About A New Life Christian Counseling

A New Life Christian Counseling is a small faith-based practice in Vancouver, Washington, that mixes clinical therapy with Christian teachings. It’s not a full spectrum mental health clinic, but if you’re looking for outpatient counseling grounded in Christian principles, this place might be a good fit. They work with both individuals and families and they cover a broad age range from kids as young as four all the way to adults. It started out in 2005.

Unique Services for Recovery

The core of their work is individual therapy, with some clinicians offering family sessions, marriage counseling, and conflict resolution. Their style is more personal and conversational than clinical, and their team includes both licensed therapists and pastoral counselors. One staffer stated, “I strive to provide clinically and spiritually sound counsel, support, and guidance to those in need, as well as partner with and empower other Christian therapists who seek to do the same.”

A few of their counselors also specialize in navigating school systems for kids who are struggling emotionally or academically, which might be helpful for parents. A team member said, “As an educator, I can help families navigate through the school system, while providing a safe, non-judgmental space for each child through careful listening and observation, and by forming an authentic, trusting, and compassionate relationship where understanding and healing can begin.”

The practice isn’t built for handling severe psychiatric issues or crisis-level care. Former clients mention that the services may not go deep enough for serious mental health conditions, but others highlight the warmth and compassion of the staff, especially around emotional and spiritual struggles.

Getting Covered in the Pacific Northwest

While they might take major insurances, one of their counselors, Brad Peterson, is in-network with Providence and United. Fees range depending on the provider, and they do have sliding scale options for people working with interns. Most people are paying out of pocket, so it’s important to check ahead if cost is a concern.

They’ve got two locations, one in Vancouver and another in Wilsonville, Oregon, and they offer secure telehealth sessions if you’re not nearby. The counseling approach is structured but personal: build trust, explore what’s going on, identify what needs to change, and work toward healing. It’s a gentle, steady model for people who want support that doesn’t separate therapy from faith.

One of my friends decided to seek help here. He didn't feel that they were capable of treating serious mental health issues. He left disappointed and thankfully was able to get help somewhere else.

We've seen Ray Jensen for a total of 9 months now. I cannot say enough about his patience, kindness, and ability. He is a fantastic marriage counselor who has seen us through the lowest moments in our marriage. I think we both agree, if it wasn't for Ray, we'd have floundered. He brings excellent tools to the table, great homework, and lots of wise advise. God does heal relationships. It's just that sometimes it takes a good counselor to help you pick up the broken pieces. Thank you for seeing us into this new chapter in our life.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
