Hello, my name is Michael Riccio. I was placed here in March of 2023 and discharged February of 2024. I was originally in the shelter until, but moved up to the RTF a few months later. This program is excellent for teens that struggle with mental health. My experience was amazing. Staff are polite, calm, understandable, etc. They do a lot of fun things, such as going to parks, going out to eat, baseball games, etc. They have helpful groups every weekday that impower clients to make a better version of themselves. I've done some stupid things while I was here like running away, but I was given a second chance and took advantage of it. I'm giving this place a 5 star rating because this placed changed me in a way that no where else could've. No placement is perfect, but this is one of the best placements in PA. Thank you to all the staff and clinicians who guided to become a better person

Overall, we've had a decent experience working with CHOR. This is my son's third placement and the only one that seems to want to help him. However, I do have some major complaints and concerns that are not being addressed.Security staffing is severely lacking. There have been times I have shown up for a scheduled visit and there is no one to let me in because there is no one working security. There have also been times I've tried to call to speak with my son and no one answers due to insufficient staffing in the security office. This is highly concerning.Every month there is one or more treatment meetings to discuss progress and changes or updates to the current treatment plan. I have no say in when these are scheduled, but I am expected to attend. These are often scheduled early on a weekday. I work a very dangerous and demanding job and would have to take an entire unpaid day off work to attend these. I have asked many times for these to be scheduled after 3 pm and I'm told it can not be done due to the doctor's schedule. My son's grandmother has been attending in my place, but she has no rights to make decisions and information then becomes lost through the middle man. I can not afford to take one or more unpaid days a month to attend these and I don't know how other parents do. Staff has also called me uncooperative because I refuse to risk my job for an hour long meeting.Outside of these concerns, I do feel this is the right place for my son. I do like the doctor and trust her. My son's clinician is also very kind and efficient.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We truly appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear that you feel our program is the right fit for your son and that you have trust in his doctor and clinician. It is always our goal to provide the best care and support for the children and families we serve. We sincerely apologize for the concerns you ve raised regarding security staffing and the scheduling of treatment meetings. Your concerns are valid, and we understand the impact these challenges have on your experience. Regarding security staffing, we recognize how important it is to ensure that visitors feel welcomed and supported during scheduled visits and phone calls. Our security staff are not dedicated to monitor the front door for visitors but they also play a key role in keeping staff and kids safe by assisting on the floor or on the property. We are actively working to address your issues to ensure a more seamless experience for families moving forward. On the matter of treatment meeting schedules, we understand how difficult it can be to balance work obligations with the need to participate in these important discussions. While we strive to accommodate all families, we recognize the need to improve flexibility where possible. We are at the mercy of the Doctor and are looking to explore ways to better meet the needs of working parents like yourself. Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention. Your feedback helps us identify areas where we can improve and ensure that we continue to meet the needs of the families we serve. Please don t hesitate to reach out directly if you would like to discuss your concerns further or explore alternative solutions where possible. Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

My daughter had a very positive experiance the first time she was there but years later and we desperately needed help again and they do not return phone calls after calling numerous times. I sent insurance information and never heard from them again. I was advised by school and therepist and hospital to enroll her again and had cps on my doorstep for not taking her in and i voiced this to childrens home and still no response

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you for your review and we take them seriously. I have escalated this to our leadership. You are welcome to give me a call at 610-478-8266, ext. 1249 to discuss.

this place was disgusting. any time i had a panic attack nobody was there to help and they would claim i was “seeking attention” all but like 3 of the staff there were very rude. i would constantly get called out by them. the food there was disgusting and the kitchen director was extremely rude. it was not clean AT ALL and i would wake up in the middle of the night to bugs on my pillow. i honestly do not recommend this place no matter how local it is. especially if your child will be placed on the girls unit. i do however want to thank Christian Crutchfeilds, Nayla Alfonso and Jovani (i never caught his last name) for helping our unit and treating us as individuals rather than a group. there are definitely weirdos who work there so watch out. -paityn meadows

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, Paityn. We are committed to providing a supportive and caring environment for all of our clients, and it’s disappointing to hear you didn’t have a positive experience.<br>While we strive to maintain high standards of care and cleanliness, we take all concerns seriously. We would be happy to discuss this further to better understand your experience. Please feel free to reach out directly to our management team so we can work to resolve any issues.

I was 15-16 when I was there and it was the best rtf I was ever in I was up on the third floor in a single room having some serious issues when I decided to rip all the dry wall off the walls I also remember getting my fingers shut in the door during a lockdown bc one of the other kids was having issues to and I didn't want to be in the group room so I tried to push my way out and the process got my fingers accidentally shut in the door horrible pain I also remember having a garden in between the north and west wing I was on the west wing my window looked over the back parking lot and my garden it was my happy place

At first I thought this place was wonderful until after my child being there a year and half she came home with 3 facial piercings and the excuse was she said they where there prior, hun they where not there when I just seen here 6 months ago and they were not there when she showed up a year and a half ago! This also meant you did nothing knowing she pierced herself! We are now dealing with a boy claiming to be her boyfriend calling my husbands phone from the CHOR number and writing letters using an envelope with CHORS information and paid my CHOR. My husband also is getting texted messages from this boy on a Saturday. So clearly they do not follow their own rules that state NO Jewelry and NO Electronics, NO Romantic Relationships! I want someone to answer for these issues but I am sure they will just get brushed under the rug!

I just recently got successfully discharged from chor and honestly it is probably one of the best residential treatment facilities you will find in pa. the majority of the staff really do care and try to make sure you are safe, even though they don't get paid nearly enough. i will say that the grtf unit does not get nearly as much as the boys units (rtf, srtf, and clemente) do. for example, over the summer i witnessed the boys go to the pool every week like clockwork, while the grtf clients were told that “we didnt have the money.” the boys units were constantly going on outings while the girls were stuck on the unit doing nothing. the grtf staff did try to make the best of it and bring water balloons and other fun things to do. im pretty sure this is pretty common, but the food is absolute trash. (im kinda picky though) the only thing that i would really want to see change though is the staffs pay. they are so underpaid and they go through so much in this job. they have to deal with kids trying to get into fights and they can sometimes be attacked themselves. shoutout to ms. clara, ms. klarissa, ms. yami, and mr. jermaine, for always helping me out when i needed something :) <3
