The Family Therapy support group at Magnolia Creek is an extra program. Since my adult chikd was inpatient at Magnolia Creek I have tried to be on the Thursday Zoom cal because I have learned so much from Taylor and the family members hat participate. I have participated in many great discussions concerning how we can best help our love one. Many have shared some great resources. I have learned so much from others who have had similar experiences.

Mag Creek alumni program is true evidence that treatment is not a one stop shop. It takes continual choices outside the walls of treatment to maintain lasting recovery. I am so grateful that Magnolia Creek continues to care for clients after discharge. I believe the alumni program is what sets MC apart. They allocate resources to host weekly support groups and a space for alumni to connect. I am now married and have a baby- a life I couldn t have imagined without recovery.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are designed for clients in early recovery and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Clients in IOP attend outpatient therapy sessions for a minimum of nine hours per week but clients may receive as many as 20 hours of IOP treatment weekly. Sessions generally occur in 3-5 hour blocks, in which time clients engage in some combination of medication assisted treatment (MAT), psychotherapy, recovery skills training, or complementary care.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in Alabama is an organized attempt to convince someone they have a substance use issue and that they need treatment. During an intervention, loved ones share their concerns about the person's substance use and encourage them to get help. A professional can provide guidance and support for this effort through intervention services, to help participants avoid missteps and increase the success of the intervention.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy in Alabama is to lessen the symptoms of certain mental health conditions, including substance abuse and co occurring mental health disorders. It is known as one of the most effective means of treatment for these conditions.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Proper nutrition increases comfort levels during detox and supports healing during drug rehab in Alabama. Nutrition therapy provides this crucial, balanced nourishment and helps you develop skills for long term health throughout recovery.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

I was hesitant to come here at first, but my time at Magnolia Creek was truly such a blessing! The clinical staff were by far the best part of my experience, with my primary therapist and family therapist being some of the most supportive and kind therapists I have met. They challenged my thoughts and feelings each week and I made a lot of progress in each session. The other staff were also great and very kind and compassionate. I will forever appreciate the tools and knowledge I gained from my time here and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for help to overcome their ED. I know it can be so scary to reach out for help, but Magnolia Creek will meet you where you are at and be with you every step of the journey!

I was recommended to Magnolia Creek by my therapist who has had other clients who have had overwhelmingly positive experiences there, and my time at mag creek has been the most uplifting and encouraging experience I could have asked for. I wouldn’t leave this review if I felt any different! I’ve been to treatment a couple of times before, but nothing has ever been as helpful as this. The staff are so kind, funny, and motivating; they really make you feel like part of a family there. The groups really teach you skills about how to move through life in recovery, and I deeply loved the science aspect we learned in nursing and nutrition groups. Music therapy takes the cake when it comes to my favorite groups though, with Anna’s beautiful voice echoing the journey of recovery every week. I found that I took something monumental from every therapy session I had and learned some coping skills that I’ll take with me forever. The campus is beautiful and feels like home, and most importantly you’re treated like an equal by staff, and your needs are taken seriously. That cannot be said about every treatment center and is a true testament of the huge heart of magnolia creek. I’d go back in an instant if I had to re-admit to treatment, but I truly feel like they prepared me with the skills to take my ED on in an out patient setting. I’m forever grateful for my time there. Cannot recommend this place enough.

I have been part of the alumni community for a few years. I believe I am one of the earlier members. When the previous alumni coordinator reached out to me I was in a dark place and she felt like a life line. I miss the previous coordinator, but I feel like Taylor has been killing it. She is nice, warm and always willing to talk. You can tell she really wants to help. Since joining the alumni group I attend the weekly support meetings as often as I can. Also there is a weekly meal support group that I used to attend but haven’t been able to go recently, hopefully soon I will be able to. I have developed friendships with the other women in the group and have been able to reach out for support and been available to others. Thank you Magnolia Creek for having this community available to us!

Magnolia Creek is truly an incredible place! I was provided with the support, guidance, and healing I desperately needed. The holistic approach they take – combining therapy, nutrition education, and wellness practices – allowed me to not only address my eating disorder but also build a stronger, healthier relationship with myself. The staff at Magnolia Creek works hard to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can truly focus on your recovery. The therapists are incredibly skilled, and the program offers individualized care that meets you exactly where you are in your recovery process. The peaceful, serene environment also contributes to the healing process, offering a perfect balance of comfort and privacy. I cannot recommend Magnolia Creek enough for anyone struggling with an eating disorder. The support I received here gave me the strength to face my challenges head-on, and I am forever grateful for the team that helped me get to a place of healing and hope. Thank you, Magnolia Creek, for giving me my life back!

Magnolia Creek’s alumni family support group has been a source of much encouragement as I continually learn to navigate supporting my loved one with an eating disorder. It’s a group where you can be open and honest with your emotions and experiences. It is so helpful to know I’m not alone and to have others who also understand the world of disordered eating is invaluable.

As a husband of someone who received treatment here I can honestly say I am very thankful for the staff that helped my wife in recovery. She quickly felt welcomed and was empowered in her recovery. Their Alumni and Family program continues the support after discharge. I have learned a great deal through the weekly virtual meetings and I know my wife also appreciates I have gained knowledge through the experience of others how to best support and validate her. It is without a doubt that receiving treatment and continued therapy at Magnolia Creek our marriage has benefitted.

In August 2024, my 14-year-old daughter was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, restricting type, severe. After two months of trying to do everything possible to help her recover in a home-based treatment, the doctors and therapists who treated her recommended that we take her to Magnolia Creek Treatment Center for Eating Disorders. I honestly tell you that I had serious doubts about taking my daughter to be admitted. But after I decided to listen to the doctors' recommendations, and we took her in mid-October 2024. The first few days were difficult because my daughter did not want to stay, but after a week we noticed the change in her attitude. After 3 months my daughter was discharged to continue her treatment in PHP mode. During those three months at the Magnolia center, I only have expressions of gratitude for all the staff who work there. The RCS, the nurses, therapists, staff in general. Everyone treated her wonderfully and helped my daughter recover physically and mentally so she could continue her treatment at home. My daughter came to love all the staff at Magnolia center and the girls who were in treatment with her became like family to her. I want to highlight the great work of the therapists in getting my daughter, who is very stubborn by the way, to the point of wanting to accept getting rid of the eating disorder. This is easy to say, but it is a great achievement. Once again, I have nothing, but gratitude and I highly recommend this center and its staff.
