Connections Community Support Programs

Closed: Wilmington, Delaware

About Connections Community Support Programs

Though it’s now closed, Connections Community Support Programs in Wilmington, Delaware once provided outpatient services that included mental health and substance abuse treatments in a non residential setting. During their operation, they were situated in an ideal setting near the Limen House for Men and Crossroads of Delaware Inc, a popular treatment center in Delaware.

For payment, they accepted Medicaid, Medicare, private health insurance, and military insurance like TRICARE. They also accepted self payments and offered payment assistance including sliding fee scales based on income, household size and other factors.

Outpatient and Residential Treatment with Primary Care in Wilmington

Connections Community Support Programs offered outpatient services and residential treatment programs with intensive care services. Because mental health tends to play a role in addictions, habits and choices, we like that they specialized in dual diagnosis treatment.

The residential treatment centers were available for adults, and outpatient mental health facilities were also extended. Integrated primary care services were provided along with housing services to aid in your independence.

Employment Services and More to Complement Treatment

Supported employment and vocational rehabilitation services were included as part of the many offerings of Connections Community Support Programs. They also offered family psychoeducation which we feel is great because it brought crucial support systems into the treatment process.

Being able to find both these programs in addition to the outpatient and residential services under one entity is something we find impressive. This comprehensive approach highlighted their commitment to addressing multiple facets of recovery all in one accessible place.

I was a client here for MANY years. My therapist who has now been promoted and is no longer able to see clients but she was BEYOND INCREDIBLE. Her name is Mary Caroselli (might have spelled that wrong) I was with Mary for nearly 7 years and she helped me significantly. I have a fear of therapists after one at Middletown counseling abused me and Mary helped ease that fear. I followed her from her previous practice (can’t remember which practice it was) and she graciously continued to see me here at connections. Sadly by the time Mary got back from maternity leave I only had 3 weeks left with her before she started her new position. I only saw her once where she promised to help me find a new therapist… that never happened so now I’m on my own to find a therapist to help me with my very specific issues. Mind you she left me with no one during a very scary time in my life where I, a nearly 21 year old, was about to be diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that would only become more and more painful as I age. I was NOT handling this well because 1) were in a pandemic and having an autoimmune disease would leave me immunocompromised and much more Susceptible to catching covid and getting very sick from it. 2) as a 20 something my independence is very important to me and being in the severe pain I’m in from my condition (I was diagnosed on the 15th of December in 2021 so I definitely have it) and knowing that the older I get the worse my pain will become was and is still terrifying because I already have trouble getting out of bed in the morning and I can only imagine how bad it’ll be in the coming years. Mary fully knew this and fully knew how much of a mess I was because of this upcoming diagnosis yet she still left me with no one to vent my frustrations to. I completely understand that she was busy getting ready for her new position and the fact that she now has a 3 month old child to take care of but that still doesn’t excuse leaving a client without the care they so desperately need. Overall Mary was the ONLY ONE at connections who helped me with the other people there always being very rude and dismissive. One person I called even claimed that I’m a liar and that I wasn’t seeing someone here because Mary failed to ever put me in the system. To be completely honest the only way I’d recommend this place is if Mary was still seeing clients but since she’s not I can’t recommend connections.

It is no wonder that this organization filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy because the clinical supervisor, Lisa Clark (also known as Lisa Nyinaku) is a condescending, sanctimonious, self-consumed person with no respect for other people. I had the displeasure of interacting with her years ago in one of her previous positions as assistant director of residence life at a university. She sent me passive aggressive e-mails asking for "more information" as to why I was using an exit door (the elevators were broken and no one fixed them despite my numerous reports) and when I explained this to her, she all but claimed that I was lying, and dismissed my explanation altogether. Egotistical person who enjoys power trips but with no actual power whatsoever.

Accepted Insurance

Connections Community Support Programs works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

This place does not deserve to be a mental health center. My family went here and it was a disaster from the start. Very poor communication. If you have mental health issues please find another office.

Some of the shadiest and fakest people I have ever experienced. They lie about everything and care about money only. Dirtbags.

I called Community Connections Support Programs looking for housing support/assistance. The first person I spoke to was very rude and dismissive, and gave me a fake number. I called back a second time, and spoke to the same person. Again very rude and dismissive, and gave me another fake number. I waited a few minutes and called back, and spoke to someone else. This person was more or less uninterested in helping me. They gave me another number that was also a dead end. Obviously this place is not here to help "everyone" in the community... maybe certain "kinds" of people get help... but not not everyone. This non-profit did not help me one bit

I don't know anything about Connections. I was on the bus and I was trying to help someone find it.
