About the Facility

The Lovelady Center, in Birmingham, Alabama, is a faith-based drug and alcohol rehab for adult women. They offer long-term residential care and aftercare planning and support, including specialized programming for young adults, pregnant and postpartum women, women with young children, justice-involved women, and women with co-occurring disorders.

Treatment at The Lovelady Center begins with a comprehensive medical and mental health assessment and personalized care plan. The program specializes in court-mandated programming, including jail diversion and supervised reentry for clients on probation, parole, and supervised release. Self-referred clients from the general population are also welcome.

Their phased residential treatment program requires a minimum commitment of 12 months of inpatient care for most clients. Clients engage in intensive individual, group, and family counseling and robust, recovery-focused life skills training addressing topics such as coping, self-care, anger and stress management, financial and household management, parenting, and relapse prevention. The program prioritizes clients’ spiritual healing, including daily prayer and Bible study and regular attendance at chapel or church services. Clients are also expected to consent to random drug and alcohol screening, to adhere to program codes of conduct, and to pursue stable employment and continuing education in preparing to successfully reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community.

Their aftercare services ensure a complete continuum of care aligned with clients’ evolving needs and may include step-down support, housing and employment assistance, and referrals for additional services.

The Lovelady Center is a registered nonprofit organization offering financial assistance and low and no cost services. They may also work with major insurers, such as Anthem, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Aetna, Humana, United Healthcare, and others, to offset treatment costs. Out of network benefits vary. Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
