About Habilitative Systems

Habilitative Systems, Inc. (HSI) in Chicago, Illinois, was formed and incorporated to be the first African American agency to operate a licensed boys group home. Today they are a human service agency helping the homeless, the aged, the disabled, and individuals who are battling addiction.

HSI is CARF accredited and NHSC approved. They accept most major insurance coverages. No one is turned away due to their inability to pay. A discounted/sliding fee scale is available based on family size and income.

Administrative Location Processes Referrals and Intakes

The facility on South Kilpatrick Avenue is the administrative location. Staff and programs originate in this building but sometimes referrals and new patient intakes are processed here. The admissions staff can choose which of the many other facilities would meet your needs.

Westside Community Triage and Wellness Center on West Madison Street is a nearby clinic that provides screenings and assessments. The clinic can make referrals, provide intensive case management services, prescribe psychotropic medications, and stage a crisis intervention.

Urban Behavioral Health Services Institute on South Western Avenue is a clinic that provides individual, group, and family counseling. You will first receive a psychiatric evaluation and be assigned to a case manager who will oversee your treatment and wellbeing. The clinic also offers medication management and crisis interventions.

HSI may send clients to either of these two locations above for more support.

Residential Referrals for more Intensive Treatment with HSI

The Tabitha House on North Pine is a residential facility for chemically dependent women in recovery. The clients attend individual and group therapies. Emergency Housing on North Massasoit is supervised residential for clients in crisis who suffer psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders.

The Clara Hope House on North Drake is residential housing and responsive services for homeless mentally ill clients with or without co-occurring substance use disorder. Staff will work with each client to achieve self efficiency.

I have a 35yrs son with autism I allowed my son to attend this rehabilitation work system a.k.a hsi program at 415 s. Kilpatrick trusting it was safe for the disabled so he can have something to do everyday, he really loved it but 6 years ago I had to take him out because he started having seizures really bad , but I just found three weeks ago by my son that he was being sexual assaulted by another client in the facility not one time but he showed me two different acts that the other client had performed on him yes he informed the overseer of the act that the client had done to him they had a meeting about it .but I was never informed about any of this until like said three weeks ago when son came to me asking guy touch guy I went to the facility to confront them and mad a police report.I told the if this young man doing this to my son apparentlysomeone's done it to him. and he's doing it or going to do it to someone else.i also informed them that they let my son and me down because they are to protect my son and the other clients as if I would and to inform me of any and everything that goes on with son and they didn't.

The staff here have little to no professionalism whatsoever. Its every consumer for themselves this is an amazing place to change your life but don't rely on the staff to accomplish your goals for stability.

Accepted Insurance

Habilitative Systems works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Michael Broadster Empowerment House Program (AOD Level III.I) is a halfway house for men who are chemically dependent and are in the recovery process. Men in this 120 day residential program receive individual and group counseling and intensive case management services to develop and implement strategies to meet the objectives of independent and drug-free living. More permanent housing and employment are primary focuses while in the program.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

In 1990 I enter the doors of HSI very much confused. One child who long for the service with another one on the way. After attending THE PROGRAM AND FOLLOWING THE PLANS. NOT ONLY DID MY CHILDREN benefit from the program so did I. If you are serious and what the help that HSI provide I recommend you take it. I did and I owe my life to them.😍😍😍
