I have seen Adult & Teen Challenge change lives first hand! A little over 10 years ago my brother went through the program. He has been clean since then, owns his own business, built a beautiful and added 4 kids into their family since. My bother went through alot of programs and this is the only one that he ever stayed sober from. When my bother was in the program I met my now husband of 7 years. We have both stayed connected with the ministry through the years on the volunteer committee helping out where ever we could! We love being able to give back to a program that not only saved my brothers life but also led us together! My husband has not only stayed clean since he left the program but he is also has been able to restore alot of lost relationships since graduating which we give all praise to God for. We also offer help to anyone that is looking to be set free from addiction to get into to ATC! My cousin just also recently went through the program. Graduated last winter. He is now out on his own working and staying sober.

I walked through the doors of this program in 2013 homeless, in withdrawal, hungry, and empty inside after battling addiction for 15 years. Nothing worked. Methodone clinics, suboxone, 30-day rehabs, AA, NA, getting a job, going back to school, incarceration, overdosing, the threat of amputation, moving to a different location...none of it. This place offered an opportunity to change my life. After graduating in 2014, I worked here for another 6 years. Over the last 12 years, I've completed 2 degrees, including an undergraduate degree ATC allowed me to obtain while working there, married my wife and had a child, restored relationships with my family who'd done all they could but had had enough after 15 years of destruction, and remained abstinent from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol. Was it easy? No...unequivocally the hardest thing I've ever done. What longterm treatment offered was the time and place to address issues, experience the ups and downs in an environment that has support beyond anything I've ever known, and also build my relationship with God. Medical school was easier, surgical training has been easier, 28-hour days spent in the hospital and operating room are easier...marriage is...shoot even marriage is easier than Teen Challenge, but that's only because I've been equipped with everything I need to endure life's challenges - no matter what they are! Thank you for giving me another chance at life.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. They recommend one of the five following exit plans: college, trade schools, employment and careers, ministry and missions, or TCNE & NJ apprentice program.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. The program has five phases and each phase has a purpose with certain goals for the student, a customized curriculum, with biblical and life changing principles.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Treatment provided at drug rehab in New Hampshire prepares individuals to handle life stressors without using substances. Participants get the tools and support they need to maintain lifelong recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety. A life coach plays a crucial role in the last phase of the program to help with successfully launching their students back into society.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I personally know two individuals who have gone through the ATC program. Although I wish their lives had never followed the path that brought them to addiction, I'm glad they found and graduated the program. Both are amazing individuals who have turned their lives around thanks to ATC. I'm not sure either would be here today if it were not for the program. Every year I attend their golf tournament. It's always a great time (regardless of how the weather behaves), but the highlight is the post-golf ceremony. You hear incredibly inspirational and humble stories of individuals that have gone through the program, how they came to the point in life where they needed ATC, and how the program's structure, discipline, and spirituality have enabled their path to recovery. Individuals come out of the program with a sense of purpose, hope, discipline, and skills needed to continue the life post ATC.

I want to leave an honest review as a wife whose husband went and completed the adult/teen challenge program 3 years ago. First of all this program is 100% the persons choice of how far they want to grow in this program. It’s a program that is absolutely God centered. It is a discipleship and recovery program for men and yes it is designed very strictly which was wonderful for my husband because it gave him the necessary boundaries that he could not set for himself on his own, something many addicts struggle with in life. The director of this program and his wife have been through the program themselves and understand the process and how hard it is to go through it as a family. They became like family to us. I was so angry and broken when my husband went away and it was so hard not seeing him for those first 30 days. The staff there were an amazing support to me and were in my corner which was what I needed at that time. The time away from us helped my husband realize how much he really loved his life, and how much he did not want to lose it or throw it away anymore.Through the long process of being away, learning how loved he is by God and having such a hard time of surrendering all of his comforts, he was radically healed and changed during that time. My favorite time during his stay there was family ministry time when we all got together- all the families around a table with all the residents and took turns sharing our hearts. Having those connections were so important at that time for all of us. It was difficult to commit to 12 months but I am so glad we did. He is 4 years clean in Dec. 2025 and I am so grateful for the love and support from Hector, Alex and Carmen especially. They literally have give up almost all of their time and so much of their lives to run this program and all for the support of the families and residents. I would recommend going. It will be hard but if you commit, surrender and believe and let God work- you can see amazing transformation 🩷🩷

Going to this program changed and saved my life. Yes it’s a hard program but the rewards that come from it will last the rest of your life if you’re willing to be obedient, discipline, and follow what the good Lord has for you! If you’re willing to do anything to better your life this place will help you set a good foundation for the rest of your life!

Adult & Teen Challenge NH is an incredible ministry that God used to save my husband’s life and our family. Their program provides hope, structure, and encouragement, but most importantly, it points people back to Christ. God is the one who restores — Adult & Teen Challenge simply walks alongside in that process. The team here is dedicated and works hard. I will always be grateful for the impact this place has had on our lives.

Teen Challenge has truly changed our lives. Their family ministry (like weekly group therapy) was such a blessing—the Spirit always moved in those times. Hector also met with Nate and me for monthly marriage counseling, which was absolutely instrumental for us. From the very beginning, they treated us like family. The program is not easy, but that’s the point—most things worth having are difficult to obtain. Watching Nate walk through it, I actually found myself envious. I wanted to live in a house where I could just focus on God and healing my inner wounds 24/7! I even miss that DIFFICULT season of our lives, because I can see now how much fruit came from it. As Scripture says, all discipline is painful at the moment, but in time it produces such good. That’s exactly what Teen Challenge helped us experience. I cannot recommend them enough.

I graduated from this program. It helped me a lot. I grew a lot under the discipleship of Hector and Alex. They helped me to identify where I needed to grow, and challenged me to be perseverant even under suffering. Years after I graduated, Alex reached out to me to apologize for something years before. This is true leadership. I recommend everyone go here who needs to.
