About Three Rivers Midlands – Residential Services

Kids and adolescents involved in residential treatment receive 24/7 supervision and care in this 64-bed facility. Rather than solely focusing on participants’ behavioral issues, staff seek to help clients achieve overall well being so they can lead happy, healthy and community oriented lives. Participants may stay in residential treatment anywhere from two weeks to six months, depending on their needs.

KARS (Kids Achieving Resilience and Success Program) is a short-term, co-ed program for participants struggling with significant behavioral, cognitive, emotional, familial or social functioning. Staff use the Kimochis program to equip kids with the tools they need to cope with emotions in a healthier manner.

KEYS (Knowledge and Excellence for Youth Success) is another short-term, co-ed program for youth 11 and up. It’s not appropriate for participants whose primary diagnosis is substance use, but it is suitable for those with a secondary diagnosis of addiction.

New Horizons is the female-only residential treatment program for girls 11 and up with severe problems, such as substance use, that may endanger themselves or others. In addition to therapy, participants receive basic life skills training to help them live independently after treatment. The Synergy program is just like New Horizons, but for males only.

Kids at the facility also all have access to therapeutic activities, including outings, bowling, movies and events like talent shows and Friendsgiving. Additionally, they take part in online classes from Acellus Academy, a reputable and accredited institution, to ensure they don’t fall behind in their studies.

I was discharged from Midlands about a year ago, and I can only say my experience was awful, to say the least. I was there for about a month during the most difficult time in my life and it didn't really help me at all. There were multiple times where staff PHYSICALLY hurt me, weather that being grabbing me extremely hard and pulling me out of bed, or twisting my arm and holding it painfully behind my back. Most of the staff was rude, ESPECIALLY Mrs. Kenya And Miss Fatima. And one of the staff-I can't remember his name but he told me that if I 'actually wanted to kms' there was a brick wall over there I could bash my head into. Some of the staff were actually extremely nice though! Like Miss Celina and Mrs Latoya! The days were exhausting and most of the time I found myself bored, drawing in my journal with the provided dried-up markers, half without lids, since they wouldn't let me use my own. Phone time? Awful. The phones barely worked and were like 20 years old. There was also a boy in the same unit as me during my time there making me uncomfortable and nobody did anything about it. He talked to me multiple times about all the weird and dirty things he wanted to do with me. I expressed this to the staff and they did nothing. I made out with a few girls there though. That was cool. Anyways, yeah. If you're thinking of sending your kid here, don't. Find somewhere else, anywhere else. Please.

Please do not send your child here! This is nothing but a prison! The staff members are not honest at all ! All they do is tell you lies. Staff is abusive to the kids. This place needs to be investigated and closed down immediately. They will take your child’s belongings (shoes etc) and point out that 3 rivers is not responsible for lost or stolen property. All the kids do is fight in there with no consequences what so ever not even for a stabbing ! They don’t report anything or call the police because they know there is abuse, violence and neglect going on in their by staff . If your child or grandchild needs help for trauma please do not send them to Three Rivers because this place is even more traumatic. It changes them & they adapt to the toxic environment. Then you have to take them to get help from the help they went there to get . This review is me being nice

Three Rivers Midlands – Residential Services works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

24-hour clinical care in South Carolina is designed to protect those in recovery from health risks of withdrawal. For example, opioid withdrawal can cause vomiting and diarrhea that results in a life-threatening level of dehydration. Withdrawal from benzodiazepines can cause seizures which can be fatal. To avoid these risks, supervised medical detox is recommended. Under this care, medical professionals constantly monitor patients to ensure a safe detox process.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Specialized dual-diagnosis treatment programs in South Carolina can help individuals looking for substance abuse treatment. Dual-diagnosis simply means treating individuals struggling with addiction and any other mental health problems, like anxiety. These conditions often co-occur and treating them at the same time can dramatically improve your odds of success. You can typically expect these addiction treatment programs to utilize evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), with skill-based education to enhance your coping skills and improve your overall well-being.

Programs

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

My therapist always looked like he just wanted to hurry up and go to lunch, he was not really interested in listening to my issues. I felt it was a waste of money and time, I did not progress at all.

If their priority were honestly patients, things would be so different. Staff loved to eat fast food and talked about inappropriate things in front of the residents (no confidentiality). No one bothers to help you, you are only punished for your addictions

Editing this sorry my fault i normally dont but they way they broke my arms i didnt get too specific so i drew a diagram showing i was put in a cruxifix kind of position then got my legs kicked out while being held like this breaking my arms giving them fractures so i still felt the pain unlike a clean break. Jesus still loves yall by the way. My heart to anyone else who went during the 2019-20 year.. as we were kept during lockdown. Also i still remeber all the names shout out my dawg d.j and Godbless val... she went through hell on earth in there. I still got the short end of the stick. I have videographic and photo graphic memory so i remember alot since i was two. I think there is a name for that but i forgot the name.. anyways Jesus loves yall. ✝️❤️ it I went here back in 2020 as a teen and they beat me they broke my arms and then also put me on heavy pills so I would sleep they kept us locked in there they beat the other kids for no reason my roommate or cell mate cause we were not allowed out got swung into the brick wall head first by a staff for coming out. We were not allowed any TV time and we were not allowed to make paper airplanes either as that was one thing we found fun but once they saw we were having fun they took all the paper away one time I had to use the bathroom while we were outside and they laughed at me and told me to go on myself so I did then they laughed again. Also one time we were locked in the living room cause a young lady got mad when we came out there was a blood trail on the floor. Happy I got the lucky end with just beatings and broken arms I could have ended up like that girl where nothing was left of her but a simple blood trail on the floor only to be washed away by a mop. also if you got to call your parents (rarely happens) and tell them about the abuse they cut the line then they re call after your brought back to your room and they tell them everythings ok. do not send your kids here as i was abused as countless others were and i witnessed a murder #rip. also either a new fence was in or its a fake photo but this is what we had. A tall fence that made it hard to get out it was taller than the building.
