About Central Nassau Guidance and Counseling Services, Inc.

Central Nassau Guidance and Counseling Services is a nonprofit Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic in Hicksville, New York. They provide specialized mental health and substance use disorder treatment for residents of Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Integrated Care through Clinical Outpatient Services

Their outpatient services provide integrated care for children, adolescents and adults who have been impacted by mental health or substance use disorders. Their clinical team will work with individuals to create a treatment plan to meet their unique needs. This includes individual and group counseling and family therapy.

Proven MAT Support

Additionally, they offer services for individuals who may need detox and medication assisted treatment (MAT) due to opioid, alcohol or benzodiazepine addiction. The use of FDA approved medications to help ease withdrawal symptoms often experienced in early recovery, not only makes the process less stressful by normalizing brain chemistry and stabilizing body functions. The use of MAT has been shown to reduce the risk of relapse and decrease the risk of overdose death.

Case Management and Community Connections

The case management team will help individuals to get the additional supports they may need to support long term sobriety. This includes connecting people with community resources and help with understanding and navigating their health benefits. For current and former military members, their specially trained mental health professionals provide support and treatment that acknowledges the unique needs of veterans.

They accept most commercial insurance plans and accept Medicaid and Medicare. For individuals who cannot pay or are uninsured, they offer reduced fees for those who qualify.

My brother has been in the agency's care for more than five years, yet they are now asking for his Social Security card, birth certificate, and ID documents that were provided during the on boarding process and should have been securely kept in his file. This situation goes beyond a simple administrative error; it highlights a serious lack of attention. The absence of these important documents after all this time raises significant concerns about the company s record-keeping methods. My experiences with this agency have been consistently disappointing, characterized by disorganization, poor communication, and now, the mishandling of sensitive personal information. CN Guidance and Counseling Services is mismanaged and indifferent to the needs of its clients. This agency is terrible, and I would never recommend it to anyone. A complete overhaul of this agency is necessary!

Accepted Insurance

Central Nassau Guidance and Counseling Services, Inc. works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients in rehab aftercare programs receive a customized portfolio of services designed to promote their sustained sobriety. These clients have completed high-level treatment, are typically exiting detox and/or intensive inpatient care and are reintegrating into their home, workplace, and community. Rehab aftercare services address addiction disease as a chronic condition requiring continuing care. Clients typically work with case managers and recovery teams to access necessary resources, such as peer coaching and 12 step program induction support.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
The ultimate goal of a sober living home in New York is to provide structure and support for those who want to maintain sobriety. Often, sober living homes are a transitional space for those moving from residential treatment to mainstream life. Residents typically stay at least 90 days, with most living in the halfway house for more than six months.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in New York occurs when family members and friends lovingly confront someone with a substance use disorder. The goal of this confrontation is to motivate the person to seek treatment. Loved ones point out how the person's destructive behavior is affecting them in hopes that they will agree to get help. Most inpatient rehab facilities offer intervention services that can help families walk through this process step by step.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Medical detox involves weaning your body off of addictive substances in a medically supervised environment. If you've become dependent on alcohol and/or drugs, quitting on your own can be uncomfortable and even dangerous. In medically assisted detox, a team of licensed medical professionals will help manage potential withdrawal symptoms, ensuring that you're as safe and comfortable as possible. This process typically takes about 5-7 days, although the length will depend on your individual needs.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Introduced in 1983, motivational interviewing is a method to help clients commit to change. It's based on the philosophy that change is hard, and clients must explore their own options and come to their own conclusions rather than receive warnings or advice from the therapist.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

As you recover from addiction, eating the right foods will help you heal and build your health for long term sobriety. Nutrition therapy teaches you about the nutrition your body needs and how to eat the right foods to support your recovery.

Nicotine is an addictive substance found in cigarettes. When you stop smoking, your body experiences withdrawal from this substance. Nicotine replacement therapy lets you slowly reduce your nicotine intake so you experience minimal withdrawal symptoms. Eventually you'll be down to zero.

They are trying to fraudulently bill me for services that were NOT provided. I go in looking for help, and I was told to come back the next day for intake. I come back the next day for my intake. I am told they don’t do sessions longer than 30 minutes, plus they don’t have anyone available and there is no estimated wait time as to when someone’s schedule might open up. Long story short, they can’t help me because there’s no staff available. Not a problem. The problem starts when they start trying to bill me over $1000 for 3 separate services. After reading other reviews, it’s clear the billing department either has no idea what they’re doing OR they are fraudulently billing individuals and/or their insurance companies. I highly advise to research the dozens of quality facilities on Long Island before coming here.

If I could give less than one star I would. Anu was actually really helpful to me and so was some of the staff. My therapist is excellent about hearing my concerns and being available for me even outside of appointments. Lauren, the assistant director, was incredibly rude and not willing to work with me at all about receiving my medication. They make you do a physical health evaluation before you can be seen and despite the promise that it would be fast I could not get in until two weeks after my medication ran out (I was booked an appointment three weeks out). Since I had no health screening on file the psychiatrists refused to see me for an intake. Lauren refused to make any exceptions despite me withdrawing from my medication. I was so ill that I was vomiting multiple times within the facility. I tried to ask about tele-health options and she flat out refused and then scheduled me out even later for my appointment with a psychiatrist. I was in the hospital due to medical reasons and she refused to schedule me for another date because I was in the hospital. If the assistant director doesn’t care about the wellbeing of those in her facility she should be reprimanded and replaced. This is the main reason why I will be finding a new facility ASAP. I’ve only been going here for two and a half weeks and all I’ve been given are problems. I refuse to give this facility any more money due to Lauren’s attitude and absolute lack of compassion.

Live. Laugh. Love. No, not just that— love and light. Central Nassau has taught me these important lessons about life and there’s no turning back for me now. When you go to therapy, you live. When you see dogs in the waiting room and you start having flashbacks, laugh. Most of all, I’m so inspired by the fact that we the declared maladaptive members of society have a place to go. (In all seriousness my peer supporter is a badass and her support has been absolutely amazing. I really have no complaints other than aforementioned dogs in the building).

Although my daughter’s counselor Anu was AMAZINGG we have decided to end services due to the billing department being a mess! Received a bill nearing $1900 for unpaid copays dating back to 2022 so I called to question about it they said disregard it, they have a new system & things haven’t been updated. A few weeks later I receive another bill for $420 for co pays. I called about this one spoke with Amanda, was told she would look into it and call me back. After a week or 2 of not hearing back from Amanda I called & left a voice message however a Rose called me back. After some back and forth she said she would have Amanda look into it and call me back, that was 4/6/25, it is now 5/2/25 and I still have not heard back from Amanda or anyone else at billing regarding the account. I have received ridiculous call for vitals which I don’t understand if no medication is being prescribed but not to sort out this billing issue so that my child can resume care. I work in healthcare and to me, this place is a just a money grab. Go somewhere else. My daughter now has to start over somewhere else due to their lack of communication and concern for their patients.

went for about 2 years then my father passes away so i missed a few appts bc well alot was going on so they kicked me out. so now im stuck on medication they forced me to take that i can no longer get so yay me cant wait for those withdrawal symptoms then i got ignored till they made me so upset to the point i called every number they have listed. they truely do not care at all about anyone it is so sad especially they are supposed to help. they actually made my situation worse i have never had to be admitted to a hospital but they forced me to . i highly recommend never going here. if you need actual help and or counseling do not go here. they will severely ruin and make you and addict. i do not want to be on medications that i now need to find elsewhere that i never needed but was forced on it. very unempathetic to anything and their patients. Patient care is not on their list of things to do. not to mention my last interaction with them was a employee i saw out in public knowing how HIPPA works i kept quiet due to HIPPA and it being her job but she took it upon herself to say yes she knows me then lectured me on how she cant talk to me bc of HIPPA.. i work in the field and as a worker and patient i know HIPPA and i feel so uncomfortable now knowing she is out in public seeing patients saying hello to them. it is very unprofessional how they act and treat people who need to be here. its very sad and unprofessional. being in the field its even more sad how patient care is treated and how they don't care about patient confidentiality .
