About the Facility

Located in Sacramento, California, Essential Behavioral Health provides alcohol and drug rehab services, along with mental health treatment, to men and women suffering from behavioral health concerns. Their services are offered through their intensive outpatient treatment program.

Essential Behavioral Health- Sacramento offers comprehensive behavioral health care. Services include:

The intensive outpatient program involves treating those with mental health conditions, addiction, and trauma. Many clients receive treatment for two or more conditions at a time, which is known as dual diagnosis. The treatment process begins with a medical evaluation that includes a toxicology test to help identify the level of care needed. If clients need a referral to detox or inpatient, that can be provided. While participating in intensive outpatient treatment, clients engage in individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy when needed, and psycho-educational classes that cover a wide variety of topics. Yoga and meditation are offered to assist individuals who enjoy holistic therapies. Clients also focus extensively on coping skills and relapse prevention strategies.

These programs are usually offered on an inpatient or outpatient basis. You can usually expect a mental health assessment and personalized treatment plan, evidence-based therapies, like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), experiential therapies like equine therapy, skills groups, and counseling to simultaneously address both mental health and substance abuse and drastically increase your chances of long-term sobriety.

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) support clients’ sustained sobriety as they exit detox or step down from inpatient programs. They are also designed for clients who are at an elevated risk of relapse. Intensive outpatient treatment typically requires clients to engage in a minimum of nine hours of therapy per week, but clients may receive up to 20 therapeutic hours weekly. IOP treatment modalities often combine psychotherapy, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

house-medical iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
