My experience at Valley Springs was honestly awful. From the moment I walked in, the staff were using extremely unprofessional and sometimes outright vulgar language, even within earshot of patients and families. It made the entire environment feel tense and disrespectful. The food was another major issue — low-quality, barely warm, and honestly just disappointing. For a place that’s supposed to care for people, the meals felt like an afterthought. What bothered me most, though, were the overall conditions. The place felt chaotic, understaffed, and poorly managed. I never felt like anyone was really paying attention or taking situations seriously. At times it even felt unsafe, like there wasn’t enough oversight or proper care being given. In my opinion, the conditions were inhumane and far below what anyone should expect from a place responsible for vulnerable people. I would not recommend Valley Springs to anyone until major changes are made.

(Changing 2 stars to 1 star for their autoreplies to all negative reviews saying they are investigating). WARNING! FOR PROFIT COMPANY ACCORDING TO MY RESEARCH!!! You couldn't talk to a nurse unless you knocked on the door of the nurses station. A lot. You get your meds through a glass divider and can't hear the nurse half the time. Also they had almost none of my meds in th system for far too long. I missed doses. Foods generally bad (the food not the kitchen staff) and every other hospital I've been to let's you pick your food. WARNING: I AM NOT GAY BUT THE PASTOR THERE IS HOMPOPHOBIC! IF FOUND THERE DO NOT GO TO CHURCH SERVICES. THE PASTOR WAS TALKED TO BUT WAS NOT FIRED!!!

Just day 1 I called over 15 times. You get a call tree that is ridiculous! I selected many different selections because the obvious ones (reception and Admissions) went to voicemail. I left at least 4 messages and never received a call back from anyone at all. When, in desperation I selected the first choice for the nurses station I was transferred to my Uncles floor. I let the phone ring before hanging up. Next call to admissions again, still no answer. Seems it’s ok to ignore the patient families! My Uncle was transferred from a Baystate Hospital to this Baystate Facility without ever given a choice. If he wanted to leave he was told he couldn’t because they can’t leave on the weekend. This place ( which doesn’t deserve to be called a hospital or care facility) has not once attempted to contact me (i’m the point person for the family) with directions on how to contact my Uncle, the nurses, who are his doctors, what medication, what he needs while in the hospital, how to see him during visiting hours. What time are visiting hours, how to get in the building. Paper work that has to be filled out everyone you drop something off for a patient. How it takes hours for the the items to make its way to the patient. I have not been one word of direction or information! For a place with so many rules, it seems you must follow them without being informed! Keep in mind this is still the first 24 hours! I had to go to the hospital to find how to see my Uncle. I was told to call a number the day before you want to visit cause they don’t take same day visits. Visits are very limited because you must be in a separate locked room. Turns out you CAN call the same day! When I told someone about the issues i was having, I was told they just opened and had a lot of patients coming and going. I found out the joint opened August first, today is November 8th. No tvs or phones in rooms. Must wait in line to make a phone call and make patients line up everywhere they go. My Uncle was by himself and they wouldn’t unlock the door until he fell in line in assigned place. These are patients not prisoners! My Uncle told me there’s one tv for everyone and the nurses have control of the tv. He walked in to see what was going on and they had nonverbal people plopped in front of the tv with a war movie on. Yeah! sounds like something an emotionally compromised person should be watching! I asked if there were vending machines for snacks, as you cannot bring anything in. I was then asked did i think this was a resort? (so polite!) The nurses are are the phone all the time. My Uncle told me they make you stand at the nurses station until they feel like stopping what they’re doing on their phones. Seems the patients are an interuption of their phone use. the best is for last… my Uncle was watching tv later in the evening when 2 young men, the cleaners came in. Instead of cleaning, the nurse gave them the remote and they sat down, changed the channel without asking anyone and watch a basketball game. No care to what the paying patients wanted to watch! I will find out if you can legally hold someone over the weekend! Remember this is just the day one experiences! DoNot bring anyone you love here! This place is a disgrace!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Inpatient rehab offers robust, hands-on care in a highly structured and supportive environment. The facility provides housing, meals, and round-the-clock supervision, allowing clients to focus exclusively on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves intensive addiction counseling based on CBT, DBT, RBT, motivational interviewing, or other psychotherapeutic approaches. Many inpatient treatment centers also offer life skills training and/or complementary therapies, including meditation, mindfulness, and nutrition counseling.

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) facilitate clients' sustained sobriety through high-level care aligned with their evolving needs. Clients engage in multiple treatment sessions per week, typically receiving between nine and 20 hours of outpatient care weekly. The frequency and intensity of treatment gradually decreases as clients stabilize. Many intensive outpatient rehabs offer a variety of services, including addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT). Evidence-based complementary therapies are also common.

A partial hospitalization program (PHP), also known as day treatment, allows you to receive rehab-level care while living at home. PHP treatment requires a minimum of 20 hours of treatment each week for an average of 90 days. PHP treatment plans can vary depending on your needs but typically includes relapse prevention, medication management, and evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Most insurance providers fully or partially cover PHP treatment.

Outpatient programs are designed for clients who are medically stable and not at an elevated risk of relapse, including those who have already completed inpatient care. Outpatient programs typically advance clients' established treatment plans, offering continuing addiction counseling and recovery education. Clients who enter outpatient care immediately following detox may also receive medical and mental health assessments and personalized treatment plans. Most outpatient rehabs provide multiple levels of care to align with clients' unique needs.

Treatments

Mental health services are essential during treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, whether you receive treatment in an inpatient or outpatient setting. While receiving inpatient care, you can expect to have round-the-clock access to mental health therapists and medical staff. Additionally, you will likely receive a number of different therapies and mental health options like individual and group counseling, addiction and relapse prevention education, and coping skills training.

Programs

Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Clinical Services

During cognitive behavioral therapy in Massachusetts, clients work with a trained counselor to identify negative thinking patterns and change them. This change in thinking has been shown to lead to changes in behavior to treat substance use and mental health disorders effectively.
