From the moment I arrived, the staff were professional, compassionate, attentive, and made me feel like a person rather than just another patient. The doctors were excellent at explaining everything in a way that was easy to understand, and the different departments communicated with each other extremely well so that every decision about my care was coordinated and thoughtful. I especially want to recognize the nurses who provided exceptional care: Alexa, Faith, Carlette, Jenny, Samantha Z., and Jessica. Every one of them was attentive, kind, supportive, and checked on me frequently to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. The MRI team was also amazing. They explained how long each test would take, made sure I was comfortable throughout the process, and were incredibly encouraging and reassuring. Dr. Yasir El-Sherif from Neurology was absolutely AMAZING. He carefully tracked my symptoms, made thoughtful and accurate medical decisions, and coordinated directly with my neurologist outside the hospital. He was knowledgeable, down-to-earth, easy to speak with, and made sure I understood what was happening with my care. I also want to recognize Michael, who came in to clean my room several times and always asked if we needed anything. Even the security staff and transport staff who helped with the wheelchair were pleasant, friendly, and professional. What stood out most was how every department worked together and how every staff member made me feel seen, heard, and cared for. I highly recommend Staten Island University Hospital North to anyone who needs medical care. I am extremely grateful to the entire team for making a very stressful experience feel safe, organized, and compassionate. Anthony was so concerned he sent an ambulance to my apartment without hesitation because he was worried for my life. i agreed to go in the ambulance and thank God Anthony sent them. Neither was my struggle with addiction which I battled over a decade and the fight does not end. Silver Lake has not only fought by my side, but was the safe haven, support, and help I desperately needed. Some of these counselors are very special people and every single one of them are not just professional but make it so comfortable to talk as if you are talking to a good friend. I don’t know where I would be today if not for Silver Lake. Anthony Perrone the program supervisor is truly an amazing person, NP Sledge is also and I have met a lot of people on my path. I’m am still in the fight thanks to him and the staff at Silver Lake. Not just with substance abuse but general therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, anger management program, couples therapy which I am about to undergo excited to do so, and most importantly just the day to day support of the counselors. The day to day support and genuine care that this facility provides is hard to come by. My counselor is always adamant about the fact that he is always available to reach out to, and has proven that time and time again. I am beyond grateful for this place and people.
