resolution. When families work together, they can support their loved one's recovery and help to restore balance and harmony within the household.

Men and women receive emotional support from their peers during group therapy sessions. These are typically people who face the same struggles that you do. This exposure fosters a sense of camaraderie and community while reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness that often accompany addiction.

Men and women in New York undergoing one on one individual therapy for drug and alcohol addiction treatment will address the unique psychological and emotional aspects that are often associated with addiction triggers. Your therapist helps you build a relapse prevention plan and set achievable goals to improve your mental health and achieve long term sobriety.
