About Destin Recovery Addiction Treatment Center

Destin Recovery Addiction Treatment Center is an alcohol and drug rehab center that uses evidence-based medicine and combines medical therapy and one-on-one counseling. Destin Recovery Addiction Treatment Center is located in Destin, Florida.

For alcohol and drug rehab in Florida, Destin Recovery offers real treatment to people with drug and alcohol addiction problems. They use the various transitional stages of recovery and move them toward being a self-managed individual in control of their own life. Their drug rehab center in Florida incorporates a variety of treatment programs. Ultimately the goal is to focus on learning or regaining life skills that enable long-term recovery and prevent relapse.

Addiction is a biological disease of the brain. There are specific and well documented chemical and physical changes in the brain that promote and sustain addiction. The physical, behavioral, and spiritual expression of these changes manifest as the disease state of addiction. Addiction is a disease of the brain and treatment must involve actions proven to alter the structure and function. “Powerlessness” is a need for relief, and biology decides what will provide that needed relief. This biology trumps willpower.

Short term and long term planning is needed to carry out actions that will change the brain and maintain those changes. These actions must also provide a spiritual path of awareness of the present moment. There are many excellent treatment centers for addiction. Unfortunately, studies have shown that only a small percentage provide what is considered to be research proven methods of treatment. The best methods to treat this chronic disease combine ongoing medical therapy, intensive counseling, mindfulness teaching, completion of the AA twelve steps, and ongoing assessment of rehab retreatment modalities. Cookie-cutter band-aids do not work. Family education and very specific long-term plans for the patient are imperative for recovery.

Destin Recovery believes if you have a disease you should see a doctor. Dr. Reeves is an intricate part of Destin Recovery’s treatment planning and conducts multiple groups and individual sessions with all patients. He and his staff are committed to overhauling the current intervention and treatment approaches to match what medical evidence tells about this disease.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This was quite possibly the best decision I ever made to go to Bayshore. It changed my life! Where do I start, oh yes the food. Chef Mark is extremely talented. I ate better there for 30 days than I have my 30+ years of existence. It was like eating at a 5 star restaurant 3 times a day. The entire staff was absolutely incredible as well, from the co-owner Judy for making my initial call warm and inviting, to other co-owner Megan for working so hard with my insurance company to get it covered, for providing us with a safe and peaceful retreat, and for going above and beyond to accommodate our needs during our stay. All of the employees were kind, accommodating and were very knowledgeable about the process and how to teach the things I needed to be successful. Kevin and Reina were especially awesome. You could tell they cared about their jobs and cared about us clients. Reina is naturally a caring and compassionate person. She went above and beyond to ensure our stay was productive and a learning experience. Kevin was Mr. Fun, he showed us some incredible experiences and activities. He also went above and beyond to ensure I got what I needed from the stay. The counselor Stephanie was amazing as well. She really took time to dive deep in to the issues and gave amazing solutions and a set of goals to follow for success. She wasn’t judgmental at all, was very encouraging, is extremely knowledgeable about her profession and could also tell that she cared about my success in the program. The facility is unbelievable as well. It’s waterfront in beautiful Destin. The beds were comfortable, kitchen was a chef’s dream, the pool was extremely refreshing and their gym is what really motivated me to stay on course and get my life together as well. They have a dock that you can go down and fish from, I caught several fish while there. The other clients and employees became almost like a second family to me and it was truly a one-of-a-kind experience to show me how to thrive in sobriety. It doesn’t stop when you leave either. They call and check on you often and the co-owner Megan continued to fight with my insurance until the very end, well after my stay, to ensure they covered what they needed to cover for my stay. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get their lives back!

Every addict has their own path to and through recovery. Treatment doesn’t always provide a fix-all for every person. My personal journey led me to Bayshore three times (and it wasn’t my first trip to treatment). This is hands-down the most comprehensive, immersive and compassionate program for those who struggle with drugs and alcohol. The house is beautifully appointed, the chef is absolutely amazing, and the peace and motivation I felt while in attendance is the most gracious I’ve experienced. I still communicate regularly with fellow clients and staff. I am now 19 months sober (after several near-death hospitalizations) and have the tools I learned at Bayshore to thank for my sobriety! Love love love these people and what they do!!

Bayshore Retreat is an exceptional facility! The owner and staff go above and beyond for everyone that walks through the front door. This facility sets itself apart on almost every level. The maximum number of patients is 6, allowing for more one on one time and an experience tailored specifically to each individual. Alcoholism and addiction are cunning, baffling, and powerful diseases. The staff members here know that and have years of experience helping people deal with their afflictions. Whether you are deep in your addiction, still allowing drugs and alcohol to dictate your life (1⭐️Girl), or if you have finally had enough and are ready for a better way to live - Megan and her team are here to help no matter what stage you are at!❤️❤️ The Food: Chef Mark and Chef Kevin I can’t say enough about the chefs here!! 5 stars would be an understatement! Accommodating: Just because we are seeking sobriety does not mean that the world stops turning. I was able to use my phone and my laptop to continue working while at this facility. Spoiled Rotten: The body is just as important as the mind and the spirit. Weekly sauna, weekly massage, weekly yoga, and daily gym. Where else do you get treatment like that!!??

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you Thomas... so many people don't know what to expect when they go to rehab. Our goal is to make it a pleasant healing environment and provide everything possible to help with the physical healing as well as the underlying reasons with quality counseling. Thank you for choosing Bayshore Retreat. Judy
