About Stillwater VA Outpatient Clinic

Located in Stillwater, Oklahoma, is the Stillwater VA Outpatient Clinic. This outpatient clinic operates under the Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System and provides comprehensive care to veterans and their families if they’re dealing with medical, mental or behavioral health issues that are impacting their lives.

Services here happen in an outpatient setting and include primary health care support as well as mental health care services. If you’re struggling with drug or alcohol use, you can receive assessments and certain treatment services through their mental health care department.

This VA Clinic really stands out, though, because they can connect you to more robust services through the Oklahoma City VA Healthcare network if you need intensive support like residential treatment or medication assisted treatment.

Transportation Support Services

The Stillwater clinic works in partnership with the Disabled American Veterans and the County Veterans Affairs Agency to provide transportation services to veterans and their families. Through this, you can get to the clinic even if you don’t have reliable transportation.

Wraparound Comprehensive Care

The Stillwater Outpatient Clinic embodies the comprehensive approach to recovery that the larger Oklahoma City VA Healthcare network is known for. For example, through other outpatient clinics and their Oklahoma City VA Medical Center, you can get connected to social work services and community programs that can link you to housing, food security and other social support programs. Their approach to treatment is very much rooted in clinical services, but this wraparound holistic approach can also support you beyond just traditional addiction treatment.

All I can say is I have been overwhelmed with the warm reception I have received from the office in OKC and the clinic here in Stillwater. Very friendly, polite, and caring. I ve never liked Dr.s and doctors offices. But these people are turning an old man around!

Worst VA facility I have ever dealt with. No matter how many times you call or try to get ahold of anyone they will not call back.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehabs provide extra support for clients in early recovery and those at a high risk of relapse. They allow clients to focus on their sobriety safe from outside distractions, stressors, and addiction triggers. Clients reside at the treatment center for the length of their program, where they receive extensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family therapy. Many programs also offer robust life skills training and holistic therapies, such as meditation.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients participating in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) receive frequent, high-level care while living at home. Many enter intensive outpatient treatment immediately after leaving inpatient rehab, but some transition directly from detox into IOP. Treatment generally involves nine to 20 therapeutic hours per week and a combination of addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and evidence-based complementary care. Many outpatient rehabs also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) for clients with alcohol and/or opioid addiction.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is ideal for those with moderate to severe addictions who don't require 24-hour care. PHP treatment can be an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down option after hospital or residential care. During a partial hospitalization program, you'll engage in daily therapeutic services for a minimum of 20 hours a week with the ability to return home. The cost of a partial hospitalization program can vary but is often covered by providers.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs invoke spiritual principles to promote participants' psychological and emotional growth and healing, though religious affiliation is not required. Their primary treatment modalities include intensive peer support and recovery-focused life skills training based on the 12 steps of recovery. Participants regularly engage in peer-led group meetings, which are free, anonymous, and available throughout the day and night in most communities. Sponsors provide one-on-one mentoring as participants cultivate self-awareness, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
The safest way to remove addictive substances from your body after you've become physically dependent is through a medically assisted detox. Usually performed in an inpatient setting, a team of licensed medical professionals are tasked with monitoring your health and helping to minimize the risks and physical discomfort caused by withdrawal symptoms. Medically assisted detox is often the first step in the recovery process. After your body is safely free of substances, you'll likely transition to an inpatient treatment program to continue your recovery.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

You don't have to be an artist to engage in creative arts therapy in Oklahoma. Your therapist will help you explore various art media to find the best fit that allows you to express yourself. The goal is not to produce quality art but to use the process for healing and recovery.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Using recreational therapy in Oklahoma within a drug and alcohol addiction treatment program helps you find joy and purpose within healthy activities. These could include gardening, group games, team sports, and swimming. These activities promote relaxation and social interaction, which are crucial to sustain long term recovery.

I went to the clinic to get new hearing tests..I have had hearing aids for a long time..I have always had a problem with my hearing aids..This is the first time my hearing aids have been programmed correctly..The audiologist and especially the intern reprogrammed my existing hearing aids and set up an appointment to get new ones..The intern was the absolute best programmer and for the first time in over 25 years I can hear perfectly..

Called me 5 different times for a PCP appointment.. I still don’t have an appointment with them. The sand bagging here is real. I’d rather drive to OKC main hospital.

I’m SO very thankful for this facility and location. It’s easier to get to than OKC VA & great for follow ups, mental health, labs, meds. Everyone has always treated me kindly, respectfully, & have gone out of their way for me. It could use some updates to the guest bathroom but other than that I feel safe and comfortable here.

Today I walked in to do a simple transfer of VAs. The reception just looked at me with blank stares and handed me a paper with numbers to call. And when pressed with further questions one of the reception people lost their mind and showed no professionalism. After my first time walking into this VA I never want to go there again. If the people that are there can't help with something as easy as transferring VAs I'd hate to see them after you ask and real hard questions.
