About WellSpan Philhaven

WellSpan Philhaven is a primary and specialty care center in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. They’re a full service health center offering treatment for everything from plastic surgery to sleep disorders and cancer. They also have a behavioral health department where they treat substance abuse disorders as well as anxiety and mood disorders.

They have outpatient treatment programs and can help with opioids, alcohol, and nicotine addictions. They offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) when appropriate for detox and maintenance. The doctors help create custom treatment plans that may include everyday changes such as to your diet and exercise routine.

They also have support for family members who have loved ones dealing with addiction and substance use issues. The center accepts most insurance plans in the area. They take Medicare and most Medicare supplement and Advantage plans.

Because this is a full service facility, they integrate with the other specialties. For instance, if you’re a new mom with postpartum depression, they’ll coordinate your mental health treatments with your maternity care.

The therapist creates a personalized treatment plan and works to address your needs and help you reach your goals. They use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), art therapy, and play therapy. You’ll use the therapies that work best for you. If necessary they can refer you to an inpatient program for more intensive care.

If the therapist feels medication is necessary for your mental health, you’ll see a psychiatrist. You’ll decide with your therapist when it’s time to end therapy. At least one former client felt the program was a lifesaver. Some clients weren’t as happy with their experiences.

i know this place has changed a LOT so i have no clue what its been like before hand, but speaking for myself its honestly really not that bad. i am not biased at all but from what ive witnessed, if you hate the staff its probably because you cant take accountability for your behavior and actions. everyones so quick to hate them just because they can be strict. but like, of course they are??? i have seen staff get attacked by patients multiple times. they are really serious about safety of course. and if youre lying about how you feel thats on you. they cant just see through you. ive been here twice, both in child adolescent and yeah it really sucks at first, the food sucks, other patients are horrible to deal with, and quiet time forces u to be in your room for an hour like 3 times a day but if you get along with others it goes by so much faster. so r.i.p. for those with social anxiety. youre seperated by age, many are in for behavioral issues and wanting to hurt other people, and many are in for suicidal ideation + self harm. if you have a preferred name they will use it for you the best that they can, just let them know. they also have an lgbtq group which is nice. my first time there i had soo many grudges on staff and hated them but that was just because i would get in trouble for breaking the rules a lot. sooo thats on me not them. otherwise now i like all the staff even if some of them less than others also shout out to ironman and sporty spice

Very unhelpful. Staff was uncomfortable and uncoordinated. After a literal day of being there. I immediately left. The therapist I met first had no care whatsoever. I waited wayyy to long for someone to come see me. And the staff is downright lazy. Especially after reading these comments. Group therapy sucked. Don't recommend. UPMC is a very nice place I do recommend going there instead. Very friendly staff and took me very seriously.

In 2018 I was in their inpatient twice for 10 days each, and their residential program for 6 months. I got jumped, shamed, and they don t care if kids harm themselves. My roommate had a razor blade and would show all the patients how easy it was to smuggle things in. Most staff were very rude and some even prevented the bigger kids from having snacks at snack time. DO NOT send your kids here, they will come back more traumatized then when they went in. Thankfully the residential is no longer there, but the staff have been moved to the main building.

WellSpan Philhaven works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

parents, please read this if you are considering sending your children here: i went here a few years ago after making an attempt on my life and self harming. i was in a terrible mental state because i had survived a few years of child sexual abuse. the issue is that this facility treats patients in a one size fits all manner. they do not have the tools or resources to create proper care plans for patients. each patient is treated as though they have the same issues both mentally and physically. for starters, if your child has autism i would definitely not recommend sending them here. when i was here there was a kid with autism and another kid who bullied him relentlessly until he would become overwhelmed. once he became overwhelmed he would have a mental breakdown, which in some cases the staff yelled at him and in others locked him in a room/his room. the child who never left him alone? never got in trouble for causing him to have that reaction. personally, i was asked by a male staff member if i thought jesus would approve of what i had done to myself and how i didnt balue my life. this question would be fine if this us a conversation in a religious setting, however this place is not a religious setting as a jewish child i felt very out of place and uncomfortable by the question. the water here is also terrible, it tastes like its contaminated. they definitely need to filter it. the food is also terrible, there is a chance your child will need to take time to eat properly after being here. lastly, the staff is not kind. as a child i thought this was normal, but as a current medical student who has learned in depth about mental health and helping patients with these conditions i can say that this is not the place for help. this place did absolutely nothing for me and i didnt actually heal until i started to go to therapy through a different place with people who were qualified to help me with my specific issues. PLEASE FIND SPECIALIZED TREATMENT!!

I was in Philhaven in spring 2023. I was so depressed and anxious before going in that I couldn't function and was rapidly losing weight, couldn't get out of bed. I'm grateful for my time in Philhaven, getting medications and coping skills to cope. The staff and everything was amazing. I'm also thankful for the psychiatrist Dr. Khan who gave me a mental health diagnosis that actually made sense. I can't believe I went my whole life without someone diagnosing me properly and I'm so glad Dr. Khan was able to. I am now able to handle my life and mental health. Thank you!

This place is a disaster. Upon admission, I was asked where my soul goes when I die? This was after saying I lost my faith years ago. Wildly inappropriate to mention DEATH to a new patient. Or BADGER them with Christian apologist questions. That’s what a possibly suicidal person wants. It felt like he was trying to convert me. It was the start of a very bad experience with the staff. I had a great time with the patients however. I didn’t see the doctor for nearly 24 hours of being there. Possibly more. The list goes on but that gives you an idea. The news should send someone in there for 3-5 days and see how bad it is. If you read this after leaving the facility and have similar concerns or complaints, there are advocates. Get in touch. Someone to talk to at least.

Our daughter ( 21 yrs old) spent 3 weeks at Philhaven. She was kept safe and was at a much better place emotionally upon her release. Thank you to her therapists and Dr who was willing to make a “medicine switch for the better. Also the activities were helpful. One thing we really appreciated was the phone calls she was allowed to make all day long and we could call in to talk with her any time. We spent a lot of quality time on the phone with her, it was a lifeline for her. I’m sure it’s not convenient for the staff to always have all these calls coming in and going out all day until late in the evening. I say “ Thank you” for allowing us that phone time and for providing for our daughters daily needs while she was there.

This is the 4th outpatient I have been through. The staff was nice, the buildings are nice and clean. But My therapist, Armelle, let my group attack me verbally about my childhood sexual trauma. I had told her prior about getting fondled while I was still in diapers but it didn’t matter. I got NO protection AT ALL from my therapist. All she did was watch as the group attacked me all at the same time. There were several people talking angrily to me all at once and the therapist just sat there and let them attack me. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to this facility or anything connected to or related to Wellspan
