About Forsyth Medical Center Behavioral Health

Their programs include an intensive outpatient program. This course is three weeks long with 12 sessions. You’ll learn to manage anxiety, stress and grief. Once you complete the program you’ll have access to their weekly continuing care sessions. These provide support for long term recovery.

If you choose their inpatient treatment program you’ll start with some intake assessments. Once admitted you’ll receive individualized care. This may involve medication prescribed by a clinician. Individual therapy with a substance abuse counselor is also usually recommended.

My mother was seen in this hospital in October. We had several complaints with the care she received which we expressed to Patient Partnership via phone call and email. I have never received any acknowledgement that the email was received or read, which contained the bulk of our complaints. We did, however, receive a letter in the mail stating that the hospital had investigated the case and found that all proper procedures had been followed. I wonder if this determination was based off the phone calls or the email because I find it hard to believe that this hospital can say that they followed all proper procedures considering the information that was included in the email. Do complaints of chest tightness and feelings of a weight sitting on your chest not indicate some type of follow up? Not even an EKG? Is it normal that after you report those symptoms that you never even see the primary nurse again? Is it normal for a person to have a respiratory rate in the 30s? How long can someone be expected to sustain a respiratory rate that high? Is it unreasonable to request pulmonary function tests, an ABG, or to see a Pulmonologist in the hospital considering those symptoms? Is it normal for a patient to be unable to walk 15 feet without having to stop and lean against a wall to catch her breath? Is it normal that a patient cannot even complete basic ADLs without having to stop to take a break? Despite witnessing the patient in distress, the determination was made to discharge her because she looked well enough on paper. Is it normal for a hospital as large as this one that Pulmonologists cannot perform anything other than bronchs and lavages? Because we were told that this hospital couldn't perform the basic PFTs needed because the Pulmonologists only "wash mucus out of people's lungs." Is it normal to discharge people without any discharge vital signs? How do you prove they are stable enough for discharge? Is it normal to refuse any inpatient consults that were specifically asked for when one doctor recognizes there is a problem but admits he doesn't know what the problem is? How many doctors does this hospital employ? Is it too much to ask for a second opinion? Is it normal to completely dismiss very blatant symptoms as "unimportant" because the doctor doesn't see how they relate to the patient's current condition? Because it turns out those symptoms were an important part of her diagnosis because she has since been diagnosed with a life altering autoimmune disease. And despite having a fantastic primary care team, she is still waiting at home to see a specialist we specifically asked to see while she was at this hospital. She is now confined to a chair with oxygen because this hospital refused to take her complaints seriously. Her suffering has been prolonged as we wait for more answers, treatment, and specialists she should have already received and seen in the hospital. And the hospital's response is "we didn't do anything wrong." Right. Our healthcare system is failing us all, and we should all be concerned. If you have a loved one in this hospital, or any hospital, be vigilant and advocate for your loved one. Hospitals will never admit fault because their primary interest is always protecting the hospital, never the patient.

If I could give this pathetic excuse for a hospital zero stars I would, got doctors asking me...a practitioner what to do for my dieing mother, ever changing meds that dont work from shift to shift because theres so many different doctors on the upstairs floors. No one paying attention to blood work, I really feel for anyone that has no medical knowledge that get admitted here. Catty lazy nurses, incompetent uncaring physicians...and the absolute worst part is that the rooms for these poor folks are absolutely filthy. Look at this. This is in a patients room thats being billed thousands upon thousands a day and they cant even keep the floors clean. The hallways are also just as disgusting. Sticky and brown, covered in filth and hair. Who is funding this place? YOUR insurance dollars. To turn around and be subjected to filthy accomoidations, and negligent care from staff from the physicians to the charge nurses. The day to day nurses have absolutely NO common sense. Cleaning nephrostomy tubes with waterless shampoo!!! Are you kidding me???!!!! SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN.

Other Forms of Payment

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.
