Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

My best friend was in the women’s facility for 8 days she left today for something that happened with another resident… she didn’t intend or think or want the result that came to be even happen. However the way the staff treated her and/or tried to handle the situation only made it worse! The woman that is in “charge “ is incapable and incompetent of handling her position! The end result turned out worse than my friend could have expected or imagined because of her! I’m sad for my friend and she is devastated for how this played out! Changes need to be made and positions need to be reevaluated like yesterday! Other than that the place is wonderful!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you for sharing this, Robert. While we’re grateful to hear that your overall impression of our facility was positive, we're deeply sorry that your friend’s experience ended in such disappointment and hurt. It’s clear this situation left a lasting impact, and we want you to know we take your concerns seriously.<br><br>When conflicts arise between residents, it’s our responsibility to address them in a way that prioritizes safety, compassion, and long-term recovery. If your friend left feeling unsupported or mistreated, we’ve missed the mark—and we are genuinely sorry for that. The individuals entrusted with leadership roles here are held to high professional and ethical standards, and feedback like yours is exactly what we need to ensure those standards are consistently met.<br><br>We did reach out to your loved one yesterday afternoon after receiving your review to check in on her experience, and we weren’t able to reach her directly or leave a voicemail. My ex just left here after completing 4 weeks of treatment. They promised if he did what he was supposed to and trust them and the process, they would help him and not let him walk out without a place to go. They were supposed to have housing set up for him to continue his path of recovery as discussed. 4 weeks completion and guess what they let him go out the door, no place to go with a half cast and broken hand with no resources and his on the street. Just unbelievable. Edit: staff was able to call and address my concerns. Thank you for all your help and getting back with me in a timely manner.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi Maryann, we’re deeply sorry to hear about your ex’s experience following his discharge. Your concern is entirely understandable, and we sincerely appreciate you taking the time to share it. We recognize how important it is for clients to have a plan in place when they transition out of residential care, and it’s never our intention to leave anyone without support. While we do assist in coordinating aftercare and provide referrals for housing, unfortunately, most recovery housing options in Michigan—particularly those funded by Medicaid or the public system—require clients to apply, meet specific criteria, and be approved by external housing providers. These decisions are ultimately made by third-party agencies, not by Meridian. When resources are limited or applications are denied, it can create heartbreaking situations despite everyone’s best intentions. That said, we never want someone to feel like they were discharged without support or care. We would like the opportunity to review the specifics of this case so we can understand what happened, address any breakdown in the process, and improve wherever possible. If you’re open to it, please call our office at 248-599-8999 and ask to speak directly with our leadership team. Wishing your loved one strength and safety as he continues his recovery journey.<br><br>UPDATE: We are happy we could provide you with answers. God bless and call anytime.

Worst place ever, nurses are no help. No useful classes on how to stay sober during turmoil. Can't expect anyone to get sober while nurses aren't even willing to do their jobs. Teach the addicts how to recover not cover it up with makeup. Girl friend went here and it was the worst experience ever for her. Doubtful that good could come from this place.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi Carl,<br><br>Thank you for sharing your concerns. We're truly sorry to hear that your girlfriend's experience with us left you feeling this way. Feedback like yours is essential for us to continue improving and better supporting the individuals and families we serve.<br><br>I want to take a moment to clarify a few important aspects of our approach, as there may be some misunderstandings. Our program is designed with structure and therapeutic variety in mind. Clients engage in programming Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM and on weekends from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. These classes expose them to a wide range of coping strategies because we recognize that recovery is not one-size-fits-all. Some may find strength in mindfulness or cognitive skills, while others benefit from peer support, creative expression, or movement-based therapies. Our short-term inpatient model is meant to introduce many pathways so each client can begin identifying what works best for them before transitioning to the next phase of their recovery journey.<br><br>We are especially concerned by your comments about our nursing staff. This does not reflect the level of care we strive to uphold. If you are open to it, we would truly appreciate learning more specifics so that we can address this internally. You're welcome to reach out directly to 248-599-8999 x2112 and confidentially so we can look into this further and ensure accountability where necessary.<br><br>While we regret that this was your girlfriend’s impression of her time here, we remain committed to providing compassionate, individualized care and we welcome the opportunity to improve through your input.<br><br>Sincerely,<br>Noel Landsparger<br>Meridian Health Services
