About Mustard Seed Inn

The Mustard Seed Inn in Saint Petersburg, Florida, is a drug and alcohol rehab for adults specializing in dual diagnosis care and transitional support for clients experiencing homelessness. They offer inpatient care, sober living programs, and aftercare support. Dedicated programs for young adults, seniors, and veterans are available. Primary treatment modalities include addiction counseling.

The Mustard Seed Inn is an addiction recovery program for adults in Saint Petersburg, Florida, specializing in the treatment of clients experiencing substance dependency, alcoholism and homelessness. They offer dedicated programs for young adults, seniors, veterans, and persons with co-occurring mental health disorders. Inpatient, sober living, and aftercare services are provided, and their primary treatment modalities include individual, group, and family therapy combined with recovery focused life skills training.

Because the majority of persons experiencing addiction will also be diagnosed with a co-occurring mental health disorder, the Mustard Seed Inn prioritizes mental healthcare as a cornerstone of sustained recovery. Mental health assessments, diagnosis, and treatment by licensed mental health professionals are provided.

The inpatient program at The Mustard Seed Inn is designed to enable clients to focus on their recovery in a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment. While in inpatient care, clients attend multiple therapy sessions daily. They also receive intensive training in recovery related topics, including coping, stress and anger management, trauma resolution, self care, nutrition and wellness, and relapse prevention.

Because the Mustard Seed Inn serves adults in recovery who are experiencing homelessness, their sober living program was created to serve the dual purpose of providing short term housing while enabling clients to continue to work on their sobriety. Their sober living programs offer a structured and supportive environment as clients cultivate the skills they need to reenter the community and maintain their sobriety. These may include continuing addiction education, vocational and educational training, and courses in parenting, financial and household management, and related skills.

The Mustard Seed Inn promotes sustained sobriety and successful community reintegration through a full suite of aftercare services. Depending on the client’s individual needs, this may include food and housing assistance, employment services, medical and mental healthcare referrals, 12 step program induction support, peer coaching, and social services referrals.

It was the worst experience you can ever have. Bathrooms had cockroaches all over the place at night. Bill the counselor is the worst he doesn t care about anything but trying for you to hate him. They want you to pay $800/month but you share the room with 3 other people and you re lucky if they are clean. They want you to attend 4 meetings a week but when you re trying to save for your own place it is impossible to pay them $800/month and save for your own place. They will kick you out so quick for not attending meetings and you will be on the street and they don t care. That s why I wouldn t EVER recommend this place to anyone.

The Mustard Seen Inn has a long and venerated history. The Inn opened on April 15, 1987 at 505 Sixth Street South, St. Petersburg, in an old, two story firetrap of a building. The founder, Carole Atkinson, performed her duties from a wheelchair, typically working 16 hour days. Carole and a core group of passionate volunteers including Randy (Indiana), Donald (local) and Valerie (Palm Harbor) hustled each day to keep the doors open and the residents fed. Carole was the definition of resourceful. We collected dated foodstuffs, day old bread and expiring baked goods daily from Publix. Blankets, beds, mattresses, pot, pans, anything and everything, was donated, borrowed or purchased. The landlord was a local family that owned dry cleaning establishments. They gave the Inn many breaks on the rent, which we barely made each month. The Inn picked up residents from Pinellas County Jail, shuttled them to Inn, helped them get ID, jobs, teeth, clothing and sobriety. I believe it was 1989 when the Inn secured a HUD Demonstration Block Grant for transitional housing to insure their existence for another two years.Although the Inn has undergone several changes in location and management over the years, it is my hope to commemorate the many wonderful people that founded The Mustard Seed Inn nearly 37 years ago on more than thoughts and prayers, but on blood, sweat and tears as well as genuine compassion for those suffering from addiction. They made their vision a reality and provided succor and comfort to the thousands of residents, family and friends of the Inn.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehabs encompass multiple levels of care to facilitate clients' progress through their recovery journey. Clients who are stepping down from inpatient treatment may require intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment, which involves more frequent and substantive therapeutic interventions than does standard outpatient care. Outpatient centers typically provide extensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family therapy. Medication assisted treatment programs (MAT) and recovery-focused life skills training are also common in outpatient care.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients typically choose inpatient rehab when they are in early recovery or are experiencing a crisis that puts them at an increased risk of relapse. They reside at the treatment center for the length of their program, which may range from two weeks to more than 18 months, depending on the program design. Intensive psychotherapy is often the primary treatment modality, but clients in inpatient care may also receive holistic treatment and recovery-focused life skills training.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs support recovery through emotional, psychological, and spiritual development to address the root causes of addiction. These programs are peer directed, with participants regularly attending 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and accessible day and night, year-round. Recovery is based on "working the steps" to understand the source of addiction, take accountability for one's life choices, and relinquish control for that which cannot be changed. Age-specific, gender-separate, and other specialized programs are widely available.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home in Florida often serves as a transitional residence for individuals coming out of inpatient rehab. This helps those in recovery avoid isolation that can sometimes happen after they return home from treatment. It offers a supportive environment where they can practice skills learned in rehab. Offering a combination of structure and freedom, men's or women's sober living is a good stepping stone to independent life in recovery.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills are the core skills you need for daily success. They can include self care, stress management, daily routines, and emotion control. Rehab treatment includes the development of these skills so you have the tools you need for long term recovery.

Accreditations

State Licenses are permits issued by government agencies that allow rehab organizations to conduct business legally within a certain geographical area. Typically, the kind of program a rehab facility offers, along with its physical location, determines which licenses are required to operate legally.

I've been here since March 28 of this year. This place gets 5 stars. My mom helped get in here when I got released from jail so I thank her dearly. The place is clean. The staff are very nice and work with you. Any problems you have can be easily worked with. The boss lady Linda is very nice and fun talking too. I will probably be here for a few years until I can find a place. Love this place and the people
