About McCurtain Memorial Hospital

In Idabel, Oklahoma, near natural attractions such as Beavers Bend State Park and Broken Bow Lake, is McCurtain Memorial Hospital. It offers behavioral health and addiction treatment services to adults. They provide access to essential medications needed in the recovery from substance abuse addiction alongside crisis stabilization services.

Easily Accessible Medication Assistance

It’s no secret that some individuals require medication assistance when recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. Unfortunately, there are times when access to these lifesaving medications is limited. At the McCurtain Memorial Hospital, what I, along with many others, appreciate is that the center is a proud participant in the 340B program.

This program is a government initiative that helps healthcare institutions, like this one, assist patients in affording prescription drugs used to aid in recovery. If you are granted access to this federal program, you’ll receive discounted prescription medication of up to 60% off at qualifying pharmacies. The Hospital’s team can also help guide you through the process.

Emergency Assistance When Needed

I found it especially interesting to learn that this Hospital provides expert addiction and psychiatric medicine services for those experiencing a behavioral health emergency. If you ever find yourself in a predicament where you need immediate assistance, you can get it by visiting the emergency room at this Hospital.

If you can’t get to the Hospital, virtual consultations with board-certified psychiatrists, behavioral clinicians and addiction specialists are available weekdays during working hours through the OSU Virtual Care program. Additionally, once care is given and you are stabilized, the Hospital will help you develop a long-term treatment plan.

The last time I went to this hospital was February of 2023. While there, I felt I was wasting my time and got nowhere. Well, fast forward to 2 weeks ago and I get a phone claim from debt collection for a medical bill from 02/23. Because it was so far in the past, insurance won’t cover it and I’ve never even heard of this bill up until now! After speaking with my insurance for HOURS, they discovered they PAID this bill (1488 dollars) a month after my visit! The hospital recreated the bill, never sent to me, and just sent to collections! This should be fraud and I will be contacting the BBB regarding it. Get your accounting department fixed so crap like this doesn’t happen. You’re screwing with people’s lives. UPDATE - I was called by a Heather H. Who is the revenue cycle director for the hospital. I had to literally ask “can I speak now please” as she over yelled me and would hardly let me get a sentence in. Professionalism allows the customer to speak without you continually interrupting them. There was zero ownership and complete deflection - blaming the provider instead of apologizing. She continued to blame the doctor even though the collection bill stated I owed money to “McCurtain Memorial Hospital”. She made the situation worse.

My friend was gushing blood and they didn’t offer a wheelchair, no one showed urgency, no one acted professionally… we were there for an hour and a half and got nothing out of it.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

24-hour clinical care in Oklahoma is highly recommended for those beginning recovery. As your body detoxes, withdrawal from substances such as alcohol, benzos, and opiates can cause severe physical symptoms. Health risks include seizures, hallucinations, heart palpitations, and severe dehydration. A clinical setting offers 24/7 medical care to treat these symptoms and make the detox process more comfortable.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy provides you with a safe and supportive environment in which you can confront and address the emotional and physical impacts of traumatic events. Your therapist helps you understand your emotional and physical responses and develop healthier coping skills, which lowers your anxiety level and provides you with greater self confidence.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Using recreational therapy in Oklahoma within a drug and alcohol addiction treatment program helps you find joy and purpose within healthy activities. These could include gardening, group games, team sports, and swimming. These activities promote relaxation and social interaction, which are crucial to sustain long term recovery.

So as a mother I came to this hospital with high hopes that they would help my child. I understand that idabel isn’t big or fancy, but I believe that my child should have been treated better than he was. Upon arrival I was anxious due to my kid being sick. They asked me questions like usual, then asked ME the mother how to check his vitals even though as a nurse you should know that. That was just the beginning. They didn’t check my son’s temperature, his weight, his height, or literally anything other than his blood pressure. I was sitting there with my 6 week old child on the other side of a curtain blocking us from a family of 5 who were sick and throwing up. I looked past that because it’s a hospital. You can’t expect not to be around sickness. As the doctor came in and was asking me questions, he would interrupt me rather than allowing me to answer. That was frustrating. Then, when I got to the point of why I was there he basically told me I waited for that amount of time for nothing. Stating that there was nothing they could do. Then left me sitting for another 20-30 minutes just waiting for paperwork. The way I view it, as a mother I would have gotten CPS called on me for not seeking proper medical attention for my son who was sick. But I take my kid and seek medical attention and I don’t receive the help I need. I’m sorry, but I believe idabel hospital needs to fix their issues. Idabel hospital, you have just made one very pissed off momma.

Response from the owner
We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience at our facility. Your concerns as a mother and advocate for your child are completely valid, and it’s deeply troubling to know that we fell short in providing the level of care and respect you and your baby deserved.

We take all feedback very seriously and are committed to continually improving the care we provide to every patient. If you are willing, we encourage you to submit a formal complaint through our website at https://www.mmhok.net/complaints. This will allow our Chief Compliance Officer to fully investigate what occurred and take appropriate steps to ensure such a situation is addressed and prevented in the future.

We sincerely appreciate you bringing this to our attention, and we hope to earn back your trust.

Consider your lunch plans elevated! The McCurtain Memorial Dietary Department is a hidden gem when it comes to daily specials. They consistently offer generous portions and an amazing variety of foods throughout the week. And don't even get me started on the desserts – think tasty fried pies and cakes, all incredibly affordable. If you're ready to shake up your lunch routine with a place that hits all the right notes, give them a visit!

My wife and I are from Texas. We were visiting Oklahoma on vacation when my wife became ill. I drove her to McCurtain Memorial Hospital. We received the most attentive care from the friendliest staff I could have hoped for. They were genuinely kind and considerate. The hospital was clean and modern in appearance. The chaplain stopped in and prayed with us. I am truly grateful for the authentic care and compassion of this ER Team.

Response from the owner
Thank you so much Kenneth for taking the time to leave a review. It truly means the world to us to read, and be able to pass the kind words to our team. We hope your wife has continued healing!

I have recently spent 2 different stays 1 for 5 days and 1 for 15 days everyone was so professional and checked on me hour and came every 4 hours for treatment on both stays the only reason for 4 stars and not 5 stars is the construction and some of the floors were a little dirty and I understand the hospital has to continue to operate with the construction now the rooms were clean just the noise and construction areas , and the hot water was a little funny .

Response from the owner
Hi Mr. Newman, thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re grateful for your kind words about our staff’s professionalism and the care you received during both of your stays.

We truly understand how the ongoing construction and related noise can be an inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience as we work to improve our facility. Your feedback about the floors and hot water is also noted and will be shared with our team so we can continue to make improvements.

We hope you’re feeling better, and we sincerely thank you for trusting us with your care.

Outrageously priced. $1,015 to look at a poison ivy rash and give one shot. Insane!

Response from the owner
Hi Brynn, we're very sorry to just now be seeing your review. We understand your concerns regarding the bill and would be happy to speak with you directly about it. Please feel free to call and ask to speak with one of our business office employees who can review the charges with you.

For future needs, we want to let you know that we do have an urgent care clinic available. Visiting urgent care for issues like poison ivy is a more cost-effective option and does not include the emergency room fee. We appreciate your feedback and hope we can assist you in the future!

Outrageously priced for what you get from the ER. Our visit was less than 30 minutes. All we needed was an antibiotic and everywhere else was closed due to the holiday. We saw the doctor for less than 3 minutes—walked in and said “yep, needs an antibiotic,” and walked out. Didn’t ask if we had any questions or concerns. The front desk personnel and nurse were friendly as well as the billing office, but I just can’t believe what they charged us. It was $1,700. $1,000 of that was to the doctor that we saw for all of three minutes. We have had a similar visit to OU children’s and received a $258 bill for the exact same care. Hospitals like this are absolutely disgusting predators and a major part of what is wrong with American healthcare.

Response from the owner
We sincerely apologize for your experience and understand your concerns regarding pricing. Our Chief Compliance Officer has been attempting to reach out to you, but we have been unable to locate a recent visit under your name. If you would like to speak directly with our CCO, we encourage you to submit an official complaint at https://form.jotform.com/222784379248166, and we will promptly address your concerns.

We appreciate your feedback and regret that your visit did not meet your expectations. Please know that we are committed to providing quality care and transparency in our services.

The worst hospital. If you need serious medical attention DO NOT GO HERE. No idea how there aren’t lawsuits on lawsuits. Came here for abdominal pain, as I have had ovarian cysts rupture before and they passed it off as a UTI even after running tests. Sent me home with no pain medication. Went to another doctor the next day and sure enough it was a ruptured cyst. This is the worst hospital you can ever go to ! Have also had a friend die from internal bleeding here and instead of sending him somewhere else let him die. I know so many locals to mccurtain county who have had bad experiences here. DO NOT GO

Response from the owner
Rissa,

We sincerely apologize for your experience and want to assure you that we take your concerns very seriously. Providing quality care to our patients is our top priority, and we are deeply sorry that you left feeling unheard and without the care you needed.

We will be escalating your concerns to our Chief Compliance Officer for further review. If you are willing, we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly to gather more details and address your concerns appropriately.
