The New York Center for Living is dedicated to one purpose; helping young people and their families work through the web of problems caused by the use and abuse of addictive substances, both legal and illegal. New York Center for Living integrates conventional and complementary therapeutic services to provide a holistic, individualized environment where healing can begin.

New York Center for Living Focus:

Substance Abuse

Substance Abuse Treatment Centers focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Opiate Addiction

Opiate Addiction Treatment Centers specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Rehab Services:

Psychotropic Medication

Psychotropic medications (aka psychodynamic medication) are any medicines used specifically to affect and/or alter a patient’s mind, emotions, and behaviors. Such psychiatric medicines are often used to change chemical levels in the brain that impact a person’s mood and behavior. These medications include mood stabilizers, antidepressants, anti-ADHD drugs, and anti-anxiety medications.

What does New York Center for Living offer?

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

Their intensive outpatient program provides up to twenty-five hours a week of individual, group and family therapy. This is designed to introduce patients to recovery by developing productive skills to prevent relapse, improving communication and family relationships, providing skill education and integrative services. Their intensive outpatient program may also be indicated for individuals transitioning from residential treatment, as well as those who recognize their recovery may be at risk and require additional support.

Outpatient (OP)

Their outpatient program offers up to seven hours a week of individual, family and group therapy. It’s designed for those clients who may be transitioning from NYCFL’s intensive program, or those already receiving recovery support from other sources. Their outpatient program is also indicated for clients with an established period of sobriety who are seeking to maintain abstinence, expand coping skills and improve interpersonal relationships; all the while promoting self-awareness, psychological growth and emotional well-being.

Dual Diagnosis/Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person’s mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Treatment Types:

Individualized Treatment

Certain drug and alcohol rehab centers have standard treatment regimes they expect all patients to follow. Others offer individualized treatment, meaning they tailor treatment to a person’s specific background and needs. For example, a rehab facility may adjust a treatment program to take into account the type of drug or addiction from which the person suffers, their age, medical condition(s), religious beliefs, or lifestyle.

Family Program

New York Center for Living provides outpatient treatment for families of adolescents and young adults with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. The New York Center for Living also serves families seeking prevention strategies, substance use education, and interventions. add about families in treatment without kids.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. Individualized case management, drug testing and psychiatric services are available to support their clients’ maintenance of sobriety. These services are indicated for those who have successfully graduated from their outpatient programs.

Therapies Offered:

Rather than focusing solely on addiction, holistic therapy facilities treat patients in terms of their whole being. Holistic therapy is about more than just addiction and sobriety – it addresses the person’s life in its entirety, including career, physical, familial, and spiritual aspects.

Individual Therapy

Our individual program provides a strong foundation of one-on-one treatment, with the option to supplement care with a customizable level of group support. Clients have the option of incorporating supplemental family therapy, medication management, nutritional consultation and mindfulness training services.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Life Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
