About American Addiction Treatment Center Newport News

Medication assisted treatment consists of meds that can help you with your withdrawal pains and cravings. Prescriptions like buprenorphine and methadone are given based on your clinical needs. You’re supervised during the dosing so there’s little chance of overdose or any negative effects.

Your medication assisted treatment is also supplemented with counseling. This can take several forms, such as individual and group therapy, motivational interviewing, 12 Step groups, cognitive behavioral therapy, and career coaching. Counseling can also be done via Telehealth, so you’ll be able to use your cell phone or tablet to get treatment.

The facility is open in the mornings for dosing, with counseling taking place in the mornings and early afternoons. They’re accredited by CARF and recently by NAATP, so you know your treatment meets a professional standard.

it's a mostly good place. not all the staff are my favorite, but that's going to happen anywhere. the new director was handed a pile of mess and is trying to make the best of it while making things better at the same time, and she's doing the best she can with what she was given from what I can tell. most of these patients just don't have.... patience. I've seen them corner staff members and scream at them for being held outside while a patient is having a medical emergency in the lobby. they only care about themselves, and there are no employees or security on drugs or smoking pot outside. I'm hopeful they can get to a place where they can have a really good crew that stays for a long time and works cohesively together. I'm glad this clinic is here for those of us that need it. the only staff member I truly have an issue with is a counselor (?) Sarah. I'm not sure what her problem is but she looks at us and treats us like we're just a bunch of junkies and nothing more. she is rude to clinic patients, she's not understanding to any situation, she lies to patients just so she doesn't have to do something, or even try, and the worst one: she also breaks HIPAA - her office is right off the lobby & if you're standing there, you can hear both sides of her entire Zoom call therapy appointments because she keeps her door wide open during these calls. I heard everything one young woman said in her appointment, very personal things. she should be ashamed of herself. the behavior I have seen from her is honestly unacceptable, and I don't believe this is the job for her. if you think addicts are beneath you, you shouldn't be working here Sarah.

New director is disrespectful, sarcastic, starts issues, doesn't resolve anything, intimidated by patients, and has let the program go to crap! All the staff that we have come to know and like have been replaced with addicts fresh out of recovery with less clean time than I. I am ok with an addict in recovery as a counselor but with myself being more advanced I don't see how their going to assist in my recovery

Accepted Insurance

Please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

American Addiction Treatment Center Newport News works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Once involved in a 12 step recovery program, clients can commit to a model of life-long recovery rooted in spiritual growth and intensive peer support. 12 step meetings are anonymous, peer-led, free, and accessible day and night, year-round, in most communities. Self-selected sponsors provide one-on-one coaching as participants work through the steps of recovery. These steps are based on spiritual principles used to address the origins of the addiction and to encourage self-compassion, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability.

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Virginia is a short term form of talk therapy. Participants usually have homework between sessions, which may include journaling, self talk, and setting SMART goals. The aim is to transform negative thought patterns into positive ones.

Men and women in Virginia use individual therapy to focus on addiction related challenges as a necessary part of their drug and alcohol addiction treatment. Your therapist guides you in developing coping strategies, setting realistic goals, and building a strong foundation for an improved quality of life.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Motivational interviewing in Virginia allows clients to examine their lives and consider their options. It is particularly useful if the client lacks confidence in their ability to change or is feeling uncertain about their desire to change.

Accreditations

Don't believe anything they tell you or anything you can read in their web page, they just don't care for their patients and will do everything as quick as possible just to finish their shifts. That wasn't the kind of treatment I received.

*I know this is long, but it's detailed. I hope someone high up sees it and tries to correct some of these issues. There's other stuff to share but this the important problems. I have been here a few years now. I absolutely love my counselor. Anything I've asked of her she's gone up and above the task at hand. I also believe she's the one who has been there consistently since I started this program. As for the Doctor, he's awesome. Blunt and to the point. I really wish we would see Dr. Mayor's face more. the Nurse Practitioner is very kind and easy to talk to. Lately we have see his face with more one on one. I know that I have told him the same thing several times we still manage to go over it all over again. Really it's a waste of time. I feel like if we have an issue that's unrelated to the actual medication, we should see our counselor and go from there. I believe we should still have to sit down with him from time to time but ever few weeks is a bit redundant. I would suggest 3 months. As for Nurse Q, I've very glad that she's here. No BS and to the point. I miss seeing her face while dosing us but I know she's in there kicking ass in another way. Now with that said... The lady before her Ranata. She was just as great as Nurse Q and corporate screwed her and pushed her out the door. The last 3 front Desk people you've had and I'm sorry for describing her this way because I can't remember her name. She was very well dressed, light skin female, and on the larger size. She was great! Well she got pushed out when a new director started. The lady after her ran this place it seemed. I'm not sure where she disappeared to. Now Brittany! She really did run this place with Q while corporate was trying to figure out what to do themselves. Not just that but of course another new director. SMH Well now she's gone. Now all of us patient's have to start over getting use to a new person and by the way the last 3 including the 2 now can't find their own a$$. You can tell when both are over whelmed in their body language and attitude. If they don't get some tuff skin and be able to fake the funk then they're not going to last. The new director seems to think putting up a memory wall is a good idea. Yeah for the people who what to be reminded everyday of the loved ones they lost. Think about the other have that has serve PTSD and it messes with them daily. Uhm... And taking chairs away like we're children?! Wow!!! Y'all are worried about people nodding out or sleeping. There should be a camera in the dosing room where the nurses can look to see for themselves if they should be dosed. Altimently it's up to them it's their license. Not only that but security shouldn't be letting them sleep. So what's going to happen when it's raining or super cold?People sometimes have to wait for an hour or more for their insurance rides. Then breakfast! Next thing you'll know we'll have the homeless who aren't in the program. Ms. New Director, understand throwing money around on food and decorating isn't going to help anyone in this program. Maybe the food for some but I do see that becoming an issue. If you could get some good counselors in here that would be great or at least ones that will stay. That turn over rate is insane. Why don't you take a pill on a few things that need to change that people want and go from there. Oh and holiday closings were put up in color paper people would actually read it because it's no different than what's already hanging up. Appointments with the Doc, NP, and or counselor's should be noted in our account when checking in a day or a few days before they want to meet. We have jobs too. I'm done, back to our normal schedule.
