About High Focus Centers Philadelphia (Center City) Outpatient Treatment Center

High Focus Treatment Centers used to be known as Rehab After Work. It’s an addiction treatment center for adolescents and adults in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They offer intensive outpatient services to help you live a life free of drugs and alcohol. They also offer special programs for people who are facing DUI charges. Payment is easy because they accept most private insurance plans and they’ll work with you to maximize your coverage.

One thing that really strikes me about this facility is that they’ll work around your schedule to make sure you can get the help you need. They offer outpatient counseling sessions in the morning, afternoon, and evening and you can even attend online if that’s easier for you. They only allow 12 people to participate in a session at a time, which should help you feel more comfortable opening up about your recovery journey. I also like that they encourage your friends and family members to attend counseling with you because that support is so important as you move forward.

In addition to talking about your addiction experience, you’ll also participate in workshops and exercises that help you build important life skills. Most people attend counseling for about two hours and 15 minutes a day for four days a week.

While some people who’ve gone through this program say communication and organization could be better, many reflect that they were able to get the help they needed through their counseling sessions.

I avoided group therapy for so long, but I am so glad I did. It was a safe place for me to go when I really wanted to isolate. I was worried I wouldn t be able to relate to others, but I always found some connection that helped me not feel so alone. Marisela is the best! She has a great sense of humor, is so supportive, and there is no fake or toxic positivity with her. Mari also helped connect us with resources, which can feel so daunting when you are in the thick of it. If you are considering group, do it!

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare. Rehab After Work & Rehab After School offers various outpatient therapy skills support and therapy groups designed for those that have abused drugs and/or alcohol in the past but are no longer using them. Some of these groups include age-specific groups, gender specific as well as co-ed groups, early recovery skills groups and co-dependency groups.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
These programs are designed for individuals that have been using drugs or alcohol and need frequent sessions to maintain abstinence. Some clients attend this outpatient addiction treatment program to gain control over their substance use problems before further inpatient treatment is required. Other clients attend this program as a step-down outpatient therapy option following an inpatient stay. During the client’s initial appointment or evaluation, they can help to determine which type of program is most appropriate and if an inpatient option is necessary, they can make recommendations at that time. Rehab After Work - Walnut Street's focus is on education, community building, and group therapy. Groups are kept to an average of 8 members so all individuals get the focus needed for successful outpatient therapy. Family members, parents, and/or support persons are required to be involved in the individual’s treatment and are counseled as well to help their loved ones succeed.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. In addition to Rehab After Work - Walnut Street's family outpatient therapy offered as part of the IOP, family therapy sessions are provided as individualized family therapy for the specific client and their family members. These appointments will be made as requested by the client, family, or counselor during the day or evening hours. Family therapy appointments can be made for any type of family members.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I have been in Melissa’s young adult group for the past month and it has been a wonderful experience! She has an amazing way with words that have allowed me to think in ways that I haven’t before. She’s also a very kind person and really listens to everyone in the group when we are sharing or discussing anything. When I think of someone that’s a perfect fit for their job I’ll always think of Melissa even for years after I have finished with her group, she’s that impactful!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you for taking the time to provide comments. We take pride in the quality of the services we provide, and it brings us joy when our program succeeds in helping clients achieve and sustain recovery.

I went here for IOP and it changed my view on therapy. My therapist Melissa was kind, thoughtful, and caring to the Nth degree. She helped me process and put things in a different perspective that I never would have done before. I highly recommend her program to any young adults seeking IOP.

They called and told me that their intake therapist filed a report mistakenly with CPS after I discussed my OWN childhood and she confused with current children from my family business. The mistakes were so egregious their PHP manager and therapist Joe called me immediately after they figured out that wasn’t what was said. They apologized profusely and gave me the case numbers but would not have the employee (the named them to me) withdraw the report “to protect my employee”. I have now had to endure CPS interviewing disabled children and families and our employees, even though my persistence and allowance of investigation helped unsubstantiate it. They forced an autistic patient to have to deal on their own with their awful mistakes, and I’ve been suffering and obviously have lost care because how could someone ever trust a therapist in PA again? I WILL be pushing this tot he end because I cannot let another horrific mistake like this go swept under the rug.

The receptionist Patty was the bright start to the day. Some therapists are better than others but over all I did gain support and take aways from the group sessions.

I participated in php here. It was a good experience overall, but the other group members were the biggest help. Pattie at the front desk is delightful and super helpful with logistical stuff. Sometimes it was a bit disorganized and a couple of the counselors were unhelpful, although other counselors had some good insights and useful activities.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

They’re focused on billing your insurance as much as possible and providing as few services as they can get away with. I wish I had gone to a different program, I didn’t feel like I got better or received the supports they promised.

I loved the therapist I had in my group therapy outpatient sessions but their billing department is absolutely incompetent, does not listen to you and incorrectly billed my insurance. I spoke with dozens of people, all of whom told me conflicting information, incorrect information. I have started to pay my bill so that my balance does not get sent to collections but they still have not corrected the error THEY made. It's been a truly infuriating experience and it was not worth the treatment. I could have definitely gotten the same care elsewhere without the absolutely horrible billing experience that honestly kept me up at night several times.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi Hayley Brooks, we regret when our services are not up to the standards we strive for. We appreciate you bringing this situation to our attention. If you are willing, please contact us at reviews@pyramidhc.com so we can work towards a resolution. We look forward to hearing from you.

Horrible experience. I just wanted to get help but this place is incredibly incompetent and disorganized. They screwed up multiple times when I was trying to get assessed / scheduled for php. Then they have the nerve to keep charging you. Total waste of time.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi Erik L, we appreciate your honest review. We set a high standard for ourselves, and we are disappointed when we fail to deliver to those standards.
