Our residential programs combine individual, family, and group therapy with psychiatry and a wide range of experiential therapies such as equine-assisted therapy, art, surf, music, drama, yoga, and fitness. Teens also receive daily academic support to help them stay on track with school.

Safe, Supportive Environment

With one of the highest client-to-staff ratios in the nation (3:1), we ensure 24/7 safety and individualized attention. Our homes provide a warm, comfortable setting while maintaining strict safety protocols, including line-of-sight supervision and 1:1 support when needed.

We work closely with families throughout treatment and beyond. Out-of-state families can join sessions virtually through HIPAA-compliant platforms. At discharge, we provide detailed aftercare planning, including family support, home contracts, and local provider referrals to ensure a smooth transition.

Accredited and Licensed Programs

Evolve is fully licensed and accredited by the Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD), CARF, and the Joint Commission. Our programs meet the highest standards in clinical excellence and compliance, giving families peace of mind that their teen is receiving safe, effective treatment.

Calabasas facility was very nice, staff seemed to care a lot. Some minor issues with medication management, and education coordination. After 45 days at Evolve, my child came out with some good coping skills. Overall, I think it was a good experience.

I wouldn’t wish this place on anyone. I am a survivor of both childhood trauma and a broken mental health system, and I can say without hesitation: Evolve was worse than being trapped with my abuser. At least with my father, I had autonomy. I could leave. I could go on walks, ride my bike, look at the stars, and remind myself I was still a human being. At Evolve? I had nothing but surveillance, sedation, and the suffocating knowledge that I had no say in my own life. This wasn’t treatment. It was imprisonment with pastel walls. Staff used guilt, gaslighting, and fear to coerce compliance. When I cried about staying, I was mocked and manipulated. I was told the more I resisted, the longer I’d be held. One staff member, a therapist, Emily, made it worse. Her behavior gave off deeply unsettling vibes—like she enjoyed watching me beg. It felt sociopathic. Evolve is not about healing. It’s about money. Once you’re admitted, you’re no longer a person—you’re a dollar sign. They tried to keep me far longer than necessary, even though I wasn’t a danger to myself or others. My mom knew it. They knew it. And when she pushed back to discharge me early? They got angry—not because they cared about my recovery—but because they were losing tens of thousands of dollars. This is a for-profit machine, not a safe haven. And it’s terrifying how easy it is to become legally trapped inside it. If you’re a parent, think twice before sending your child here. If you’re a teen in crisis, you deserve real help—not institutional trauma wrapped in lavender and fake smiles. Final thought: When a so-called “treatment center” feels worse than the trauma that sent you there… that’s not mental health care. That’s psychological violence.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Usually done in an inpatient setting, your vitals signs and overall well being are consistently monitored and rechecked in order to keep you safe and ensure the detox is successful.

Treatments

Alcoholism, or alcohol use disorder (AUD), is defined by alcohol dependence. This is a state the body reaches when it experiences withdrawal symptoms in the absence of alcohol. A person who has AUD craves alcohol and continues to drink despite adverse consequences. Because withdrawing from alcohol can pose health risks, individuals with AUD should seek professional alcohol rehab in California to overcome their alcohol addiction. This process typically involves medical detox, rehabilitation, and maintenance.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

In California, dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs offer comprehensive care for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Programs include medically assisted detox, intensive outpatient, outpatient, residential rehab, and partial hospitalization. Using an evidence-based approach, clinicians utilize therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy and mindfulness to address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health challenges. Additional services include 12-Step recovery, group therapy, family counseling, and relapse prevention to promote sustained recovery.

Inpatient treatment for drug and alcohol addiction with a focus on mental health is a good fit for people who need closer monitoring and care. Programs

teen-program thumbnail image

Teen Program

Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in California is a method that therapists often use for the effective treatment of substance use disorders. It is based on the principle that substance abuse stems from unhelpful ways of thinking and patterns of behavior, which can be changed by helping the individual learn better ways of coping.

While participating in dialectical behavior therapy in California, you'll focus on four key areas of skill development: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Treatment includes weekly individual and group sessions.

Family therapy offers a platform for members to have an open dialogue about the challenges that addiction has placed on the family unit. Through guided sessions, therapists can help families develop healthy communication skills and address unresolved issues. By working together toward a common goal, they help to support their loved one's sobriety.

Individual therapy for drug addiction includes a customized treatment plan that considers your history and life circumstances. During your therapy sessions, the therapist helps you uncover underlying issues and triggers for addictive behavior that support a holistic approach to recovery.

For clients who are struggling with ambivalence toward change, motivational interviewing in California can help strengthen their commitment to change. Using a conversational method, the therapist helps you explore your motivations and empowers you to make the changes you desire.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

The use of experiential therapy can be helpful for the treatment of behavioral disorders, including drug and alcohol addiction. This method teaches you how to release negative emotions and cope with pain from the past. Activities such as art, music, and animal care are used to facilitate this process.

During group therapy, men and women learn to express their emotions openly in a non judgmental setting. This helps you process your feelings and reduces feelings of social isolation that are often associated with addiction.

While in rehab treatment, you may work on developing various life skills to help you in long term recovery. These may include resilience, interpersonal skills, and self awareness. The focus will be on developing healthy habits for self care and relationships so you have the skills you need to manage day to day life.

Four years ago, I attended this treatment center, and to this day, I am still tormented. I was never truly taken seriously here, and I had nightmares almost every single night about returning to this place for two years. The only good staff were the ones whom we hardly got to see, like the cook and music staff. I am filled with so much hate and vitriol to this day, stemming from the two months of hell I endured in this godforsaken building. The staff here belittle you by telling you they could have gotten paid more working at Starbucks, meanwhile using their jobs to enact their own power fantasy, completely breaking down every client until there is nothing they can control in their day-to-day life. Every single day here was the worst day of my life, and staff did not care that clients wanted to harm themselves. We had dehumanizing "body checks" up to three times a day that involved stripping down to our underwear in front of an adult so they could "check" you for contraband. Whatever you do, do not send your children here. They will hate you for it.

My 13 year old son went to Evolve with some severe mental health diagnosis. We as parents felt lost and so unsure of what his future would look like. My son did great at the treatment facility. He learned, participated, and has come back as someone who learned quite a bit. Is he perfect? Definitely not. Has he made a few bad decisions since being home? Yep definitely. However, he is also able to talk through them. He can recognize he made mistakes and takes accountability. We also talk about participating in a skill if he starts getting upset. He learned plenty of skills that he can use right away like box breathing and such. I am grateful for the team there. They worked hard with my son and us to help all of us. It is as much our son putting in the work as it is us. We all had to participate and take accountability in order to move forward. I’m grateful. My son can now talk through things better and also give more understanding to others. I can’t recommend this treatment facility enough.

the food was really good but the rules are stupid and its basically a messed up dance moms pyramid. you get no privacy and they barely let you shower. they dont supply you with good snacks throughout the day. the chefs really cool though she made some good food. surf is fun but they make you do boring exercises first to "warm-up" and the horse therapy is gross and grimy and slimy. people got human waste on the bathroom floor and allegedly someone smeared it on the wall. the level system is dehumanizing and unfair. some of the staff were really cool though and lauren's a great therapist. diana, noel, katelyn, chamile and more staff that left were really good. someone also left a lot of hairballs in the carpet. and the night staff were really creepy but the creepy guy i think got fired. after i went here when i got discharged my boyfriend broke up with me and i cried for a week. and then i went to school and this kid started bullying me and calling me fat and stuff and then a few months later i got a new boyfriend and he called me fat a lot too and told me to lose weight because i weighed more then him but he was only like 90 pounds so anyways. after i kept getting bullied for my weight by this kid and my boyfriend i started starving myself again an relapsed. i also was in the icu for a week a few weeks ago anyways. so basically i relapsed.

We will always be grateful for what Evolve has given back to us - a healthier, mentally stronger, and thoughtful teenager. While I won't go into specifics, the coping skills, emotional growth, stress management skills, and overall improvements in function from our teenager's stay will impact the rest of his life. We have a long way to go still, and continue to attend additional therapies, but the support and structure that Evolve provided during a crisis has allowed our son to see the importance of therapy, embrace change, and face some of his deep traumas. We will always be grateful for the wonderful work the Evolve team provided. From individual therapy to family therapy, and group sessions, etc, everything they have given has been translated into our day-to-day life. We cannot thank the team enough for their hard work and providing a stable environment to grow together with our son on his healing journey. We strongly recommend this team - we worked with two therapists during our son's stay, and they were both wonderful in their own ways - pulling our son out of his self-preservation stage, into a place of learning and growth. Thank you so much for all you've done!

After some previous treatment that was just not working, we found ourselves in need of sending our 17-year-old daughter to a residential facility due to her suicidal ideation, depression, and anxiety. Our daughter is very bright, intelligent and wonderful, but was really having a hard time feeling very low, self isolating, and self harming. Despite having a supportive family, and many good things in her life, she was at a point of not wanting to live. I can honestly say that after a lot of research and going down a few wrong roads, the best thing we ever did was send her to evolve Calabasas. Our daughter even told us that she really was just going to “fake it to make it” but within a week or two she really started to put the effort in and wanted to get better. We were blessed with an amazing therapist named Lauren that my daughter connected with instantly… and she was an amazing resource for our entire family. There are also other staff members that my daughter really connected with as well. She not only learned DBT skills, but started using them on her own, and helping us understand them as well. I will say that it is important to research the type of therapy that your kids are receiving so that you are as educated as they are. I loved that Lauren was not only my daughter’s therapist but also our family therapist, and had conversations with us both with my daughter and without. I know not everyone’s experience will be what ours was… and there were definitely some hard times. But I can honestly say that this made a huge difference in my daughters life. She is no longer suicidal, and she utilizes her skills on a regular basis.
