I went in for a examination of my neck, I had an MRI with me that no one ever looked at. I got there just after 8am. I waited in the emergency room on a stretcher for twelve hours where they confirmed that I had Sleep apnea but at no time gave me a cap machine the whole time there. They told me I had prostate cancer in the emergency. I was put in ICU and a private room just to run up the bill. After three days and one morning they charged me $71000.00.I none of the test take was went over. I was told I had another cancer without going over any tests. It was a nightmare.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients who are exiting inpatient rehab, those who are experiencing crisis, and those who prefer to live at home while in treatment typically enroll in intensive inpatient programs (IOP). These programs feature frequent and robust care, generally requiring clients to participate in at least nine hours of care weekly, though many intensive outpatient rehabs offer up to 20 treatment hours per week. IOP services typically combine individual, group, and family counseling with recovery education and holistic therapies.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term, intensive outpatient option designed for those with moderate to severe addictions who don't require 24-hour care. PHP treatment is often fully covered by insurance and provides structured programming (i.e. individual and group therapy). A typical partial hospitalization program can meet 3-5 days a week for a minimum of 20 hours, offering intensive treatment during the day while allowing you to return home after. PHP treatment duration can vary based on your progress but averages 90 days.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
A medical detox is the safest way to wean your body off addictive substances. When you become physically dependent on alcohol or drugs, quitting abruptly can cause a host of challenging and uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. In medically assisted detox, a team of medical professionals will be on hand to monitor any symptoms, to provide medication if possible, and to help keep you as safe and as comfortable as possible throughout this process.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy provides a structure to approach healing from past traumatic events that you may have witnessed or experienced. Your therapist will work with you to identify and process these memories. This helps promote a sense of safety and stability and helps you heal emotionally.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

In mid May 2025 I had a tumor removed from my left kidney by Dr Elsamra (who is great and I reviewed him separately). This is about the staff during my recovery. They are fantastic ! Jannella, McKayla, Kim,Sue, Janet, Gloria and Slair are the names I have from the board in my room (#1150) . I'm sure I'm missing a few but everyone took great care of me. Due to the surgery I needed help for getting out of bed, walking and to even have water. Any time I rang the bell / buzzer someone promptly asked my need on the speaker and they came by shortly thereafter to help. Literally they were smiling and compassionate every time from 11:00 PM when I first woke up in the room to noontime when the hospital is quite busy. I am blessed to have been attended to so well by such a great group of professionals ! Thanh you all very much !

I've been here for almost a week. I will never come back. No diagnosis. I have a limb alert on my right arm from Breast cancer and Lymph node removal, yet they proceeded to take blood from that arm. They stuck me in my left arm about 15-20 times, until I refused. My roommate was 92 and choking- I heard them laughing. Robert Hood isn't just in New Brunswick. I'll die before I come back here. Good luck future patients. I've filed a complaint and I'm not done.

Care that could be more compassionate. My son was injured in a bad cycling accident at the Tour of Somerville and he broke his collarbone. My wife rode with him in the ambulance. When I arrived they would not let me in to see him because he was not a minor, and because of this, they allow just one visitor. When my mother has been hospitalized multiple times at Holy Name Hospital, even though my father is with her in the ER, I'm still allowed to join them to check in on her. Getting back to this hospital, had my 16-year-old son, the sibling of the patient, who is not allowed to go into the ER because you have to be 18 years or older. When I asked if he could go in with a parent, he said that the policy is "No" unless one of us goes into the ER and asks the nurse and then the nurse calls out to security to say it is okay. Close-knit families are not appreciated here.

Have you seen “capturing the killer nurse” on Netflix? If not, it explains a lot of these reviews and why this hospital among every other hospital shouldn’t be trusted. Interesting that Mary Lund is still an important part of your hospital.

As a regular donor at RWJ Somerset, This time I decided to donate platelets. The process was fairly easy and took approximately one hour. Millie Started me off with the standard questionnaire, and then hooked me up to the platelet machine. She was absolutely Wonderful and kept checking on me and asking me if I needed anything snacks juice, water, etc. After a few minutes, the manager Cathy came in to see how everything was going with me and other people that were there donating blood. Everybody was very friendly and welcoming. After that, Dr. Stanford, the director of The lab and blood donation program came in and personally thanked everybody For donating. Thank you to the Staff at RWJ Somerset For making it a pleasant experience. REMEMBER ONE PINT DONATED SAVES UP TO THREE LIVES!!!!

I highly recommend Steven Lyon at RWJ Somerset Sports Physical Therapy Center. He was very knowledgeable, and after a thorough initial examination developed a treatment plan to address my knee pain. The treatment included manual therapy and targeted exercises twice a week, plus a list of exercises to do at home. The therapy was very effective, I experienced an improvement after only a couple sessions. After six weeks the knee pain is completely gone. Everyone at the Center was very friendly. I would highly recommend Steven to anyone seeking physical therapy.

Thanks to Diane, Millie, Priscilla, and Cathy (Wiedwald) for an absolutely welcoming donor experience. I’ve donated blood products for 46 years, well over 500 times, and this was one of the best. Attentive service, comfortable setting, tasty snacks, close to home, cool giveaways and rewards, easy scheduling. Just wish I could donate more than once a month!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Hi Andy, thank you so much for your donation! We appreciate your review and will certainly share it with our Blood Donor Room team. Thank you and we hope to see you again soon!

Terrible experience. Went for back pain near my kidneys. They did bloodwork, urine test and CT scan ALL of which came back with multiple abnormal findings. I got zero answers and was instead told “we’re just here to rule out the bad stuff like a heart attack and blood clots.” Never again will I come here or any RWJ hospital or office.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
