Our Rehab Score is designed to make it easier for you to find the best treatment centers. We combine overall ratings with recent feedback to create a score that reflects a center's quality right now.
7.48 / 10 | Existential Counselor Society is a person focused recovery program with three locations throughout the Joliet, Illinois area, including this one on Manhattan Rd. This is a recovery program that serves men who are experiencing behavioral health struggles including substance use struggles which have prevented them from leading a healthy and fulfillin | Treatments Programs Payment Options | Finding this treatment center was the moment everything changed for me. Before I walked through their doors, I felt completely lost, consumed by my addiction, and convinced that a healthy, happy life was out of reach. This center didn't just help me get sober and off of hard drugs; they gave me the tools, support, and hope I needed to rebuild my entire life from the ground up.
What sets this place apart is the incredible human connection. The staff, counselors, and medical team treat you with unwavering respect, dignity, and empathy from day one. In my darkest moments, when I couldn't see a way forward, they held the belief in my recovery until I was strong enough to hold it for myself. Their personalized, compassionate approach made me feel safe, heard, and truly understood rather than just another case file.
I am writing this with a profound sense of peace and a clear mind that I haven't experienced in years. Saying "thank you" feels far too small for what they have done for me—they truly saved my life, and I will be forever grateful for this second chance. If you or someone you love is struggling, please know that healing is possible, and this is the place to find it.
With that being said, It's unsettling to read some of these negative reviews knowing that they are the farthest thing from the truth. Unfortunately it's all too common a trait for someone like myself - to make everything else the problem except me. It's sad to know that these people leaving bad reviews didn't give themselves a chance by accepting what is so simply laid out in front of you the moment you walk through the doors of ECS ~ A WAY OUT! A better life. Better relationships. A comfort with myself that I didn't know was possible being sober/drug free. A desire to participate in society as a functioning human being! These were all things that did not exist less than a year ago but do now. But if I didn't make the decision that I wanted things to change the moment I walked in the door, then I'm almost certain that I would not be here today. ECS never lied to me or sugarcoated my problems. They never mistreated me. They simply expected me to respect my peers and the staff just as they did to me the moment I walked through the door. And I thank God I did! Some of us just simply aren't ready. And when that's the case we find them unable to accept accountability and work hard to change. I did find it hilarious how one of the "negative" reviews unintentionally said something positive by saying "these reviews are by people who work here" By saying that he admitted just one more way that Dr. Sharma helps us out! (I have never worked at ECS but I read through them all. And out of the 100 plus reviews only a handful are from employees but their voice counts just as much, if not more). But it is very cool that some people go through ECS and then are trusted enough to be employed by the very people who know their darkest days. Kudos ECS!

Where to start with ECS. Well at the lowest point in my 42yrs of existence on this Earth. I found myself at Chicago Behavioral Hospital. And after being dazed and confused for the first four days in detox - I came to the realization that I was broken mentally, physically and spiritually. I was offered help and got connected with what I now know - is one of the best things that's happened to me. They connected me with Existential Counselors Society (ECS). I've never been to a treatment center in my life as a client. In the past as a member of A.A. I brought meetings to clients at other treatment centers. But this place is different it's truly special; it has opened up my mind to another approach on how to deal with my alcoholism. They speak my "language" what comes from the heart reaches the heart and I finally picked up that last missing piece of the puzzle to understand and deal with my alcoholism. From Doc, Justin, Brian, staff and all the counselors - especially the counselor that was assigned to me are all phenomenal. I believe God deliberately placed them in my path so I can truly come to grips with reality and gave me information so I can make good and informed decisions - direct them towards positive actions in my life. When you're ready to stop and stay stopped this is your place to go. (Be a Nike commercial and "Just Do It.")

Paramo is a great person and educator! His professional evaluation of me proved that I didn't have addiction issues, but I am thankful that I was still required to take the classes. I didn't expect to learn as much as I did about alcohol and how easy it is to fall into a pattern of drinking that can lead to addiction. That knowledge is important and has made me more aware of unhealthy patterns. Also, he reminded us that if you plan to drink DO NOT drive. Have a designated driver. Also have the Lyft and Uber App installed on your phone ready to use, just in case your DD doesn't follow through with their sobriety. Thank you Paramo!

THIS should be YOUR doctor. I have always had a hard time trusting people, especially doctors. When i met Singla a couple years ago, i knew I found the right doctor. There was immediate trust and a relationship formed. He CARES about you AND how your issues impact your family. He asks the standard doctor questions but follows up with questions that involve your family. He makes sure he knows you inside and out. There is no such thing as cutting corners with Dr. Singla. He is the most compassionate, trustworthy, and knowledgeable GP i have ever been to. With all my medical history, including Ulcerative Colitis, he makes sure the treatment he is providing will be beneficial to all my issues, not just the reason i had to see him that day. He even remembers my kids names, pets names, and so on. I consider him my friend and doctor. The extra time spent in office is so he can know YOU. You are not a "number" or easy insurance claim for his office. He is your doctor that turns into your friend. I just got out of the hospital 36 hours ago. He, as a GP, treated me better than my GI doctor did, and that is why i was admitted to the hopspital in the first place, due to GI issues. If it was not for Dr. Singla, i am sure i would have needed surgery to stop my symptoms. He cared more about me vs my Specialist GI doctor. My wife loves him!!! She also has never even met him! That is huge in my opinion. Must see him! Must be your doctor!

I owe them such a debt of GRATITUDE. I am a middle-aged woman with kids who was struggling with drinking - life was just sad for me due to some pretty terrible trauma-I knew I needed to make a change and I came to Banyan. I was scared & ashamed. They treated me with such kindness. The program was well structured & professional. The financial obligation was manageable. Everyone there continues to check on my progress. I have completely been sober since I left and have a completely new life - A+ Banyan. I continue to have great friendships from my time there. Here is one thing i say to people who ask me about getting sober. I have not met one person -not one single person -who regrets getting sober. There are millions of people- hundreds of millions of people - right now regretting drinking, why not make the change now? people get sober for a lot of different reasons.
