About BMS Family Health and Wellness Center

It can be painful and dangerous to use heroin and other opioid drugs. In addition to saving you money and reducing your risk of overdosing, MAT with Suboxone can help you stay away from potentially lethal street drugs that contain fentanyl. To determine whether Suboxone is right for you, you can schedule a consultation with a counselor.

In partnership with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, they offer an opioid overdose prevention program. They provide the East New York Community with free life-saving Narcan (naloxone), which is an emergency medication that stops heroin and prescription painkiller overdose deaths. They don’t require a prescription to offer free Naloxone. Ask a staff member if you want to carry naloxone.

Their guidance is based on a collection of useful tactics and concepts meant to lessen the harmful effects of drug use. Their team also helps patients who have physical, cognitive, language, or other limitations by assisting them in advocating for and applying for high quality services.

The facility is authorized under the Federal Tort Claims Act. They offer a sliding fee scale according to family size and income. Services are never refused to patients because of their insurance, immigration status or financial situation.

Dear BMS Clinic Team, I wanted to share some feedback about my recent experience at your clinic. I called earlier today around 1 PM to confirm your closing time and was informed by the receptionist that you would be closing at 5 PM, instead of the usual 7 PM. However, when I arrived at the clinic at 3 PM, I encountered a few issues. There was no one at the front desk initially, and when the staff member arrived, I was informed that there were no providers available for the day and that I would need to return the next morning. This situation was confusing and inconvenient, especially since I was not informed in advance about the unavailability of providers. Clear communication would have helped me avoid the trip and better plan my visit. I hope this feedback can help improve the coordination and communication at the clinic in the future. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Best regards, Kay. R

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehabs provide a space for clients to focus exclusively on their recovery while receiving intensive supervision and support. Inpatient treatment centers provide housing and food and most offer round-the-clock clinical care. Their primary treatment modalities typically consist of addiction counseling using various psychotherapeutic methods, including CBT, DBT, RBT, and motivational interviewing. Many rehabs also provide specialized services for clients with co-occurring addiction and mental illness. Recovery-focused life skills training and holistic therapies are other common services.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Medical detox involves weaning your body off of addictive substances in a medically supervised environment. If you've become dependent on alcohol and/or drugs, quitting on your own can be uncomfortable and even dangerous. In medically assisted detox, a team of licensed medical professionals will help manage potential withdrawal symptoms, ensuring that you're as safe and comfortable as possible. This process typically takes about 5-7 days, although the length will depend on your individual needs.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients who enroll in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) are typically either in early recovery or are experiencing a crisis that increases their relapse risk. These programs promote clients' sustained sobriety through robust support, including multiple, extended care sessions per week. Intensive outpatient treatment often encompasses an array of services, including psychotherapy, recovery education, and evidence-based holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and meditation. Many outpatient rehabs also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT).

12-step icon12-Step

Participants in 12 step programs maintain access to community-based peer support, which is the programs' primary treatment modality. 12 step recovery combines personal growth with paper coaching. Participants regularly attend group meetings, which are free, anonymous, open to the public, and available multiple times per day in most communities. They are also mentored by self-selected sponsors who guide them through the steps of recovery. Age and gender specific and other specialized formats are common.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nice Experience

Although the wait was about 35 min, I got to see the nurses who took my blood pressure and saw the dr to get my refills and get an xray of my bad shoulder. I saw Dr. Picney and Dr. Lowe, at Rockaway Ave they were both good and helped me out with my problems.

🚨I only went here once so I don't really like giving reviews on one day experience because it can be anything that occurred, like a worker having a bad day, low number of staff, maintenance issues & this could be a good place.. but im going to give my review of when i went there last month. My care navigator booked me an appointment with one of their providers & scheduled medical transportation. She schedule me for this location. When I went there i had to wait on this long line in the lobby. I am disabled with a cane & that was very hard for me. 🚩The staff members seen me struggling & said nothing. There was over 10 people on this line, 2 staff members slowly checking us in while lally gaggin. Finally when I get to the front of the desk.. The male receptionist decides he has to get up & go to the back for some reason.. now i have to wait for the woman to finish with the questions & appointments of another person before she could help me🙄. Then when it was my turn idk if it was because I was already in pain or because it really took long for them to take my information down & give me this booklet of questions to sign my life away.. after I finished I didn't stand on the line again due to my pains I just went to the desk & put the clipboard down & sat down. I WAITED NEARLY 2 HOURS.. .. Before the receptionist called me & told that the doctor is am suppose to see is at another location. I have a 15 minute grace period & the other location is roughly 15 minutes away. Thats now how medical transportation works so I had to reschedule & i wasn't making it to the other location. Even though this wasn't there mishaps I could have probably made it on the bus or something if they didn't take so long to sign me in & inform me.

Response from the owner
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We genuinely appreciate your thoughtfulness in acknowledging that sometimes a single visit may not fully reflect the quality of care an organization provides. Still, we are deeply sorry to hear about the challenges you faced during your visit.

Your feedback is very concerning to us, especially regarding the lack of timely assistance and the physical discomfort you experienced while waiting in line. We sincerely apologize for the delays at check-in and the miscommunication about the provider’s location. We understand how frustrating it must have been to wait so long only to find out that your appointment was scheduled elsewhere.

Please know that we are actively reviewing this situation with our team to address the issues you’ve raised, including improving our front desk efficiency, ensuring staff are more attentive to the needs of patients with disabilities, and reinforcing timely communication regarding appointment details.

If you would be open to discussing this further, we’d love the opportunity to make things right. Please feel free to contact our Patient Experience Team directly at patientrelations@bmsfhc.org.

Dr. Blake is great! He was extremely patient with me during my appointment and explained everything to me in terms I could understand. Even the nurses drawing blood was kind and quick! I felt comfortable throughout my whole appointment and left feelings relieved and reassured by BMS staff. Thank you!

The lack of communication is disappointing, if your child’s provider calls out you won’t know until you arrive at the appointment. If you come for a 9am appointment be prepared to not be seen until 10:30. As someone who has been coming here for years it’s sad to see a decline in the service rather than progress. The only thing that seemed to be getting “better” with the place is the freshly painted walls and new tile floors.

Response from the owner
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the frustration and inconvenience you experienced. As a longstanding patient, your continued support means a great deal to us, and we’re truly sorry to hear that your recent visit did not meet expectations. We would welcome the opportunity to speak with you to address your concerns and restore your confidence in our care. Please email us at clientrelations@bmsfhc.org and a member of our team will reach out to you.

I will no longer be going to BMS for my medical needs. Dr. Pinckney is rude and unprofessional. He is also a liar. I asked him to prescribe a weight loss drug. He prescribed the wrong dosage the first time which I had to bring to his attention after a whole month of waiting and doing my own research. When I came back a month later he writes the correct one just to tell me a few weeks that the prescription will not approved because of tariffs. He had no intention of putting the prescription through that is why he prescribed the incorrect dosage in the first place. BMS doctors are the worst.

Response from the owner
We value our stakeholders and pride ourselves in delivering quality care, support, and service. Thanks for informing us of your experience. A member of our team will reach out to you for more details to support the review of your concerns. You can also reach us at clientrelations@bmsfhc.org. Thank you.

Everyone from security to the reception was very pleasant and professional. Even though I couldn't see the dentist, they informed with the information that I needed. If I were to change my medical coverage,I would definitely change to a coverage that the clinic uses.
