Broward General Hospital has some of the worst customer service I’ve experienced. I waited over 7 hours before even getting a bed, which is completely unacceptable. Patients come here needing care and answers, not endless waiting with little communication. The staff may be overwhelmed, but the overall experience was frustrating and disappointing. I hope improvements are made because no one should have to wait this long for medical attention.

Accepted Insurance

Broward Health Medical Center works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient rehabs encompass multiple levels of care to facilitate clients' progress through their recovery journey. Clients who are stepping down from inpatient treatment may require intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment, which involves more frequent and substantive therapeutic interventions than does standard outpatient care. Outpatient centers typically provide extensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family therapy. Medication assisted treatment programs (MAT) and recovery-focused life skills training are also common in outpatient care.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Therapists who apply cognitive behavioral therapy in Florida believe patient thoughts and behaviors are closely linked. They use this treatment method to help clients change their thought patterns so they can also change behaviors and break free from substance abuse.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Florida consists of individual therapy and group instruction. This structured program is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates the development of skills for managing emotions and relationships.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

On June y, 2026 I was brought in by ambulance in severe abdominal pain. After a CT scan, I was informed by the on call primary Dr. Lora that I had a small abdominal obstruction and sge adked me did I know what that was and I stated yes. After I was moved to the second floor, a general surgeon came in the room introduced himself and says that I have a small abdominal obstruction and it's not good and I will need surgery and that I will have a new scar from the top to the bottom of my stomach in order to see that needs to be seen and done. I wasn't given no alternative choices. I provided my sister's cell phone number to call her prior to anything and he never called her but he did have the surgery planned and scheduled for 4pm on Saturday May 6, 2026 In contrast Dr. Lozada General Surgeon, entered the room with a warm and pleasant smile and immediately approached with professionalism, kindness, empathy, and respect to me and my family. He took the time to thoroughly explain my diagnosis, discuss treatment options, answer my questions, and address my concerns. His ability to communicate difficult medical information with both honesty and compassion made a significant difference in my experience and helped me feel informed, respected, and confident in my plan of care. Dr. Lozada consistently went above and beyond in delivering high-quality patient care. His dedication to his patients is evident in everything he does, and his commitment to excellence reflects the very best qualities of the medical profession. Throughout my years of receiving medical care, only two physicians have left such a lasting impression. LDr. Lozada has earned that same level of admiration and respect. As a Memorial Healthcare employee for the past 11 years, I understand firsthand the importance of providing exceptional patient care and upholding the values our organization represents. In my own role, I strive every day to treat all patients with dignity, respect, compassion, and professionalism. Because of this, I recognize and deeply appreciate when a physician exemplifies those same standards of excellence. Dr. Lozada is a tremendous asset to his patients, his colleagues, Broward Healthcare, and the medical profession as a whole. I am deeply grateful for the care he provided and believe he is highly deserving of recognition for his hard work, dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to exceptional patient care. P.S. I also asked nurse Yunia did she see CKD on my chart because I've never had kidney problems. She stated that she didn't see the DX in my chart but it is clearly indicated on the note from date of service 6/6/26. Nor have I had CAD. I wanted to know who diagnosed me with CKD2 and CAD and why wasn't I ever informed that I had these problems and where they came from. I wasn't explained nothing about any of my lab results that would have indicated that I had Kidney issues.
