This juvenile detention center will lock your 3 year old in a padded closet if they don't follow the rules. When their tactics fail to show improvement and in fact cause other emotional issues... the staff will gaslight you & flat out say that your parenting is the actual cause. To be fair, the psychologist we had all our issues with is no longer employed there. She was flat out nasty, accusatory & condescending. She was just abruptly gone one day, so I assume she was fired. I can't imagine we were the only parents who had a terrible experience with her. I'm just so sorry that I put my child through this ordeal. I'll never recommend this place.

Dear Mr Fortner: We are truly sorry to hear that you left with such a painful impression of our program. At Positive Leaps, the well-being and safety of children is always our top priority. For clarity, we do not have padded rooms or closets, and children are never locked in or left alone. All children remain within sight and reach of our trained staff at all times, and our environment is designed to be supportive, not punitive—more like a structured daycare setting than anything resembling a detention center.

We also want to assure you that parenting is never viewed as the “cause” of a child’s challenges. Instead, our approach is to partner closely with families to find strategies that best support each child’s individual needs and help reduce stress for parents as well.

While we do not employ psychologists, we understand from your review that you had a negative experience with a former staff member. We are very sorry if you ever felt unheard or disrespected during your time with us, as that does not reflect the values or standards we hold ourselves to. We encourage any parent who has concerns to reach out directly so we can listen and continue improving the care we provide.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Even though this was difficult feedback, we take it seriously and will use it to make sure families always feel safe, respected, and supported.

Accepted Insurance

Positive Leaps works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services help family members prepare for a drug intervention in Ohio. During an intervention, family members typically read letters they have prepared that explain how the individual's substance abuse has affected their lives and relationships. Each family member also explains what they will do if the individual does not agree to get treatment. An intervention specialist offers support to guide this discussion and makes appropriate treatment recommendations.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Designed for individuals with moderate to severe addictions, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) provides a more intensive form of outpatient therapy. PHP treatment can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option after being discharged from a hospital or residential program. A partial hospitalization program typically requires a minimum of 20 hours weekly for an average of 90 days. Depending on your care plan, PHPs can include relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy services.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Recreational therapy supports recovery from drug and alcohol addiction by providing you with enjoyable activities that improve your physical and mental health. When you engage in sports, creative arts, and nature excursions, it helps reduce your cravings and stress levels while building a supportive community of peers who can help promote your long term sobriety.

Creative arts therapy can be an effective tool for recovery. It can relieve depression and anxiety and help you feel more in control of your life. Through creative expression, it can help you explore difficult emotions and process challenging situations.

No leadership skills, lack of communication among the staff. If it is wrong what I am doing with my kid then teach me properly when the children aren’t in front because then they get confused with my authority.

As a parent we all know that the first few years of life are critical for a child s future achievement,as a lucky parent I can t express enough how helpful Positive Leaps with their skilled professionals and programs ensure our child to get developmentally ,socially, and emotionally healthy and empower us parents to support our child behavior issues and independence development on his own. They are helping children begin life socially and emotionally ready to grow and thrive. They show a lot of love, respect and compassion for the kiddos and keep us parents always informed and involved in their progress. They offer a great Family support with therapy weekly sessions. The discipline method if consistent used at home as well is extremely effective! The model significantly improves parent-child interactions, It provides parents with the knowledge and resources to build school readiness where it starts, they help children, learn positive skills and behaviors , and feel confident and safe.Patience paid off our child behavior has been improved so much! This week was our child last day at the center and the whole staff prepared a special farewell for our little one!It was exciting! We are going to miss our family sessions with Ms.Katherine Wilkins who helped us so much with coping skills and learning mechanisms that are essential for our child to regulate his big feelings and emotions, with her guidance and counseling sessions I had learned to help us to navigate a difficult stage of our lives and got us educated on how to be proactive and address some behaviors and concerns we had that no longer even exist.Aleluia ! From the enrollment staff through the teachers and therapist we are beyond grateful to the whole team! We are beyond Grateful!

Do not send your child here EVER. I went here around the age of 6 for anger issues and outbursts, the staff does not try to understand the kids. It did help with my outbursts for about a year but that was only because I was terrified to be sent back. I saw others talking about this too in reveiws but the "safe rooms" are not "safe" children get locked in there during outbursts and it does not help with calming down, there are kids screaming in there and noone helps them regulate, there were times where I was left in there for literal Hours without lunch, that room genuinely truamatized me and I still get flashbacks at the age of 15. The therapist I had was extremely rude and scary to me as a child. I did drive right since I lived very far away and would leave when it was still dark out and not get home till the sun was down again. The drivers were incredibly mean and had literal children giving them the directions since half the time they did not know where they were going. I was kept there with scarlett fever all day until it was dark out because they didnt call my mom until the day was over and it was obvious I was VERY sick. Long story short I BEG YOU do NOT EVER send your kids here the staff is rude and irrisponsible. Only staff member that was ever good with children was ms emily props to her for making that time somewhat enjoyable.

Response from the owner
Thank you for reaching out and please know that this is absolutely not reflective of the Positive Leaps that exists today. I am so sorry for that experience and what you went through. We are not the same business or therapy model today, as the ownership changes and the entire practice has changed in the last 16 months. As a business trying to do right by our patients and deliver compassionate, excellent care, we do not stand for any of the issues you mentioned. The entire staff today is different and we as the new owners have no idea what it was like before since that was almost 9 years ago. We invite you to come tour the facility - you will immediately see how different it is from what you described! We wish you the best, and hope you will consider taking this review down as we had nothing to do with that model and it is now a completely different business. Contact us at 513-777-2428 anytime!
