About Stone Residence
Located in a commercial corner of Fall River, Massachusetts, Stone Residence is a residential facility with 23 rooms for men 18 and over with a history of chronic homelessness and a diagnosis of co-occurring mental health and substance use issues. It’s part of the Steppingstone network and is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to provide a variety of goal oriented rehabilitation services for those with an opioid use disorder.
Connection With Outside Resources
Through individual, group, and family counseling, they offer assistance with developing daily living and interpersonal skills as you continue on your recovery journey. You can partake in 12 Steps and be referred to medication assisted treatment (MAT) if need be.
Case management is provided, helping residents to develop their individualized treatment Plan (ITP) and to connect with outside resources. This may include access to substance use treatment programs, employment training and placement assistance, and 24 hour crisis intervention services.

Participation in self help and peer groups is encouraged, especially 12 Step meetings and other Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) related activities. There are also structured recreational activities for residents to take part in.
In addition to several local museums and a wide range of Portuguese cuisine, the city boasts acres of waterfront and nature trails in its Heritage State Park, the Freetown-Fall River State Forest, and the Copicut Woods. The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.
