About Frontier Health – Bristol Regional Counseling Center

Frontier Health – Bristol Regional Counseling Center is located in Bristol, Tennessee, and provides mental health care, substance abuse treatment, and counseling services to young adults, men, women, and adolescents who are struggling with a dual diagnosis or addiction disorder. This CARF-accredited facility provides outpatient care, counseling, and aftercare support.

Mental health struggles and drug or substance addictions carry certain stigmas that make it difficult for struggling individuals to get the help they need. Frontier Health aims to bridge that gap through a crisis hotline that allows individuals to call in and speak with a mental health professional in real time. No matter an individual’s age, or struggles, this facility will connect them to critical resources that can help kick-start recovery.

As a provider of outpatient care, clients will have access to treatment options which include but are not limited to individual, group, or family therapy; cognitive behavioral therapy, 12-step programs, and specialized trauma therapy.

For individuals who need more robust support, intensive outpatient programs can help struggling individuals receive the care they need to build strong, healthy habits that will carry them through treatment for lasting sobriety.

Cortnee is a great therapist. She listens, she senses how you're feeling and can adjust on the fly, she knows when to relate and gently challenge you to make a change. She makes a difference.

My husband was court ordered to go to counseling over a bipolar attack. We chose this place. They seemed professional, and like good folks. Until my adolescent husband decided he wanted to give their work program a try. Before this he could hold down a job, had no black or red marks on his record. In fact the person told him to get rid of me and actually accused him of things he didn't do, and discriminated against both us over our religion. If that wasn't the worst of it, one of the ones we trusted flat out lied to me and sent me to see some one they claimed left Frontier Health but was good. For over 2 years I have been lied to. Yet they want their clients to be honest to them. Not to say this lady I saw wasn't truly remarkable but honestly when it came out she still worked for Frontier Health, I decided they weren't gonna ruin my life anymore, and they have seriously destroyed my once sweet husband. Can't trust them! If you want someone's life ruint and destroy them... this is the right place to take them. If you care about yourself or others keep them and yourself away.Felicia is seriously a good person, and she does care. Not so sure any of the rest do. It's basically just a job to them.So so so sad the government even funds places that mentally ill go to for help just to be judged , hurt, abused and discriminated against.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically have abstained from drugs or alcohol for a period of weeks or months and have completed high-level (often inpatient) treatment. Drug rehab aftercare is designed to support clients in maintaining their sobriety as they re-engage with their ordinary lives at home, in the workplace, and in the community. Services are highly individualized and evolve with clients' changing needs, but generally include peer coaching and relapse prevention.
12-step icon12-Step
When enrolld in an addiction recovery program that's based on the 12 step model, clients are able to cultivate recovery-focused life skills emphasizing spiritual, mental, and emotional healing. Participants receive intensive peer support in 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, open to the public, and available day and night in most communities. Self-selected sponsors guide sponsees through the recovery journey, cultivating self-awareness, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability. Though these programs are rooted in spiritual principles, participants aren't required to be religiously affiliated.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
The goal of a drug intervention in Tennessee is to encourage a person with a substance use disorder to enter treatment. The process also educates family members about addiction, enabling behaviors, and treatment options. The involvement of intervention services can help with this education and provide guidance for the intervention itself and follow-up care. The professional interventionist will work with the entire family to encourage the best outcomes possible from the intervention.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
To keep you safe and comfortable during the detoxification process, a medically assisted detox provides you with a team of medical professionals who can provide the necessary medications to treat any potential withdrawal symptoms. Suddenly stopping chronic abuse of substances like alcohol, benzodiazepines, or opioids can have uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When your day-to-day life is taken over by drug use, this is known as substance use disorder. If you abruptly stop using your drug of choice, you experience withdrawal symptoms. To overcome this cycle, professional drug rehab in Tennessee is usually needed.

Every individual who enters treatment receives an evaluation for both substance abuse and a co-occurring mental illness. Individuals who have both conditions, receive specialized goals that deal with and focus on putting both diagnosis into a recovery mode during treatment.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Typical cognitive behavioral therapy in Tennessee involves recognizing negative thinking and learning techniques to change that thinking and create new, positive behaviors. Strategies may include SMART goals, journaling, and situation exposure.

Counseling in Tennessee that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach can last from six to 12 months. During that time, you'll develop skills in the areas of distress tolerance, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

If you participate in motivational interviewing in Tennessee, your therapist will focus on four key strategies: open questions, affirmation, reflections, and summarizing. Rather than confront or warn you to change, the clinician will allow you to explore your own motivations and decide what changes you may need to make in your life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

To quit smoking, you can use nicotine replacement therapy and gradually reduce the amount of nicotine you consume. This allows your brain and body to adjust so you can reach your goal of breaking free from cigarettes in just a few weeks.

Some of the staff shouldn't work here, and they are mean and rude. The other part is great! Never leave! Thanks for the help!

Deeply Disappointed – This Place Made Things Worse I came to this facility seeking support for my mental health challenges—depression, anxiety, and the daily struggle just to get by. What I found instead was a place that felt cold, impersonal, and dismissive. This in no way helped my mental health. From the front desk to the mental health professionals, I was consistently met with they were ALL curt, unkind, and unhelpful . I felt like a number, a chart—not a human being dealing with real pain. In a mental health setting, basic kindness and empathy shouldn’t be optional—they should be fundamental. The environment itself is also uncomfortable. Most offices don’t have windows, and the space feels claustrophobic and institutional. It made me feel more trapped than supported. Case management, which was described to me as a supportive, personalized service, was anything but. I was handed a worksheet to track hygiene and sent on my way until the next month. That’s not support—that’s a checklist. Mental health is complex, and a one-size-fits-all approach simply doesn’t work. This place didn’t help me—it made things harder. If you’re looking for compassion, understanding, and real support, I urge you to look elsewhere. You deserve care that sees you as a whole person—not just an appointment slot.

After reading their reviews & rating on Google I was very pessimistic about being treated here and nearly cancelled my initial appointment several times but I am so glad I didn't make that mistake. If I had I'd never met my therapist Brad whom I have to thank because he has without a doubt helped me to improve my mental well being in the short 2 months I've been a patient of his and in doing his job so well and/or simply being such an incredible human being I've also made several improvements in other aspects of my life. He has taken something that I severally dreaded and turned it into something I look forward to each visit.

I didn't feel heard. I actually felt judged by the provider. She was rude and I instead of smiling at my kids she gave me an attitude that her office was too small and told the kids to asks permission before touching the games in her room. I'm disappointed with the service provided.

Just looking for a place to go for help in many areas of my life and health, physically and mentally. I went to Frontier at a bad time in my life so I looked to see if things were any better than they were but it doesn't seem to be so it's a waste of time a 2.6 rating. I think that's bad when they are the only counciling center in Bristol that has been a service for everyone come on can't Bristol can help people with a great team. It's sad to have to travel for a good Doctor or help with mental health issues.
