I had my baby here in early 2023. It was the best experience I could imagine. I can t believe it s taken me this long to write a review! At every maternity appointment I was greeted by cheery and competent staff. Parking was easy right near the entrance I needed. Throughout my birth and my daughter s first few days in the hospital, everyone we interacted with was warm, competent and made me feel at ease. I was so appreciative that the nurses and even the anesthesiologist were supportive of my birth plan to have an unmedicated birth as long as it was safe. I actually drove an hour and a half from south Miami to deliver here. It was absolutely the right decision. I would recommend this hospital and Dr Skeetes practice to anyone looking for a respectful and safe birth. This hospital has my endless gratitude for my dream birth and a wonderful welcome into the world for my daughter.

Accepted Insurance

Broward Health Medical Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehabs encompass multiple levels of care to facilitate clients' progress through their recovery journey. Clients who are stepping down from inpatient treatment may require intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment, which involves more frequent and substantive therapeutic interventions than does standard outpatient care. Outpatient centers typically provide extensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family therapy. Medication assisted treatment programs (MAT) and recovery-focused life skills training are also common in outpatient care.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Therapists who apply cognitive behavioral therapy in Florida believe patient thoughts and behaviors are closely linked. They use this treatment method to help clients change their thought patterns so they can also change behaviors and break free from substance abuse.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Florida consists of individual therapy and group instruction. This structured program is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates the development of skills for managing emotions and relationships.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to the labor and delivery nurse, Daniella--if remember correctly. She took exceptional care of my baby while she was there. She never showed any judgment toward us and acted quickly when my daughter needed help when she passed out in the bathroom. As a registered nurse at another hospital, I truly appreciated the quality of care she provided. The bedside report she gave when transferring us to the maternity ward was thorough, and her explanations about the medication were outstanding. The eye contact she maintained made us feel included and reassured. Thank you for the care you provided to my baby. I'm not sure how to fully express my gratitude, but I am genuinely thankful.

Erica, Kurt and China are the most caring people I’ve ever met. I was stabbed in the neck. My friend brutally murdered. These staff members helped me throughout the entire healing process.

Great hospital with great staff. Dr Skeete and the Serene Health team delivered all three of my babies, and they were more than wonderful—supportive, cooperative, and professional.

2:00am May 30, 2025 On tonight, I needed to go to the emergency room. I’ve been feeling bad for about a month and I’m finally built the coverage to go to the emergency room on tonight. There was several people who enter into the hospital who wasn’t the same as me I am black African-American. They were seen before me. I stayed patient. They went to the back before me. I remain patient when I was called to the back I was put in the hallway and I didn’t like it. I didn’t say anything, but my husband spoke on my behalf and was like the hallway Now I understand all hospitals have HIPAA and the hallway had other people in it, and the doctor came and began to ask questions while the nurse came to ask questions I felt uncomfortable because I’m out in the opening and there was no privacy.

If you are hurt go or ask to be taken somewhere else. Was in an accident and they kept leaving me in the hall no pain meds or anything. After 7 hours finally did X rays saw I had broken bones and continued to give me the least amount of pain medication they could. Also some nurses are rude and some only look after their culture. Beware going here

This hospital is extremely disappointing as staff appears to prioritize socializing over patient care, resulting in lengthy wait times.

We recently had the privilege of being cared for by Carol and Erin in the Labor and Delivery unit, and I can’t thank them enough for the incredible support they gave my wife. From the moment we arrived, both nurses were attentive, compassionate, and completely tuned in to what my wife needed both physically and emotionally. Both Carol and Erin went above and beyond to make a stressful and emotional time so much more bearable. We felt cared for, heard, and supported every step of the way. We’re so grateful for their professionalism and kindness. Alex & Steph

We are the family of a patient who spent several days at Broward Health Medical Center, 5 South Tower, and we have mixed feelings about our experience. On the positive side, the ICU staff were outstanding. Nurse Daniela in the ICU was incredibly caring, attentive, and went above and beyond to explain everything. We felt genuinely supported by her, and she always answered our questions with patience. Lula, one of the nurses on 5 South Tower when we first arrived, was also kind and professional. These nurses made a difficult time easier with their compassion and competence. However, after our family member was transferred back to 5 South Tower from the ICU, the level of care seemed to drop noticeably. Pain management was a major issue: the patient’s pain was often dismissed or only treated with Tylenol 650 mg, which is not adequate for serious pain. We had to constantly ask for better relief. Another frustrating problem was the scheduling of physical therapy after dialysis. Appointments were often delayed or poorly coordinated, leaving the patient waiting and uncomfortable. Communication was a constant challenge. Doctors rarely explained the plan without prompting, and even though the nurses were friendly, they sometimes seemed too busy to check on us regularly. We often felt uninformed about the care plan or progress, and it shouldn’t be the family’s responsibility to push for basic information. Discharge planning was similarly lacking in detail. The lack of guidance made us worry about what to expect at home. We were really disappointed that although staff apologized for the issues we faced, we did not see any meaningful changes or solutions offered. It felt like we had to fight for every bit of good care, instead of the care coming naturally from the hospital team. We hope future patients receive more thorough attention and coordination. We share our experience in the spirit of helping others make informed decisions.
