ACCESS TO CARE IS A JOKE.I'VE BEEN RESCHEDULED TWICE FOR AN APPOINTMENT THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN NOVEMBER AND AS OF MARCH 5TH I STILL HAVE NOT BEEN SEEN. YOU WONDER WHY VETERANS ARE KILLING THEMSELVES EVERY DAY? THIS IS WHY, GARBAGE FACILITIES LIKE THIS ONE.Got a call a couple days after they cancelled and tried to reschedule my appointment the second time saying I needed to schedule an appointment. OH, REALLY???I have half a mind to make a bunch of appointments and just not show up for them to send them a message. You wanna waste my time and not care, you get that same mentality back. Despicable.

Accepted Insurance

VA Medical Center-Fayetteville works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients undergoing treatment at an inpatient rehab receive extensive therapeutic support through daily addiction counseling and recovery-focused services. These often include addiction education and life skills training. Many inpatient facilities also offer evidence-based holistic therapies, such as massage, yoga, acupuncture, creative arts therapy, and experiential therapy. Inpatient care is typically best suited for clients who recently completed detox, are in early recovery, or at a heightened risk of relapse.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients in addiction recovery typically require robust, ongoing support, which rehab aftercare programs are designed to provide. These programs are premised on the idea that clients' mental, emotional, physical, social, and financial wellbeing is essential to recovery. Clients collaborate with their case managers and addiction recovery team to identify the rehab aftercare services they will need to thrive while in recovery. Clients may receive peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

The goal of drug rehab in Arkansas is to help individuals stop using addictive substances and learn healthy ways to remain clean long-term. Participants learn vital skills to cope with cravings and manage stress, to prevent relapse.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

If you use substances heavily, this can interfere with your body's ability to absorb and use nutrients. This results in malnutrition and other health problems. Nutrition therapy addresses these deficiencies to support healing and recovery.

5 Star treatment at the Endoscopy Unit. Former Endoscopy nurse here from NY and this unit blew me away. Sharp, knowledgable, and caring staff at every level! From the Receptionist to the doctors, nurses, techs and other staff, everyone here is impressive. Kudos to everyone here who make it all possible.

My veteran friend went in with a terrible stomach ache. He had a ruptured appendix and complications. The staff at the VA Hospital was very kind to his family and has taken the best care of him they can. Grateful that we have a VA here! No matter what's going on outside the doors, patient care is priority inside. Thank you to the ICU staff.

This review is specifically about Dr. Griffin. If you are assigned to her care team, RUN. This practitioner is incompetent, and totally lacking in respect and compassion. She hurt our family deeply by ignoring my veteran husband’s excruciating pain and blocking help from the er doctors he saw multiple times because she was not providing adequate care. She is rude, dismissive, forgetful and practically illiterate (misspelling basic words like “dentist” in her communication with my husband.) She isn’t fit to practice and should face consequences for her negligence. Her nurse is awful, too, refusing to address my husband by his name, botching appointments, and neglecting to answer even basic questions.

Garbage hospital tried to speak to my dad’s social worker Elizabeth Mitchell no calls back. Trying to say I would not be eligible for home health care compensation because apparently my 80 year old dad can take care of himself hence I had to leave Arkansas and fly to Florida multiple times to have him come with me because he ended up going to the hospital multiple times he cannot shop for himself cannot do laundry doctor told me he is showing early signs of dementia. He cannot stand on his feet for long time he even told the people at this horrible establishment he has short term memory lost if he can take care of himself why have I had to take care of him for 3 years and now have to work part time at home because I have to take care of him feed him do laundry take his blood pressure and record it everyday since the VA thinks he can do it himself after they gave him instructions and showed him how to do it he forgot. I have to remind him to eat drink water take a shower help with his diapers but the VA IN FAYETTEVILLE says he can take care of himself if I could leave negative trillion stars I would because one star is way to generous. The system here is sickening. If he didn’t have me he would probably not be alive because the VA HERE DOES NOT CARE AND WANTS TO MAKE EVERYTHING DIFFICULT hopefully one day veterans will be better taken care of

Updated review: Previously I had attempted to make an appointment around July, 2024, I was given an appointment for November, 2024, it was cancelled and rescheduled in Nov for March of 2025. In March I was called and it was cancelled and they asked to reschedule it. I hung up and got a call later saying I needed an appointment. I called the patient advocate and was given an appointment for April 2025. I was seen by an extremely corteous and kind LPN and eventually seen by Dr. Freberg. I can safely say my faith in this institution is restored due to team 5 and Dr. Freberg. Originally, due to my previous experiences, I honestly expected sub-par medical treatment, but was blown away by how amazing he was. I'm relieved my initial bad experience seems to be a random occurrence and very hopeful. Initial review: ACCESS TO CARE IS A JOKE.
