About Child & Family Guidance Center – Plano Clinic

Child and Family Guidance Center (CFGC) is a nonprofit mental and behavioral health treatment center. Their general outpatient programs (OP) are open to clients of all ages. The CFGC network provides walk-in services as well as primary care in some locations. You’ll find ’em located in Plano, Texas.

CFGC’s OP meets clients at the facility, at home or school, or somewhere in the community to make care accessible. The length of services depends on the needs of the client. Services include assessments, counseling (individual, group, and family), motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), life skills training, case management, and medication management.

Telehealth services are available.

Clients need to contact CFGC to see if their insurance is accepted. However, mental health and drug rehab programs commonly accept major insurance plans like Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, and TRICARE. Clients are encouraged to confirm coverage with their insurance plan, as out of network benefits may vary.

Staff needs to be mindful and considerate of the brain damage and memory issues that their patients suffer. Was told in a condescending way on the phone that their appointment reminder system is broken and that it is my fault that I missed my appointment last month, when they have made sure to call to remind me in the past. I have brain damage and memory problems from a grand mal seizure and from multiple mental illnesses. If it wasn't for the fact that I have been a patient since 2018, and need these medications to even be able to function, I would have left a long time ago.Edited to add: if it wasn't for running out of one of my medications I would not have even known I missed my appointment. I go 3 months between visits and depend on the phone call reminder, as the calendar on my phone is unreliable. Also, don't expect a timely visit from Dr. N, she's on average 30 to 45 minutes late every damn time, I've almost been late to work waiting on her.

S, we are sorry to hear that you missed your appointment and may have received inaccurate information over the phone. We will work with our call center team to insure they have up to date information. They were correct that we are not using the same automated reminder system as we had previously. We sent notification of that change in August and September. If you didn't receive that text, please contact us at hereforyou@childrenandfamilies.org so we can confirm that we have the correct number. Our support staff make reminder calls 1-2 business days prior to each appointment. Again, if you did not receive that call, please let us know so we can update the contact information on file. We hope to have our automated system operation again soon. We appreciate your patience as we continue upgrading our systems to provide the best care to our patients.

Been going to this office for about 4-5 years now..yes contacting them is a struggle but it is getting better. My big issue is the in office wait time is ridiculous. Most of the time I'm i await room for atleast an hour. Like today for instance my appointment was at 9:45 it's now 10:34 and no one called us yet..Plus if I'm doing virtual visit in office why not save me the trip and do it at home...Case workers just read from sheet and check boxes....We can do all this virtual with no issues...save me the wasted time and trip

It s incredibly difficult to speak to someone at the physical Plano location. They don t answer the phone. The best you can do is leave a voicemail that won t be returned or repeatedly contact the call center to transfer you several times before you MIGHT get someone to answer at Plano. And you have to call the pharmacy if you want to get a message to the doctor for a refill request sent in a timely manner. Communication between the call center, the physical location, and the patients is terrible. The information regarding patient info and appointments are incredibly incorrect. In one instance I made an appointment and when the date of the appointment actually came, there was no record in their system of the appointment and we were not able to see the doctor. My son went without his medication for a few days and I had to reschedule. The appointment reminders that were sent by text and email did not have the correct time for the rescheduled appointment made so we missed the next appointment but at least they accommodated for that and we were still seen that day. EVERY appointment reminder has had the wrong time by the way!!Today I had a virtual appointment for 2 PM. I was told I needed to see a caseworker before I could see the doctor. I waited for over an hour before I was able to get someone on the phone (after calling several times!) to then be told that I was not able to see a caseworker today and the doctor has now left for the day at 3:20 pm so regardless, I was going to need a new appointment and my son AGAIN was gonna go without medication. They could not provide any apology, explanation, or ownership for the fact that their establishment made a mistake by scheduling an appointment that couldn t happen. The best customer service they could provide was explaining the need for seeing a case worker and advising me to be the first person there in tomorrow morning as it is apparently first come, first serve when it comes to being seen by a caseworker. My son has been a patient here since 2018 and that was news to me.Regardless, this has been a reoccurring experience for the last several appointments and I m completely fed up. Patient services and care has severely declined over the last year or so, so this will be our final visit.Medications for mental health are extremely important and they have made the very simple process of scheduling and adhering to appointments and sending refills unnecessarily difficult and frustrating resulting in running out of patience and said medications.

Accepted Insurance

Child & Family Guidance Center – Plano Clinic works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs promote participants' sustained sobriety through rigorous and ongoing peer coaching and personal spiritual growth. Participants routinely attend 12 step meetings, which are available multiple times per day, 365 days per year in most communities. This ensures that those in recovery have prompt access to the structure and support they need when they need it. These programs use spiritual precepts to address the root causes of addiction and encourage compassion, self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Therapy sessions that incorporate motivational interviewing focus on OARS: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. This facilitates an exchange of information and an empowering of the client to decide for themselves what changes might need to be made in their lives.

Staff is horrible, just want to clock out on time and canceled my kids appointment even though we arrived before our appointment window. They gave me forms to fill out and NEVER informed me that those forms have to be completed by 4 or they cannot see us today!!!!! Hello?!! I drove 40 min to get here (I was not late at all) because my kid is coughing a lot lately and we just to get send back home because your staff failed to inform parents and patients that they have to finish the freaking forms by 4. Front desk definitely knows that we are bilingual and not that proficient in English, makes me wonder if they did it on purpose by not telling us the dealing cuz obviously, we need more time than locals to fill out the form. No consideration nor leniency was given. Terrible Terrible service and attitude.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

This location does not answer the phone which is EXTREMELY annoying and inconvenient. Would not recommend this non profit AT ALL to handle serious issues. What’s the point of even having a phone there? I also have been trying to get them to fax an FMLA form and never heard back. And they just continuously don’t answer the phone and barely call back. Always up in the air if you’re gonna get an appointment actually set or not. Just way too inconvenient to be in business. ESPECIALLY for mental health. Please just do better, and maybe answer the phone for once.

JJ and KJ are absolutely incredible! Their kindness, attentiveness, and compassion shine through in everything they do. As the new director for Children and Family Guidance, JJ’s dedication to helping children is truly inspiring. Both JJ and KJ go above and beyond to understand and support the mental and behavioral health needs of each child, ensuring they receive the care and guidance they deserve. I have personally seen their commitment to mentoring and empowering children, helping them set goals, build confidence, and work toward success. If you’re looking for a place that truly prioritizes your child’s well-being, this is the place to be. I’m beyond grateful for all they have done!

DO NOT GO HERE. Id give them 0 stars if possible. If you care anything about yourself or your family, keep them as far away from this facility as possible. The office people are rude and do not care about yours or your family's needs. My husband and I have been trying to schedule an appointment/get paperwork filled out with them to refill my daughters meds. For the last month and a half we've been hung up on, transferred, left voicemails, left on hold for several minutes(30-50 minutes) and STILL no call back or help. We've even left messages for their regional manager. Nothing. My daughter is now out of meds and they still do not care. Save yourself the time and go somewhere that actually cares for their patients cause it surely is not this one.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi Kristen. Thank you for sharing this with us. We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating this must be for you and your family.
