About St. Gregory Recovery Center

St. Gregory Recovery Center is an addiction and mental health facility in Bayard, Iowa. Adults can access medical detox, residential care, and outpatient programs to reach recovery. With one of the most advanced expert-backed programs nationwide, their treatment approach is solely based on research and science.

One thing that stands out to me about them is their empowerment-based treatment approach. Instead of teaching you how not to use substances, they focus on the underlying causes of your addiction and how to address them. Their program aims to help you reach stabilization, change your thinking, develop new habits, retrain your brain, and strengthen your body. It utilizes a unique treatment approach with behavior modification training, life-skills exercises, and cognitive behavior therapy. You can incorporate spirituality, religion, health, and wellness into your treatment plan as you see fit.

Another thing I found interesting about them is they don’t offer 12 Step programming. Many treatment programs use 12 Step groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, to supplement expert-backed therapeutic interventions. A fundamental of the 12 Step philosophy is relinquishing control over your addiction to a higher power. But, they don’t believe people are powerless over their addiction They instead provide their distinctive treatment curriculum to help you overcome addiction for good without lifelong care.

St gregorys saved my life. This facility and the staff are all amazing. I found out alot about myself while i was there.I made the decision to go on my own but i know god had a hand in it. I accepted god when i was there. Jack Dewitt is an amazing councilor if your truly ready to kick you addiction this is the place to do it. I was there for 35 days the whole month of December plus a few days. I hit i milestone this past week of 4 months completely sober. This facility works if you work the program and YOU WANT IT. I gave my testimony of my story at our church last Sunday and i had several people come up to me and ask me to help them and told me how strong i was to do that. I owe my life to St Gregory. St Greg s saved my life. I went there on the verge of suicide from depression and anxiety treated with alcohol. I am an alcoholic. The comprehensive program offered there helped me to heal my mind, body and spirit focusing on my spirituality, exercise, diet, meditation and CBT.I encourage you to really dive into each of these areas while there. I am 156 days sober today. I have been using a combination of therapy, sober apps, online and in-person AA. I ve been working out 5 days a week- outside if possible, eating better, staying hydrated, getting enough rest and relying on my Higher Power to lead me, and I haven t had a single true craving for alcohol since I left treatment. It has truly been a miracle.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehab programs are designed to support clients who are exiting inpatient treatment and for those who prefer to remain in their own homes during active recovery. Clients in outpatient care typically integrate treatment into their ordinary daily routine, including work and school schedules. Evening, night, and weekend therapy sessions, recovery training courses, and other outpatient services are widely available to accommodate clients' needs. Many outpatient rehabs also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT), including medication induction and maintenance.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients in inpatient rehab reside at the treatment facility for the duration of the program, which may range from two weeks to more than 18 months, depending on unique needs and the program's design. Inpatient treatment typically consists of extensive addiction counseling, which may include CBT, DBT, RBT, and motivational interviewing. Clients may also engage in recovery-focused life skills training and/or evidence-based complementary therapies, such as massage, meditation, and experiential therapy.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) offer high-level care for clients in early recovery or who are at an increased risk of relapse. Clients may also enroll in an IOP immediately following detox, enabling them to continue to work and to live at home. Clients attend multiple outpatient treatment sessions for a minimum of nine hours per week. Many intensive outpatient rehabs provide a variety of services, including psychotherapy, recovery education, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs support clients' reintegration into their home, workplace, and community following inpatient and residential treatment. They also promote long-term recovery for clients who may no longer be receiving outpatient treatment. Rehab aftercare services encompass a wide range of modalities and often include various medical, mental health, and social service programs. Case managers and care teams develop clients' customized service plans based on the client's evolving needs and recovery goals.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Commonly referred to as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term, intensive rehab option that provides structured treatment for those who don't require 24-hour care. PHP treatment can also be used as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a "step-down" option. Insurance coverage for PHP treatment varies. Typically, PHP treatment requires a minimum of 20 hours a week and lasts an average of 90 days. PHP treatment often includes relapse prevention strategies, medication management, individual and group therapy, and other behavioral therapy interventions.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
In the addiction treatment process, detox is typically the initial stage of recovery, and it involves 24-hour clinical care in Iowa. During this process, you receive constant medical supervision as harmful substances are purged from your body. Medical staff may prescribe medications to treat withdrawal symptoms and allow you to safely and comfortably break free from physical dependence on the substance.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Iowa is available in many formats. A variety of inpatient and outpatient options provide programs that are tailored to individual needs, making recovery possible for everyone.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavior therapy—consistently shown to be the most effective therapeutic method for treatment of substance abuse—shows you how to change your responses to these deeply rooted thought processes. At St. Gregory’s Retreat Centers, you’ll learn to better understand stress and anxiety, and you’ll become equipped to handle difficult emotional situations without the use of drugs or alcohol.

Dialectical behavior therapy helps you learn healthier ways to cope with your emotions and life stressors. The goal is to find a balance between acceptance of who you are and the advantages of making changes. You will work with your therapist to strike this balance and develop skills for better emotional regulation.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

People in substance use disorder treatment in Iowa find group therapy helps them benefit from shared experiences, gain new insights into the triggers of addiction, and learn new coping strategies. Group therapy promotes accountability and helps raise your motivation to seek sobriety and achieve sustainable recovery.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

During motivational interviewing in Iowa, the client and therapist collaborate to identify any discrepancies in the client's current situation and future goals. By asking open ended questions and using reflective listening skills, the therapist encourages the client to reach their own conclusions and make a commitment to any needed changes in their life.

During family therapy in Iowa, therapists focus on the collective healing of all members of the family unit who were impacted by addiction. Therapists guide families in understanding the effect addiction has and develop healthy communication practices. By working together, families can help support their loved ones recovery.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Addiction recovery works best with recreational therapy activities that improve your physical health and provide emotional support. This holistic approach improves your overall physical and mental health, creates a sense of community, and helps reduce your cravings. Each of these factors is necessary to foster long term sobriety.

I went to St. Greg's when I was at my lowest. I was dealing with legal issues and needed to get sober for good. I went to St. Greg's voluntarily and it was the BEST choice I have ever made. I met so may good people there. They helped me through the darkest time in my life. They made me feel at home and worthy to keep going through life. I was to the point where I did not care what happened to me. St. Greg's was the first stop in my recovery journey and I couldn't be happier. They were there for me before I got there, when I got there, and even to this day they are still there for me. I was in St. Greg's in the fall of 2023. They are still working with me to this day, making sure I am ok and that I have support. I still talk to some of the people I met while in treatment to this day and St. Greg's has made it easy to keep a support circle. We are all here for each other. It's family. And it is the best choice I ever made to go there. I hope you see this as a sign that if you are looking for somewhere to turn, somewhere to go to get support, this is the place.

I recently completed the Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program (IOP) through St. Gregory’s Recovery Center, and it has been a transformative experience. From the moment I joined, I felt welcomed and supported by the compassionate and knowledgeable staff. The program is very well structured, offering a perfect balance of therapy, education, support, and spirituality. St. Gregory’s approach addresses not just the addiction, but underlying issues leading to significant personal growth. They provided me with the tools and strategies needed to overcome my addiction and maintain long-term sobriety. Overall I am immensely grateful for the positive impact St. Gregory’s has had on my life. The IOP has given me a new lease on life, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking help for addiction. Thank you St. Gregory’s for helping me reclaim my life!

I'm an alcoholic and I've entered 8 different treatment centers, both in patient and out patient to seek help for my addiction. My time at St Gregory was my best experience in getting the treatment i so desperately needed. Everything is first class, most importantly though the staff at St Gregory. The staff truly cares about your well being and the care that you get healthy. You are not just another number as I've experienced in my previous relapses and following help. If you are ready to get back control of your life, look no further than St Gregory. AP

I just left St. Gregory's Recovery Center this month and was admitted for 28 days. I can confidently say it was beneficial and crucial to my recovery journey. Most staff are great as they're easy to get along with and are truly there to help with your recovery and other issues that may arise. I didn't give it 5 stars as no place is perfect, but from my experience it was great and I would recommend it to anyone struggling with substance abuse.

Definitely DO NOT recommend this facility. Save your money and time and skip this treatment facility. Go right to The Abbey Center IA Bettendorf Iowa. We can’t recommend them enough. They told us to bring 30 days worth of meds (on the packing list it bring) and then turned around and got their own supply costing us over $300 in medicine. No one will call back on the matter. While at the facility my husband was told he would be receiving a new medication. It took over 4 days to get said medication. When I emailed the facility to kindly ask about it. They told my husband it was unacceptable and treated him like crap his remaining time there. Let’s not forget about the ankle monitor they slap on you without disclosing any of that before you arrive at the facility. My husband was not provided the care they basically talked up to get our money and get him there. The program was nothing like they told us it was on the phone. This place was a joke.
