About Weems Community Mental Health

The Weems Community Mental Health Center is located in Meridian, Mississippi and serves residents throughout Lauderdale County. This is the main center and they offer administrative support, outpatient care, and additional services here that can address your health and wellness needs.

Support for the Whole Family

They have programs that cater to adolescents and adults who are struggling with a substance use disorder. There are also specialized programs for seniors age 50 and older, along with other social support services.

Next door, there is the Weems LifeCare Center where substance abuse support services are offered. Here, you’ll also find state certified DUI assessments and programs as well. If you complete the treatment program, you also get two years of free aftercare support.

Substance Abuse Recovery

Both intensive outpatient and general outpatient services are offered through the Weems Community Mental Health Center. At Weems Life Care, you’ll be supported through intensive substance abuse treatment services. This includes working with a substance abuse professional, receiving extended services if you need them, and getting connected to their aftercare program.

Their outpatient program is more geared toward individuals who are ready to step down from an intensive outpatient program and need regular check ins where they can touch base with a counselor. You’ll also have access to mental health services if you have a coexisting disorder.

Person Focused Care

Although this Community Mental Health Center takes a traditional, clinical approach to care, there are services that focus more on your recovery journey as a person. For example, you can work with certified peer support specialists and gain insight from their lived experiences.

Their aftercare services are another way you can continue building your network of support so that you can stay on the path of recovery.

Adolescents in recovery will also find targeted individual counseling. Teens work to get to the root cause of their addiction struggles, learning skills and strategies to help them make healthier life choices.

I think weems has the potential to be a great place. However the staff are overworked and overwhelmed with the number of patients being referred to them. This causes them to be unable to provide the same care that you would get from a private mental health program. They do have some good therapists and doctors but then there are some who really don't care.If you can afford it try to get a private counselor, or do teletherapy but if you do have to go here ask for Ms. Winter, Ms. Sabrina Moore, or doctor Jordan they are great people.Maybe in the future they could offer teletherapy to their clients and this may help them be more efficient and effective in helping the mental health crisis.

I ll be honest lol never had a problem with outpatient therapists but their work with alliance is shotty and unhelpful whilst also being money oriented. They end up being more worried about meds and a quick diagnosis than actually making sure the patient gets help. weems is meh. Will update once I start seeing an outpatient therapist again

Accepted Insurance

Weems Community Mental Health works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. Weems Community Mental Health Center - College Drive offers 10-week structured program for problems that are not so severe as to require inpatient treatment; consists of three group meetings per week after business hours, which allows participants to keep their regular work schedule in most cases. Individual counseling is also an important part of IOP.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program approach recovery as a life-long process. Drug rehab aftercare encompasses myriad services designed to promote clients' continued sobriety as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Clients generally partner with their case managers and recovery team to define their recovery needs and goals and to identify and access the services they need to promote them. These often include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Recommended as a flexible and intensive addiction treatment option, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is often used as an alternative to inpatient rehab. With daily sessions typically lasting up to six hours for five days a week, PHP treatment provides evidence-based therapies and medical care while allowing you to return home every evening. The length of PHP treatment varies based on your needs, but it averages 90 days.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
During early phases of recovery, 24-hour clinical care in Mississippi provides several advantages that can improve recovery outcomes. First, medical staff can prescribe medications to manage withdrawal. Second, staff are available 24/7 to address mental health issues that arise. Third, any other medical issues can be addressed, such as illness or medication management. Lastly, this intensive level of treatment can provide nutritional care to further improve the individual's health.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

For those seeking help with addiction, a drug rehab in Mississippi offers the necessary care to achieve long-term recovery. Options include inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and long-term drug rehab in Mississippi.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

If you participate in cognitive behavioral therapy in Mississippi, you can expect to receive homework exercises that allow you to practice the skills you discuss during your sessions. You'll learn how to develop coping skills and change your thinking and behavior so you can break free from addiction.

Treatment that includes dialectical behavior therapy in Mississippi gives you specific tools for managing challenging situations. You'll learn how to identify and change unhealthy thought patterns. You'll also attend group training sessions where you can start applying the skills you're learning in treatment.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Counselors who apply motivational interviewing take on the roles of listening and reflecting. Their goal is to facilitate conversation about change and commitment to change. They offer support and seek to empower the client to make changes in their life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Often, substance use and mental health disorders weaken basic life skills. This makes daily functioning a challenge and can lead to a cycle of addiction. To help you break free from this cycle, drug rehab programs include integrated life skills training which helps you redevelop or strengthen the life skills you need for success.

Recreational therapy is a holistic approach to drug and alcohol addiction treatment in Mississippi. It integrates activities like hiking, art, and team sports to improve your physical fitness and give you an outlet to express your emotions and stress. Recreational therapy helps people who are rebuilding their lives to maintain long term sobriety.
