About Aurora Sinai Medical Center

The Aurora Sinai Medical Center is part of a nonprofit health system and is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The medical center offers comprehensive healthcare, including women’s healthcare services, senior services, cancer services and much more.

The medical center at this location does not have specialized programs for substance use disorder and mental health. However, they have an emergency room which may be the first point of contact for patients in crisis from substance use or a mental health issue. Physicians at this center can refer clients to their nearby Aurora locations that offer treatment for mental health and substance use disorders (SUD). The treatment centers are less than 10 miles from this location.

Comprehensive Healthcare Treatment Services in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The medical center offers comprehensive services only four miles from the beautiful North Point Lighthouse on the shores of Lake Michigan. One of the notable services the medical center offers is women’s healthcare. This includes a midwifery practice and a Level III neonatal intensive care unit. Moms and babies receive cutting edge treatment, including care for babies and children with special health needs.

The women’s services include treatment in a respectful and comfortable environment. They offer pelvic floor therapy programs as well as gynecologic surgery. Additionally, there’s a sexual assault treatment center.

The Referral You Need for Targeted Behavioral Health Treatment

For clients who need SUD or mental health services, you’ll be able to get a referral for targeted treatment at one of their nearby facilities. Services include residential and outpatient treatment programs at the Dewey Center, only five miles from the hospital.

Residential treatment includes a personal assessment that helps the team develop a custom treatment plan. You’ll have a psychiatric consultation if medication is appropriate as well as medication management.

The program includes individual, group, and family therapy. Substance use often depletes the body of necessary nutrients necessitating good nutritional support which the program offers. The programs here are holistic, so clients get spiritual guidance, learn mindfulness exercises, and participate in physical exercises, like yoga.

Not my story but someone else's. The OB triage deserves to be in as much pain as this women was. She went in 3 days straight complaining about pain and that there was something was wrong. Pain so bad she had to crawl to get places. Who is crawling on their hands and knees at 38 weeks pregnant due to pain in their lower abdomen. The whole OB triage ignored her and told her to take medicine that she was allergic to. After being declined the second time by OB triage team she had to go to the er who tried to get her up to OB triage but they sent her back to the er basically saying it wasn't their problem. The er doctors on third shift can suffer too as they didn't take her serious. 3 days and 2 hours later they found out she had a rupture which led to her HEALTHY UNBORN BABY to be pronounced dead and the mother to have to have an icu hospital charge for losing 2 liters of blood. Women are not heard! These doctors do not take their jobs seriously! Do not go here unless you want your unborn child to die before coming into this world.I'm here to share stories and spread the word. If yall take offense then maybe make some changes.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Worst ER experience EVER! Waitef almost 2 hours to be seen! There is no rational to the order in which they see patients! It’s for sure not based on your injury. Came in at 7pm left at 2 am. Nurse was rude and incompetent, barely knew how to do an IV and had the audacity to get mad when I couldn’t lay on my back so she could access my preferred arm. Mind you I was there due to an infection in my tailbone 😒. So common sense severely lacking. We also had to take it out ourselves as she was too busy gossiping and talking instead of doing her job. While the doctors I encountered were very nice they were not able to help me. I have a history of abscesses, this is the first time in YEARS, I was not able to be helped and it’s unfortunate the ER is a mess. Serious intervention is needed to clean up. training, routines and procedures. The icing on the cake is when my significant other called back this morning for recommendations on how to expedite my recovery as I am pregnant and dealing with this pain that has greatly hindered my mobility. He was told “do whatever is useful”.. 🙄😒 GREAT advice 🙄. It was our mistake thinking we could get quality care here. We usually go out to the suburbs where they actually care about their patients. We wont be coming here again. Super ghetto experience.

Totally useless team in place here - They let mentally unwell people wander the waiting rooms threatening to kill patients. Eventually billed me >$2,000 to check in and wait in their lobby all day (was never admitted and had to go elsewhere). Don’t refer people here if you care about their safety and quality of care.

Rudest staff I have ever encountered in my life.. The older receptionist was very smug & snappy for no reason. & the nurse lady Ellen Ketter is the most unprofessional unpleasant nurse on earth. She easily made this the worst doctor visit I ever had

There's a woman who received the worse care and even lost her healthy baby. Due to being neglected by OB all though I a mother of 5 beautiful health children know how almost every pregnant woman wants to rush threw their third trimester of pregnancy and will ask for induction. When it comes to serious and Strange unbearable pains and a mother intuition during pregnancy should NEVER get overlooked. Pregnancy and child birth can be very dangerous and that mother tears hurt and suffering are all on you that poor baby life was in your hands and you had not a care in this world about it. So for that the whole OB Triage Should Not Only Be Fire But Stripped From All Licenses FOR LIFE AND JAIL TIME.

Do not go here, the OB department dismisses women in life or death situations and directly caused the death of an unborn baby.

Nobody returns calls EVER. I've been trying to reach a nurse??? who contacted me two days ago. I've been transferred all over the Earth, left voice mails in countless departments, and their "Risk Management" team which are supposed to take complaints doesn’t seem to exist.
